This is the second installation I have had by Smiths, this time was for facials, soffits and guttering also patio door and rear garage door. I was pleased with the fact that they cleared up everything each day. The work was carried out in an efficient manner, they were friendly and polite and I cannot fault them in anyway and would certainly recommend them.
Have had a horrible experience which still continues.. First had the salesman From smiths round in April 2017.. They cocked up the planning permission so instead of a 10 week process it ended up being an 18 week process. They did however offer a 500 pound discount at this point (which they later retracted) Once mobilized they done a good job on building the conservatory, I have no complaints about the actual build. But in doing this they removed to much cladding on the back of the house. From October 2017 - April 2018 i constantly rang them and emailed them asking for them to complete the works (reinstate the cladding air vents). Then with constant warning from my emails i found another contractor to complete the works. Now since June 2018 they have been chasing me for the final 10% payment with a i don't care you had to fix it yourself attitude.. I sent the invoice from the contractor who completed the works to Smiths (as requested), with also reminding them about the 500 pound good will gesture which left around 300 pound to pay! which i am still reluctant to pay this because of the way i have been treated, but I still offered to do so! They originally accepted the contractor invoice but rejected any conversation about the 500 pound good will gesture.. As soon as i questioned it further they are now threatening me with legal proceedings and are not accepting the contractor invoice anymore?!?.. Bottom line is, any decent company would have shown compassion and consideration of what has happened, and realized they are at fault and maybe even considered waving the last 10% (1950 Pound). But not Smiths, somehow they are acting like they are the victim! Also to add, i'm not going to name names, but some of the senior management at Smiths has no respect when talking to my Wife, he spoke to her like she was a child and not a customer.
We had all the windows in our house replaced by Smiths. They provided a competitive quote, turned up on time, cleaned up, and tested all windows. A year or so later we had a slight problem with one window and they return to fix it under warranty. Very happy with their product and service. Recommended.
Very good service. The installers were courteous, very good and tidy.
The product quality is good, the installation went very well. The problems were caused by the initial salesman, who I understand has now left the company, not doing a very good job. Very pleased now job is completed
From start to finish the company were professional throughout. Had a conservatory built very pleased with the building, adds another room to our house. Thank you for your great work.
I thought the sales process was good. The salesman (Stuart) was down to earth & didn’t try to force a sale. Apart from a delay in fitting the door the whole process was painless and I’d definitely use Smiths again.
Looks great. Excellent fitters, efficient and clean workers. Units were Georgian style, which all matched up and inline. We had one small problem which was resolved straight away with no fuss. Windows have been in place now for over 2 months, making it warmer and quieter indoors.
Filters were great and clean workers. Disappointed one was considerably smaller than the original and had to be packed quite a bit. Very pleased with internal blinds. Was a bit disappointed that what we had asked for had been discussed with the fitters and not our selves in regarding style of two windows, and told on the day of fitting we could not have what we asked for because it was too large. Fitters very pleasant and polite.
Fantastic professional company. Would highly recommend.
wos ok but make Clear the conctract befoure you Sand monay on the end the ask me more monay for 1 single plastic decoration of the window. in the start I wos clear all the wood out but the dident the left 1 decoration out there but is ok 1 day all done is look ok from inside but out is still old wood protection
After having a ‘cowboy’ double glazing job done initially, this time around I was looking for value. After interviewing about 3 difference companies, I settled for Smiths. The surveyor was on time, paperwork on time, installers on time, job done on time. They cleared and cleaned up after themselves. My son opened the new door and said, ‘Dad, this is brilliant, this door is easier to open.’ It was real value for money. Come highly recommended.
Excellent service all parts of the workmanship excellent could not fault the way they went about their work always polite and friendly
I booked our windows and doors before reading the reviews on the web site. I’ll be honest I was dreading it, I was thinking what have I done. And I must say how wrong I was, the fitters were very clean and professional, and the office staff surprisingly polite. I would use smiths again 100% and highly recommend them. Don’t always go by the bad reviews, I’m glad I didn’t.
Fitted Front and Back doors with Slate Grey colours. very good looking doors and it looks exactly as it was agreed originally. The fitters are helpful and made sure that the doors supplied are according measurements. Definitely will use the service in the future for windows.
Very happy with the service i got from Smith's Glass had double glassed windows installed, The installer was very good and cleaned up everything when finished, Widows look great and delivered a installed withing a month of ordering. This is the second time i have used Smith's Glass for a porch now the windows would recommend this company. paul fisher
Had patio and back door fitted very impressed with the man's work. He was on time and got on with his work stratight away and when Finnished cleaned up after him self then he explained how the locks worked. I would use smiths again.
