Sep 27,2024Emily is a very supportive tutor. My daughter feels great after her lessons and enjoys doing the work. She is gaining the skills and confidence she needs to grow. The lessons stay on point with no distractions with a full hour solidly devoted to the lesson. Additionally, the platform is easy and friendly for the children to use. All in all, I am very satisfied with the entire experience!

Sep 26,2024I want $499 credited to my card for tutoring not rendered. Claim charges with dates for summer semester : 9/2/24 499.00, 08/02/24 654.95, 7/2/24 857.66, 06/04/24. 876.38 05/02/24 876.38. Incompetence and member ship renewal aside refund me money for services not rendered. Varsity tutors has sub par tutors that could not help my son pass a class. We used them for 2 semesters for the same class and he could not pass. Their billing is not accurate and they continued to bill on my credit card saying with the type membership I had it automatically renews. Then after looking again they told me it was for services rendered. It looks like you get what you pay for. Varsity tutors is not as expensive as other tutoring places because they don’t guarantee results. That is another I was told guaranteeing results is not under the membership I had. Stay away from this company they are a total rip off,

Sep 26,2024My daughter was being taught by a good tutor, when she came to the end of the tutoring before her GCSE’s commenced we cancelled the contract but they continued to charge £419 per month for three months, you have two number to call both lead to voicemails and after leaving messages you do not get a reply, I contacted the via Facebook messenger and the replied with a message asking for details of who the client was, I replied and got a message back saying that I would be contacted in due course as yet nothing ! Maybe this will provoke a response !

My daughter loves every single session with her and she said that Berentha is the best teacher she’s ever had. Cannot thank her enough for all her contributions to my daughter’s progress.

Sep 25,2024Had some great tutors over past two years which helped my daughter gain confidence and successfully complete several AP courses as a sophomore and junior in high school. Disappointed with the business side of Varisty Tutors however and hence the three stars. Wasted at least 2000 dollars because credits did not roll over from one month to the next and because tutoring sessions were suddenly changed to 1.5 hours when you buy credits in increments of 2 hours. So, if you have four hours of credits a month and each session is 1.5 hours you are either shortchanged or pay more than expected each month. Also, a cumbersome process to cancel your subscription. Have to dig deep to figure out process to cancel and then there is a desperate and drawn out attempt to get you to change mind. Generally, left bad taste and won’t use again.

Sep 25,2024Arianne K was the tutor chosen to help my first grade grandson in phonics/reading.. She demonstrated the patience of a saint. I like her teaching style. The ability to have a one on one session early in the school year should be extremely important and valuable at such a young age so the child does not fall behind the speed of the classroom teacher and will advance nicely with the rest of his classmates. However there did seem to be an issue with the writing of notes on the screen by the tutor for Joseph to see.. I am hopeful this online system issue will be corrected by the time we have our next session.. Brian N

Sep 25,2024We used Varsity Tutors twice for SAT prep. Once for my son and two years later for my daughter. Generally, we are disappointed with this company. Specifically, the billing policy does not allow any flexibility. The membership starts immediately with a phone representative. It takes a few days to get matched with a tutor and then a few days more to complete the first session, if both you and the tutor's schedules line up quickly. The hours purchased must be used by the end of the contract month or they are lost. We had issues ranging from having trouble scheduling sessions to needing a completely new tutor for various reasons. All while the clock is ticking. When we finally had a good tutor match with manageable schedules, the sessions worked well. But the hassle was not worth it. In addition, when we tried to end the membership since the tests were going to be done, they persisted with hard sell tactics to get other Varsity Tutor products. This is just a company that is trying to maximize profits and doesn't really care about the student or the tutor. You're better off using some other tutor service. Update: While I remain dissatisfied with Varsity Tutor, I am grateful they called regarding my experience, apologized and provided a refund for my last payment. Kudos for taking ownership.

Sep 25,2024Completely disorganized. App does not translate correct information to reality. Twice inputted time needs for tutoring and when paired with tutor came back with wrong times that wouldn’t work, which delayed getting my son set up with tutoring. Also app didn’t translate time correctly - we inputted 1 hour and the tutor side it scheduled 1.5 hours. I receive constant phone calls from the organization to ensure I purchase more credits and get tutoring set up but when I try to speak to a supervisor about these issues, I am hold 45 minutes and never speak to anyone.

Sep 24,2024So far the tutors that my sons have had been great. That is why I gave it 4 stars. The only thing I’m not a big fan of is the time it takes to find an available tutor. My eldest son has been struggling with math (algebra) and has tests that count for 50% of his grade. The matching process takes a lot of valuable learning time

Sep 29,2024I was contacted by a representative after this review was made. They listened to how I felt and gave me a full refund because of my experience. The tutors are good at what they do. I hope they can fix the technical bugs and instead of a monthly subscription, to pay per session. Many people have sporadic lifestyles, including mine. If they can make a few changes to their product, I would love to use it to possibly study for MCATs. 10/22/2024 I feel scammed by this company. Not only is this subscription super expensive, but when the website crashed, I couldn't get my hour in with my tutor because it kicked me out only 2 minutes into the session. I only wanted 1 months worth of tutoring for one exam, and this company was aware of it, Their' program is set up to keep charging you monthly and if you unsubscribe, not only did I not get a refund for the sessions I didn't want/need, but they didn't refund me for the day the site kicked me out during my session. To top it off, they kept harassing me of how my sessions were going, after I unsubscribed and was in the system as unsubscribed. I explained politely during a phone call (while at school) that it was a distraction from my schoolwork and didn't want any more texts or calls, and I still received a text asking for my reviews of my sessions. 09/22/2024
