The Long Man Inn is a welcoming, independent Edwardian pub with four overnight guest rooms, in the heart of Wilmington, a handsome and historic single-street village nestled within the South Downs National Park. Just off the 100 mile-long South Downs Way National Trail we are perfectly situated for walkers (we are dog-friendly), cyclists, locals and visitors to rest up and enjoy first-class traditional food, local ales and attentive service in our cosy pub.

A quiet country pup, spotted it by chance while driving to Lewes, and booked in for a spot of lunch not really knowing what to expect. What we got blew us away, beautifully decorated inside, charming and friendly staff and the food was absolutely amazing. We would highly recommend dinning here, and would give more stars if we could. Absolutely fantastic

This rural pub has a menu to satisfy most customers using fresh local produce and serving it in an apertising way to your requirements. Nothing is too much trouble and with the staff being very interested in your selection this makes for a lovely meal, nicely cooked and presented so that you can enjoy their hospitality to the fullest.

My go to meal whenever I eat out is always lasagne. On my visit I had a vegatable one as this was the only one on the menu. The lasagne looked like yesterdays, It was dry and looked awful, with unmelted grated cheese on top. I ate just over half and the cheese was still in situ at the end of the meal because the meal was only just warm. The chips were delicious and the staff attentive. This was a family gathering to celebrate two birthdays (mine and one other) and Mothers Day. Totally disappointed. It wasn't their finest hour is all I could say!! Wish I had said something at the time but didn't because one of the birthdays was mine and I wasn't paying!

We had a great lunch and very friendly service. My chicken breast stuffed with lemon and thyme on a bed of pea and goats cheese risotto was very different and delicious. Thank you all

A shame, I was so looking forward to my first visit but I doubt I’d go again. A beautiful pub and you couldn’t fault its cleanliness. But, that’s the good part. We hadn’t booked, but we were given a table by the kitchen door. The menu wasn’t vast but enough to make a choice. My friend had sausages with mash and spring onions, it looked nice but small for a main meal. I had a burger, it looked nice but the chips had been cooked so many times they were hard and my burger was also over cooked. We were then ignored and had to get the waitresses attention although she seemed to think cleaning empty tables was more important than serving customers. The menus were returned to order a sweet. I think there was a choice of 5 dishes although 3 of which contained nuts. We declined as there wasn’t a suitable choice. Then there was a dog fight with the owners dogs followed by a screaming owner running through the pub with a black eye. It was a shame 😳 what could be so lovely, wasn’t.

What lovely food. All 5 of us thoroughly enjoyed our food. The duck special was great as was the pigs cheek and cheese soufle. The after eight dessert cheesecake is a winner. We will be back soon.

Sorry - never again. Fantastic refurb completed but that does not make up for average food and dreadful noisy atmosphere. Part of the latter may be due to the omission of any soft furnishings in the refurb - all hard surfaces, no carpet etc. Four of us were seated too near a table of shouty blokes (OK, not the pub's fault, and apparently local); and their racket added to recurrent cackling laughter from a person seated at the bar who, we deduced, was part of the management. Bar service was slowed by conversation between management and staff. Very shabby way to treat paying customers. Prices - on the high side of average. Food OK but nothing to write home about. Steak cooked as ordered but not too tender. Table service satisfactory, and absolutely superb beer - Long Blonde from the Long Man Brewery. Two stars then - one for the beer, one for excellent cleanliness. The refurb work must have cost a fortune; now let's invest in customer relations.

Lovely refurb. A warm and friendly welcome and a very dog friendly pub. staff were charming and have a brilliant sense of humour even in the heat. Nice selection of food, but maybe a couple of 'specials/ chefs dish of the day' might be a good idea? Busy but relaxed, will defiantly return. Well done for bring life back to a charming pub

Absolutely loved this new iteration of a wonderful local pub. Used to go to the Giants Rest many moons ago. Turned up unannounced with our two dogs for Friday lunch. No trouble and dog friendly. Shared 5 starters. Didn’t wait for food, service charming, our food was excellent, looked beautiful and was warm by which I mean it had been freshly prepared. Especially loved the old smokie and macaroni cheese fritters. Generous and great value. Thank you. We will definitely come again. Wish Lewes had such a good good food destination- step up Lewes.

New refurbished top to bottom, excellent fit out of rooms, comfy bed, and lovely free house inn and restaurant on ground floor and growing menu as you would expect with new start up. Great selection of ale and drinks. The only word of caution is that the original stairs are steep and no ground floor rooms.

We have now eaten here several times since it opened at the beginning of May.The food is exceptional without being pretentious.Good portions, reasonably priced & all home cooked. The Sunday roast is the best we have had anywhere as is the cheesecake. It's already busy so you will need to book It's great to see this landmark pub brought back to life with real style.

Great traditional pub food, reasonably priced drinks, friendly and enthusiastic staff. Delighted to find this venue reopened and flourishing.
