We relieve the suffering of orphaned, sick and injured native animals through effective rescue and rehabilitation, and support research that will benefit them in the longer term. We will advocate on their behalf and create awareness amongst South Australians of their beauty and value to ensure they are here for generations to come. Our volunteers fulfil many varied roles, which collectively, and in collaboration with other organisations, contributes to the short and long-term welfare of our native wildlife and the conservation of their habitat in South Australia.
Thank you so much for being there to care for our wildlife and for us humans who find frightened wildlife babies and don't know how to care for them. Few other doors or phone lines were open in the early dark hours of the morning. I'm so grateful for your help and for the work you do.
So glad you were available to call. Your volunteers are seriously caring and knowledgeable about what to do. Thank you 🙏
Came across injured kangaroo broken let result of car called sowfi and the lady was very helpful told her where and she then organised help for the poor little fella sadly he had to be put down at least he didn't suffer for long sowfi is a volunteer run place that is very professional thank you
Excellent organisation. Called for advice - brilliant response - end result was a safe native animal. Thank you.
I had great service. I wanted to ring about a bird that was bobbing about the yard but rang the koala line by mistake. They popped me onto a lovely woman who gave me advice on what to do. She also encouraged me to call back anytime as they are a 24 hour service.
I have possums and I found the advice very practical, informative and dedicated. I called on a Sunday and was able to get a hold of someone who could give me realistic expectations. Thank you.
Cannot thank these beautiful volunteers enough. After locating a poor, scared possum under our dog’s kennel, a call to the SOWFI got me online with one of the nicest volunteers, who helped reassure me that I’d already done a great job and guided me through the next steps. Happy to say the little guy has decided to vacate his brief home and is back in his rightful spot!
Found an injured baby possum and after trying several rescue sites and being on hold, SOWFI answered immediately. Gave sound advice on how to manage situation and provided name of nearest vet registered with them to accept wildlife as emergencies. Volunteer I spoke to also told me to notify vet that they could call SOWFI if animal needed a carer and they would find one for it. Great assistance as distressing not to be able to help an injured or sick animal quickly when you find one.
The volunteer on the phone Debra was very helpful when I rang re a shelduck that was in our yard. She contacted a duck expert and gave me good advice. I took the duck to the vet but unfortunately they had to euthanasia it.
Well informed, kind, and caring people. Went out of their way to help. I like the fact they recognise that not every animal or bird can be saved, and that’s challenging for the person who found the poor thing.
Found a baby possum that needed help and after trying to contact numerous wildlife fauna rescue groups with no success, contacted SOWFI. They answered straight away and were extremely helpful and very willing to assist. Can’t thank them enough and highly recommend if you need someone to help our poor injured wildlife. Thank you
We found an injured magpie on Christmas eve and desperately needed help for the heat affected, injured and scared bird. Because it was Christmas eve the wildlife people we spoke to were unable to help us and couldn't refer us to any vets in our local area. We finally called the Salisbury vets who referred us to the Animal critical care hospital in Kurralta Park, who were able to help. We were in Kersbrook at the time, and it was 4pm in the afternoon, so we drove for an hour with the injured magpie to drop him/her off for urgent medical care. We had called 3 wildlife rescue centres/advice centres before speaking to the Salisbury vets and not one could help due to it being Christmas eve. The lady we spoke to wasn't from our state and was lovely but couldn't help us and I couldn't live with myself if the magpie had to suffer. Hopefully with more donations and funds there could be a service with vet care 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
Amazing dedicated compassionate people at SOWFI. I found a Baby Lorikeet at a busy Train Station. It looked healthy but couldn't fly yet. I took it to my local vet who suggested I return it to the area. The poor creature would not have survived a busy railway station not to mention Minor birds that were ready to pounce. I called the lovely dedicated volunteers at SOWFI who posted the request to their wildlife carers. Later that morning I received a call from Jacob who was so nice. We arranged to meet and hand over the baby Lorikeet. I later received an update that the little bird was doing really well and healthy and now had a name. It was a heart-warming experience. I can't speak highly enough about this organisation. They are amazing.
I found a fledgling owl in my front yard that was being attacked by other birds. I caught it with a towel and rang these guys. They sent someone around to collect the beautiful owl to take it to a specialist vet. Awesome service!!!!
I spoke with three members regarding baby birds that had fallen out of their nest. All members were helpful and knowledgeable and I was able to help the birds to be safe and continue to be fed by their parents. Thank you!
Jane was extremely helpful and put our minds at ease when we called about a little Galah. Very prompt and I appreciated all the knowledge she provided. Thank you so much
Thank goodness for these wonderful people who care enough to volunteer their time to support and give advice to people who find animals in need of some human help. Thankyou for your assistance and information today, the world needs more people like you. ❤️
Thank goodness for these wonderful caring people!
Huge thank you for being available near midnight and giving us so much advice and help including the address for the nearest 24/7 hospital and how to transport an injured possum. Thank you for your simple phone number and very prompt response. Can’t thank you enough.

Jun 26,2023The first call I made redirected me to SOWFI and the advice I received was excellent. I'm very grateful to all the people who donate their time to such an important cause, and I hope to assist in the future.
