Seaton End was traditionally a fishermans cottage, built over 300 years ago, and has been in our family for almost half a century. It is full of cosy charm with its original beams and open coal fire. With the beach, café, pub and beautiful walks on your doorstep it is the perfect place to enjoy a well-earned short break or holiday. The cottage has 2 bedrooms, bathroom, living room, kitchen and small entrance area. Staithes is nestled amongst ancient cliffs at the coastal edge of the North York Moors National Park. The picturesque fishing village with winding alleys and cobble streets is popular with artists, photographers, walkers as well as those who the beach, café’s and pubs.

We stayed in Seaton End Cottage in Staithes in July 2022. We had an absolutely wonderful time. It’s a 300 year old cottage, situated right on the front. It has several interesting period features. The beach is literally a stone’s throw away and you can see the sea from almost every upstairs window. The cottage was very clean. It’s got a double bedroom and a single bedroom and size wise suits 3 people (and a baby: there’s also a travel cot). The living room is very cosy, lovely to sit there and watch the world go by. Staithes itself is a gorgeous, fishing village with a long history. Steep roads lead down to the harbour. Note, there is very limited short term parking down at the bottom of Staithes but it was straight forward to book long term parking at the top of the bank. Can drop off luggage and then take car up to park and walk down. There’s several little shops, a museum and an art gallery, at least a couple of pubs. Can do a walk along the Cleveland Way from Staithes with views over the cliffs. Plenty to do near Staithes too. We visited Runswick Bay beach which is beautiful. Highly recommend a stay in Seaton End Cottage in Staithes.

A quaint and cosy cottage in the perfect location, only a few steps from the beach and harbour. The perfect place to sit and watch the world go by. We love the Cod and Lobster pub and the warm coble cake from the café is delicious. The clifftop walk to Runswick Bay is well worth the effort with stunning views. We found fossils and crabs in the rock pools near the lifeboat station. A lovely escape.

Just had a lovely weekend in Staithes. Seaton End Cottage is probably in the best location in the village. The Cottage is small and cosy ideal for 2-3 guests plus a small dog. Beautiful log fire. Fully equipped kitchen. Beautiful views. Although we thoroughly loved the cottage I do feel I need to comment on cleanliness. The paint work such as doors, window ledgers and skirting boards could do with a good clean and a fresh lick of paint. Dust and cobwebs on ceilings lampshades and crockery cupboard. I do appreciate the age of the Cottage and this only meant to be a constructive criticism. These few issues could simply be rectified and make Seaton End perfect.

The cottage is a quaint fisherman’s cottage, it is small but cosy with wooden beams and open fire (logs for the fire can be bought two doors up from local house at a much better price than Co-op). It is right on the harbour front at Staithes and has an amazing view out of the living room and bedroom windows. It is at the bottom of a very steep hill but the walk up and down provide lovely views as do local walks along the cliff top. The cottage was clean and equipped with all you need. The owner checked all was ok on arrival by phone as we were a very last minute (that day) booking and emailed all details we needed, as they were unable to leave them due to current Covid Safety and restrictions. The cottage is right next door to the Cod and Lobster pub, which do lovely food but were very busy so you need to make a reservation for evening meals during the busy holiday season, or as we found if you table hop late afternoon you can get an evening meal in before reservations start! As it is next to the pub expect a bit of noise early morning when they are emptying bins etc but did not put us off, we enjoyed early morning views and walks with the dog. We found the area to be dog friendly if travelling with your 4 legged friend! Only downsides was the parking cost each day at the top of the hill, however we used the Ring Go app which made it easy and sent text reminders when it was due to run out. The cottage has an immersion heater so you have to wait for hot water for baths as no shower, but we quickly got in a routine of putting it on in the morning and evening. We are a family of 3 with a small dog and enjoyed lots of walking around the harbour, cliffs and visited a lovely beach at Saltburn-by-the-Sea, half of which is dog friendly. It is an ideal place for a couple or small family to have cosy evenings and enjoy the outdoors. Make sure you do the cliff walk up the cobble street and past the farm at the top and across the fields/ hills, amazing views!
