I am updating the review based on new information. Most of the previous review is still valid, the new information is regarding the charging mechanism. I received a support message indicating that the magnetic charging is actually a removable dongle. This USB magnetic charging mechanism is the part that was rusting. Knowing 1.5 years ago would have saved me so much grief. The company is no longer shipping the magnetic USB dongle. Knowing magnetic dongle is removable, is actually a good idea as it protects the USB socket from sweat. The fact that it rust is just a consequence of the salty environment. Since it is removable, I would consider the magnetic dongle as a sacrificial metal component. It is common to have sacrificial components on a boat to deal with corrosion, given that non-corrosive metals are few and expensive. IMO, the company should have provided extra magnetic dongles so that the end-user understand that this is a sacrificial component. You can also buy these dongles online (e.g. amazon Magnetic Charging Cable) The current device no longer ships with the magnetic dongle and I assume that they cover the USB with some rubber cap. Alternatively, you could use these replaceable magnetic dongle. I did report this rust issue a few times and wish support would have made it clear that the USB dongle is removable. In either case, this is now resolved. Additionally, the device no longer needs rebooting on a regular basis. So I will remove that from the review. I am updating the review to 5 stars given that the device has worked very well. Old review - I have used this device for about 1.5 years every day. I am an athlete and I find this to be a great update from a typical heart rate monitor. I have measured the HRM and compared to others and seems to be within 1 beat of the typical Garmin HRM chest strap. What this device excels is in the ability to capture high-resolution EKGs data while exercising or sleeping. This can help understand how stress affects your heart. Sleeping capability is useful to understand recovery. This is not a small device - it is about 2 x thicker than a typical HRM chest strap, so keep that in mind. It works for me. The devices provides EKG and you will need to become knowledgeable to understand what is "normal" or you'll need to seek someone that does. This device is not going to give you advice or recommendations on your EKG. When it finds not-normal activities it flags them, however, that does not mean that is a problem...it just means that is not 'typical'. There are books like "Rapid Interpretation of EKG's by Dr. Dubin that can be helpful. However, even so, different types of exercise can lead to "non-normal" EKG so you may need to research specific situations as an individual. I have not confirmed that the EKG is reliable. While it seems to be true-to-form, I have not benchmark it against a medical grade device. However one of this new company devices just received approval as a medical grade device, so it does give me confidence that they have the depth of knowledge for the accuracy. Additionally, it has extra measurements that can be useful such as heart strain (millivolts), HRV, and breathing rate. When recording exercise outside, the app actually shows both Garmin and phone GPS data in its own app. Not that is critical, but is a nice to have for a quick view. It also estimates calories, however, that seems inaccurate - especially when resting. It calorie estimates seems repeatable, just not accurate. For outdoor exercise, the calorie count is +10% from Strava (which is also an estimate), thus that seems more credible. Still, I appreciate the company is trying to provide data and I hope they improve those numbers. The battery life is very generous and will last 24 hours of continuous recording. However it is best to record specific activities so that they can be grouped and compared rather than one long stream. Charging is very quick as well. The Bluetooth performance is excellent. It has multiple channels and has been very reliable, something I can't say for other Bluetooth devices. The company customer is responsive. They do know enough to address the device capabilities. The company is actively addressing bugs with updates to the device firmware, mobile app and website. Additionally, they do add new features (e.g. calories burned) It is the best HRM for an athlete that I am aware. Thus highly recommend it. Positives: > high-resolution EKG continuous 24 hours and while exercising > Excellent battery life > Excellent charging > HRV > Strain/stress, heart mV > Multi-Bluetooth channels Negatives: >the device will only record down to 35 beats per minute, so if you are below that...it will show 35 as the lowest BPM. I hope that they can lower this limit to 25 BPM.
First of all, I really like the Frontier x2 heart rate monitor with ECG. Second, the customer service is excellent. Every encounter I've had with them has resolved the issue and in a short amount of time.
It's a very good and relevant gadget for understanding the traits if your heart especially after 40. I am late entrant into the running at the age of 44. I realized that it's better to understand whether I am pushing myself beyond my capacity or not. The parameters keep on letting you real-time information like heart rate variability, strain, cadence etc. It has an internal algorithm to keep the limits on the parameters based on your age, weight etc. Very satisfied with the product.
After finishing my Cardiac rehab recently, I purchased my Frontier X to help monitor my heart rate as I continue to recover. My therapist in rehab recommended this model over the cheaper ones. I am really glad I spent the little extra money to purchase a Frontier. The statistics and graphs that are emailed after each workout (whether it is a walk, pickleball or work in the Gym) are emailed immediately (with the ECR) after I turn off the monitor. This monitor does more than just heart rate, it has Breathing rate, heart strain, and training load to just mention a few. All this information is easily printable to take to a doctor to look at. I HIGHLY recommend a Frontier X Heart monitor!
