A great day's tuition from a really pleasant and helpful team.
What an incredible day. After 9-hours with the team at CAT Driver Training I left with far more knowledge and skills on how to drive quicker and more safely – and a bottle of champagne for posting the fastest time of the day! Of particular interest to me was how the course was tailored to suit the Porsche 911 and the behavioural characteristics of the rear engined layout as the car corners at speed, and the extra time given to teach the advantages of trail braking and left foot braking to a novice such as myself.
Great day with the CAT team. Very professional and friendly tuition. Learnt a lot about the car, and how I can improve. Will be going back soon for a 1 to 1 session.
Excellent - knowledgeable, friendly and professional team - would highly recommend to anyone wanting to improve their driving skills.
What a great day with CAT! Taught a variety of skills to improve my driving ability and my safety on the road. Colin improved my understanding of my new car with excellent teaching and explanations. I hope to attend other courses with them in the future and urge anybody wanting to improve their driving further to consider CAT.
I have done 5 or 6 days with CAT driver training now. Each time offers another chance to learn and to develop skills. Their continued professionalism and enthusiasm makes every visit a fantastic day out.
Completed the high performance driver training with Colin. Colin was a brilliant instructor, providing clear explanations and demonstrations of skills followed by great instruction on how to apply. Came away with a much better understanding of both car (911 GT3) and my own abilities in addition to learning a lot of new skills to improve my ability to drive the GT3 to a higher standard and apply on the track. The course solidified my confidence in the car and has lead to a much greater appreciation of the car's capability and my own enjoyment in the drive experience! Overall the day was extremely enjoyable and will definitely be continuing on with the Optimisation course.
Had a blast yesterday at the CAT Driver Training. This course should be a "must" for every performance car owner. It is not going to transform you in a race driver overnight (you need lots of practice for that), but it does open "the doors of perception" in terms of how to have fun with your car and how it behaves at the limit. Also very good advice and experience even if you are not a total newbie and look to improve different aspects of your driving. Many thanks to Jo and Paul.
Both my husband & I had a wonderful day while completing our Performance Driver Course with Colin. This is a very friendly, informative day. We'd highly recommend this course to anyone who wants a better understanding of what a car can do and why it does it, while also improving on your own driving skills. Can't wait to book our next course after our hols....Fantastic.
It's difficult to explain in a short review how impressed I am with the CAT team and the quality of the courses they offer. I spent two days with Paul and came away more confident and competent behind the wheel than I've ever felt before. There is an enormous amount of content to take in but at no point did I ever feel overwhelmed and what elements I did struggle with ( heel and toe was difficult for me ), Paul was able to help me understand them and apply them to my driving consistently by the end of my two days. On top of all that, it's a fantastic experience and the entire CAT team are a pleasure to spend the day with. I had a huge amount of fun and I'll definitely be coming back!
What a great day that was. Learnt so much. Highly recommend this day to anybody wanting to learn and improve their driving skills and capabilities. Colin and Paul just have so much skill and knowledge to pass on to anyone that wants to learn. They really make you think about what it means to be a really good driver.
A big thank you to Colin and team for a great day which had to be rescheduled from an earlier appointment when my 30yr old ABS packed in half way through the morning! Typical of the CAT approach to customers, there was never any issue about changing the day, even though Colin lost almost a whole day's training in the process. On the day Colin builds up your technical knowledge of each exercise before setting you loose on the proving ground. This is invaluable as it maximises the time you spend mastering the driving technique. I've learnt there is no point going out on a track until you know what you are aiming to achieve, how and why the car will behave in a certain way, and what you need to do to master the technique. All I can say is that it worked for me. I wanted to learn how to master my twitchy old 911, basically drive it faster safely. This is the most valuable time I've ever spent behind the wheel, and far better value than expensive vehicle modifications.
I attended an "Optimisation" course with my wife over a weekend to learn how to piece together various skills into a more refined system of performance driving. It's been said before, but the CAT Driver approach is so much more advanced than that of a shouty ex-racing driver who's focussed purely on braking by cones and getting out alive at the end of the day. CAT teaches you about the mechanics of car balance, and that knowledge really helps you understand what the vehicle is trying to do in any given situation. As a result, you can start to learn how best to stabilise the vehicle, which generates more grip, which helps you get faster, safer. Colin is a phenomenal instructor/coach who's evidently taught so many people, he can immediately pick up on which specific flaws or behaviours your're not quite getting right, and then encourages you until you correct them. Without a coach of this calibre, it's almost impossible to pick up on your own subconscious foibles, let alone find a way to overcome them. I've learned so many useful techniques that I've pretty much had to re-learn how to drive properly. Country roads are now traversed in a far more controlled & stable manner compared to the uncertain/excessive braking/misjudged corners of old. The facilities at CAT & Millbrook are first rate, with all manner of winding roads, routes & surfaces to help demonstrate or practise the specifics of the driving instruction. And a final note on how CAT is run & operated - about an hour into the second day, we got a puncture - no chance of repair. While I rang the AA, Colin tried his local contacts to see if they could source a tyre. As we were going to miss lunch, Jo heroically came out from home to drop off a tray of sandwiches. And when the car had to get recovered back to the garage, CAT offered to reschedule the day free of charge - an incredibly well appreciated gesture. Utterly recommended for anyone who takes their driving seriously and wants to improve without having to rely on cone placement.
Excellent. Top staff.
An excellent day of instruction on understanding how to drive a performance car and in particular your own car. Although done as a group session it was customised to include each individual's requirements. The actual training was done 1-on-1 and was actively assessed and adjusted to my comfort, confidence, and ability throughout the day. I learnt a huge amount about driving a performance car and in particular was able to apply this to my own car. I have since been able to put this to good use as a daily drive as well as track car and feel safer and more confident. I would say that the day is well balanced and the instructors are excellent in handling each driver calmly and firmly. Fully recommend this course to anyone of any skill level as we also had very experienced people attend who found it useful as well.
Jo,Colin and Paul were excellent host and instructors on the day. Learned so much about myself as a driver and my car, would highly recommend this if you are wanting to improve you're driving and confidence. But above all its a very enjoyable day. Would love to go back and get some more excellent training
Observation and Weight Management - These were the two key lessons that I learnt from the Performance Driver Course. Colin is a great instructor with so much experience and technical knowledge. I've come away with a much better understanding of how my car behaves under various conditions. With all the skills learnt during the day I was able to achieve a 0.3 secs time differential over 3 laps on the short handling circuit at the end. I would highly recommend Cat Driver Training to anyone looking to become a faster but safer driver and will certainly be back again to experience some of their advanced courses in the near future.
Really good day exploring the limits of my car, and I was very impressed with the level of knowledge and skill these guys have. I booked a session with 5 other people, so we had 2 instructors between us and it was really good fun as well as learning lots. I've done many track days and lots of driving experiences, but I learnt more in 1 day than I was expecting. I will definitely be booking a 1-2-1 day to improve even more.
