We are a design company that specializes in IKEA kitchen design and we have over 10 years experience in doing so. As part of the services we offer, we can also provide designs for their laundries, PAX wardrobes and BESTA storage systems. We have extensive knowledge of the IKEA ordering process and also the installation of their products, enabling us to guide you through the process from the initial design brief to completion of the renovation.
The emphasis on consultation and deliberation at Burra Design helps us ensure quality work and budget management. We take the time with our clients to really understand the reasons behind their renovation and what it is they wish to achieve with the space in question. We then transform our thoughts and discussions into design, supporting our clients in achieving their overall interior design goals. This enables us to create original spaces that are interesting, comfortable and deeply personal. Burra Design believes that everyone deserves to be inspired by the spaces they spend time in.

I was initially hesitant to work with a third party designer, preferring to design it myself, but I would strongly recommend anyone else to work with Alex rather than go it alone or just with the IKEA staff designers. He picked up on problems with my deign that I would never have found until it was too late. He was extremely easy to work with and his knowledge of the IKEA range and specifics of designing an IKEA kitchen was unparalleled, much greater than the IKEA kitchen designers. His designs were high quality, including detailed notes for our installers and the store. He was always very quick and thorough in responding to our follow up questions. We love our new kitchen and could not have done it without Alex. I cannot recommend him enough.

Nov 05,2024IKEA HACK MASTER We were completely new to the thought of the ikea hack system for achieving beautiful custom joinery on a budget. Alex came highly recommended by the door manufacturers. Alex fitted us in for a consult promptly and he came with enthusiastic energy and passion. He has years of specialist experience and knows exactly how to hack the tricky details. We received our designs within a couple of days and Alex was extremely patient and responsive with all our queries and eager to welcome a tricky challenge. We have now have stunning robes, miles of storage and smiles on our faces!

Nov 02,2024Thank you Alex for helping us so much with our kitchen design. We had a basic plan in place but Alex was so helpful with tweaking it and putting on the finishing touches. He has an awesome in-depth knowledge of ikea cabinets etc. and what can be done. I also loved how he was very honest about what would/wouldn't look good. We installed it ourselves and chose our own non ikea sink and tap and it looks awesome - the benchtop installers kept commenting how it looked like a professionally designed and installed kitchen!

Oct 28,2024We knew we wanted So Watt fronts for our kitchen renovation, but we had no idea how to pair that with the Ikea cabinets, especially with the spacing. Alex provided the detail we lacked. He knows the Ikea catalogue inside and out. He understands how to pair with a 3rd party panels. He understands how to design for your space. Alex was able to get us comfortable with our overall plan, provided the detail to make the So Watt and Ikea ordering process a breeze, and even provided good recommendations on who to install it all for us. Alex was always super clear with his communication and very quick to respond. We will likely use his services again we we can next afford to do the laundry!

Sep 13,2024After a successful kitchen project last year we decided to work with Alex and the team at Burra on our new project which included a large kitchen, laundry, study and wardrobes. We did get a quote on bespoke joinery for various areas and the Ikea proposition (and value / cost) is hard to go by when designed properly. The team at Burra have delivered again. The service is quick, responsive and clear. Alex’s understanding of all the little bits which add value and polish to the IKEA offer. When placing the order with IKEA their sales representative was very happy with the clear notes describing all the little extras tip and tricks noted by Burra. We are using SO WATT face panels and the ordering process and collaboration between the businesses has been excellent. We couldn’t recommend Burra enough.

His service and communication are exceptional and he was always happy to answer any question or help problem solve with ease. Alex expertise and product knowledge helped us tremendously and the outcome is that we were able to customize both designs as much as possible. All trades that have come in to install different parts of our overall home reno, have been so impressed with the design and finish and wanted details of who we worked with. Overall we worked out that it has saved us approx. $10k working with Alex, vs a kitchen studio (comparing like for like). Would happily use Burra Design again, thanks!

From the initial phone call it was clear that Alex knew what we were after, as was able to create a design that would fit within our budget. He clearly knows the IKEA range and systems inside-out, which means he could quickly pull together different design ideas, taking into account both style and practicality. As someone who is very time poor, I really appreciated Alex’s promptness and flexibility. It was also fantastic he was able to put us in touch with his contacts in the industry to assist with the install.

Alex was accessible at very short notice any time we needed him. The whole process was a breeze and doing it this way allowed us to achieve a finish with real wood veneer and real marble at the cost of a big standard laminex-type kitchen. Highly highly recommended.