I have experienced Smiths Glass over the past 18 years and unfortunately have seen a steady decline in the level of service they provide. To the point now where their after sales service is totally unacceptable and prospective customers need to be aware. Other reviewers have summed it up well and mirror my experiences. I hope to keep this review balanced and give credit where it is due; The quality of the products is good and depending on the fitting team that arrives to complete the work you should get a reasonable job. All the teams I have dealt with have needed some 'prompting' to address the small details. They are pressured to complete in a set time frame and therefore cut corners. This however results in needing to return to fix issues. Smiths should learn and give their teams the time required to do the job properly and it should not be down to the customer to 'project manage' them. They have always been competitive on price - you should be prepared to negotiate and you will get a good price I had a conservatory fitted 14 years ago and had minimal problems, at that time the minor snags were addressed quickly and efficiently I had front windows and front door fitted 5 years ago and needed follow up visits to resolve some issues. The lead time to get a visit was a few weeks each time, but they addressed most of the issues eventually. We still have a whistling when windy through one window that they cannot identify or fix... so I've had to live with it Now to my latest experience; I had rear windows and doors, Fascia, Soffit's and Guttering for the whole house and some Cladding fitted at the end of 2017. Again the job was completed well but the various teams needed monitoring and lots of things highlighted to be corrected during the work e.g. scratches of some glass units, chips in some frames, making good around frames etc. The snag list at the end was also large and Smiths pushed for their final payment assuring me everything would be fixed. Take my advice and withhold a sensible sum until snagging is complete. I did this and after two visits (arranged quickly due I'm certain due to the fact I withheld money) the issues were corrected. However, Smiths demanded the withheld amount immediately and I refused as it was getting dark and I was unable to fully inspect all the fixes. Smiths took payment from my card without my authority, or my final sign off that the work had been completed. They were then unable to explain how they had held my payment details 'securely' and treated me with total contempt when I challenged them, referring to the 'agreement' (which I've inspected and find no reference to them being able to store debit card payment details or take an unauthorised payment prior to the work being signed off) The final straw with Smiths 'after sales service' was two months ago when I called them to request a service call as we had some trim on cladding come loose, one window that needed adjustment as it would not close properly, one patio door that would not lock easily and one window with a whistling noise when windy (remember earlier in the review this same issue occurred on another window installed a number of years earlier!). I was told that I could not log a service call by phone, you now need to go onto a web page. This I did, and after 2-3 days, I received an email requesting photos of the issues! After some email exchanges I then got an appointment time...The first available appointment was 7 WEEKS away..(and took place today) a disappointing length of time to wait and no apology from Smiths as this is 'the norm' apparently. I requested an afternoon visit as cannot make mornings and this was noted. I received a call yesterday to tell me I would be the first visit of the day 08.00 am. When I restated the original request for an afternoon I was told 'it's the way it is unfortunately and the way the planning goes' The fitter arrived this morning, on time, but advised that he had been told that as I'd not provided photos of some of the issues he would only be able to address the windows and door!!.. no mention of this during the phone call yesterday! So another 7 Week wait then! Ending on a positive; the fitter today was excellent and addressed all the issues, he was methodical and took the necessary time required. Smiths need to keep people like him otherwise they will continue to lose loyal customers and lose new business due to poor reviews. Only use this company if you are prepared, and able, to check and double check the work, are savvy and withhold a percentage of final payment if you are not happy... and hope you never need any after sales service from Smiths..
BEWARE! BEWARE! BEWARE! Before using Smith glass Ltd based in Basildon Essex. I had 7 windows and 1door fitted by this company and have had trouble with the fitting of 3 of these windows and the door ( which never could be fixed dispite numerous attempts). I have found their customer service severely lacking and would not recommend this company ever. It should be rated MINUS five stars! I will be requiring new patio doors soon but this company will not be having my order. BEWARE before you use them.

Nov 09,2018My review will be helpful for you because this is about after sales service which is very important. We had our windows installed two years ago, the fitting staff was good but after sales service is very very poor. They do not answer calls and if they do they will make promises with you but never turn up. The insurance backed guarantee they talk about is rubbish. I don't think I would recommend anyone based on their after sales service. After this review they promised us to sort out the issues but to my disappointment yet again they lied and never heard anything from them. STAY AWAY, THEY ARE LIERS
