I engaged City Design & Build in March 2021 to install a small bathroom. In late August 2021 they still had not finished the bathroom. I was repeatedly asking them to do it throughout that time and they took payments which amounted to thousands to allegedly get to nearly the end of the second fix. On one hand they kept saying there is only an afternoons work left over or a day at max as most of it is done, but then they kept making excuses as to why they would not to finish it ranging from they should not finish the bathroom until its door is installed otherwise the workmen will start using it and my bathroom has very expensive fixtures so this wouldn’t be good, then they kept saying it needs to be done in a logical order which made no sense, they said the plumber has a plan to properly fit the WC etc when it looked bizarre to me and I should just trust them. Each time I kept saying it should not take this long, something seems wrong, please prioritise the bathroom over the other works which is what I originally got them to quote for. The bathroom fixtures had all arrived in April 2021 and then the tiles followed by early May 2021. The plumber opened everything up to check it and I also sent links to all the items very early on so they had all the information required to do the first fix correctly. They left my fixtures out in what was a site to test their position in the bathroom. I repeatedly asked the plumber what he needed to finish it off and he said he had everything and then he would say he needs something extra to make another excuse for its delay. What transpired is that now after multiple very well reviewed plumbers have come to see the project is that they are all saying that City Design did the first fix incorrectly and covered it all up with tiles and made it look like the bathroom was on its way to completion but that they were never going to finish the bathroom as they had messed it up entirely at the first fix so the excuses/delay were to cover up what they knew they had done and get paid for most of the other work in the flat such as plastering et. The shower fixtures which are all far too deep in the wall, the WC and cistern is not in the right position, the towel rail has not been done properly but was just tiled over. The sink is also leaking. City Design made me pay nearly £7000 for this and they had months to do it. I have to undo everything which now means paying huge amounts in addition to living out of my own property for nearly a year. I have to go right back to the first fix and re-purchase the tiles as they have used so many and I have to pay a new plumber for all of this work. They also gave me incorrect measurements for the shower. The director of the organization never visited the property and was extremely arrogant. He kept just demanding the money and told me it has been done properly. City Design also had the job of electrics. They charged me around £1300 to buy and install a consumer unit. They had a policy of not showing any invoice to show what they had paid for things. They also charged me for the first fix and alleged a certain number of points in the flat which now can’t be seen by any electrician. The left the electrics with wires exposed. Electricians now coming to see the work they did have said the consumer unit seems second hand and that they have not done a separate RCD for each circuit. This was supposed to be all brand new. They have also refused to provide the name and details of the electrician. The Regulator have said that is very worrying. When I was asking them for the electricians details and asking them to finish the work they said this is classified as harassment and my chasing the team re the works is making them uncomfortable. They also kept keys to my flat. They then also were required to fit doors. None of the doors even shut properly. The company are bullies, very poorly skilled tradesmen and demand payment without giving you a chance to inspect the work and they change the scope of the work based on what they think. It’s a highly dysfunctional organization with no loyalty. The builder on the premises was doing other work in my flat under his company name as he kept looking for something to do other than the bathroom which he knew he had ruined. In short. Everything they did was cosmetic; the tiles and the plastering and painting which would have to be re-done. This situation has caused huge levels of stress and inconvenience.

Our project involved internal garage conversion and change of flooring entire ground floor. Throughout the process, I found project manager Mudda to be professional, highly client-focused, polite, and always helpful. He kept me informed, discussed changes, and was reasonable with their quote and the variations. They undertook the work efficiently and managed through the challenges as they arose. Will definitely use them again.
