Jun 18,2023Used the Original Bro oven a few times now. Overall really enjoy it. The good: Shipping was much quicker than expected. 2.5 weeks to get across Canada via transport truck freight is good. The packing was very good and well done. The steel is very thick and excellent thermal for an oven. I hobby weld and I do appreciate thick carbon steel is not cheap and this whole oven is made of it. The oven retains heat for many hours after the fire is long out. I have been using birch wood and have managed to get the temp up to 750F. Pizzas turn out great and even tried a spatchcock chicken in a cast iron pan and it turned out incredible. Love the smoky bbq flavour. Burning my own hardwood is much cheaper than our pellet grill. For dishes like this. The con: For the price, I have very high expectations. Since there is zero welds some of the parts are more “loose” than I would like. A few welded items would improve the oven in my mind. For example, the handles for the doors are loosely placed on the doors. The heavy quality feel of the product is minimized by this. There is no reason why they can’t make these more solid. The door to the fire box is not firmly attached. There are no hinges but rather a pivot point again loosely holding it in. There were 5 bricks that were “pre cut” because the instructions mentions they are too tight. However I wish none of my bricks were pre cut because I ended up with a 1” gap in the oven cavity. If the bricks were left alone they would have all fit perfectly. I managed to fabricate a piece of heavy gauge box steel to fit in this gap. Last negative is the very last step to “lock the oven pieces in place” uses a few small pieces of steel that you take a hammer and tap into place. The steel locking pieces were a few thousands of an inch too small and would not “lock into place” when using a hammer. I ended up tack welding these areas and all is good. The instructions mention that this step is not necessary if you want to disassemble the unit for a move. I suppose that’s true but because the whole unit uses locking pieces and no welds it’s nice to have a firm, sturdy, solid unit at the end. Also, in my opinion, once you get it assembled, not sure you would ever want to take apart and put back together. If we ever move from our house I would figure out how to move it assembled. Anyway, don’t let my “cons” deter you from buying the oven. If you do really want an authentic wood fire oven that is not like many Mickey Mouse ovens I see online, home hardware, Facebook adds, etc, this is the right choice. Hopefully the company can continue to improve on this over time.

Oct 20,2022Crate delivered as promised. Easy to open as lid screwed down. All parts were relatively easy to identify and were in crate. A few were slightly tricky to maneuver into place but we managed. Arranging firebricks took a bit of time as there are two different sizes. All in all fairly straightforward. Definitely not a 90 minute job though. We were at least double that as we wanted to get it right on first go. Fired it up to season and haven’t looked back. Pizza and a focaccia bread so far. Jun 30,2022Having looked at many different oven plans and kits and having had the chance to use several, I found the Oven Brothers Original Bro offered the best balance of everything on my want list. The company was excellent in the its communication; the kit was shipped quickly, arrived well and was packed immaculately; the instructions were clear and easy to follow; the pieces were precision cut and wonderfully well manufactured; and the whole oven came together quite easily and quickly. I had heard the firebrick could be tricky to fit, but it was easy enough to cut and really didn’t pose a challenge. In use the oven heats up surprisingly fast! With practice we have managed to start the fire, begin prepping our ingredients, and have the oven box at temperature about the same time our pizza is ready to go in! All in all an excellent experience with solidly good value!