I purchased my first Frontier X 3 years ago after surviving a Cardiac arrest. It helped me gain the confidence to exercise and run again (more a jog now!). My daughter inherited the X in December and I purchased myself a new X2. The X2 began recording significant proportions of unexplainable "noisy" rhythm. I reported this and after a number of chats and attempts to improve the signal Poonam had the tech team at FF investigate further. This concluded in identifying a hardware fault and FF immediately offering to replace the device. My new device arrived last night and will be tested this weekend....
The Frontier X2 is outstanding. As a retired emergency physician, I can attest that the quality of the tracing printed out as a pdf is excellent even during vigorous exercise. It will not allow the fine interval measurements that a medical monitor can, but it is close enough, that I will be able to easily identify any serious irregularity. The app allows one to see rhythm without printing it out. One can even send live real time rhythm to a friend or expert while one is exercising. While the target audience is high performance athletes, there are other excellent uses. Basically it is the lowest cost way to do frequent ambulatory monitoring for arrhythmias, irregularities of heart rhythm. This is what a holter monitor does. I am a retired emergency physician who is morbidly obese. I am on a less than 800 calorie/day diet for rapid weight loss. One of the rare but very serous potential complications is serious cardiac arrhythmias or even cardiac arrest. This is caused by serious abnormalities of electrolytes, minerals in blood stream. Even though I am a physician, the cost of recurrent holter monitors is extreme. With the Frontier X2 I am able to monitor for up to 24 hours at a time multiple times a week. I have picked up a pattern of arrhythmias, but fortunately, they are not serious and only need to be occasionally monitored to be certain they don't progress to a more serious form. With the frequency that I want to monitor during extreme dieting (I am cautious with my life risk) I will easily save well over a thousand dollars over the next several months. I do have the advantage as an emergency physician that I can interpret the rhythm strips & know when I need to see my doctor for any issues. With the internet and additional effort, one doesn't have to be a doctor to get a pretty good idea of what the rhythms are showing. One can use it if they go into & out of atrial fibrillation if they don't have a smart watch the does cardiac rhythms with the advantage that much longer periods can be monitored.
Pavan answered all my questions and was courteous
Excellent customer service so if you have any questions about product just make contact.
New to the Fourth Frontier and my experience has been fantastic so far. Very helpful with setup and live tech support. I'm very interested to speak with their health expert to discuss all the data that I am collecting and determine how to optimize my exercise programs.
I am using the device since 2021. While I faced some annoying issues with FX1, the support team made everything possible to solve the problems, including changing the device if needed. Support is just close to perfect. I wish all companies provide this kind of service. Now I am using an FX2 and almost no issues. The device is amazing, all doctors and specialists who check its records get impressed. Really helpful to understand your training sessions, zones, performance, and heart response. I would like to mention that being a great device for people with heart problems, it is extremely useful for any sport person regardless heart health. For me it is a must to wear for each sport I practice, any session. If I forgot to charge it, I just postpone the session, I feel blind otherwise. I was also using the coaching program and was just amazing. I stopped for different reasons and cannot wait to sign up again. Just as a note to make it even better, you guys could include more data for each particular sport. However, with the new possibility to connect to other third parties devices could cover this, so you can use it together with any sport specific one. Also, just one thing I do not like, is the recharge slot cover, easy to be lost and not very confident to ensure watertightness.
On holiday recently following 6 weeks of chest infection I was breathless and dizzy on climbing stairs or going uphill when walking. I bought this to diagnose my irregular heart rhythm ( I am a retired doctor) whilst I organised a medical review. I found it very helpful as the quality of the single lead V5 ECG is very good. I was able to present this to the doctor when I saw him. Whilst I wait for further investigation I am using the device every day in the gym on the treadmill. I find the ECG the most useful piece of information. The heart strain reading I am not so sure about because I think it may be misinterpreting this due to the fact I have 'ectopic' beats. It's still early days but I am impressed with this device and the quality of it's build and software. I'll add another review as time goes on.
Great product, very insightful data & customer centricity second to none. As an example, when I had a question I was able to organise a live video call with their knowledgeable support team. Highly recommended.
It's a total game-changer for me, especially with its "Mark an Event" feature. I've suffered from Afib and this ECG wearable changes everything for me. I can share my data directly with my cardiologists and has saved me many a visit! The vibration alerts is my second favourite feature because it leaves me stress free. I don't need to worry about pushing my heart too hard because this device is there to warn me before I cross my limits. Great customer support and helpful team!
I suffered from heart failure a few months ago. The Frontier X2 device has been an absolute game changer. I was able to go back to exercising because of being able to measure ST Depressions on the move and to set alerts that make sure that I'm safe. This device has let me live life normally again and for that i'm thankful. The ECG livestream feature is a god send because it lets me share my live ECG with my cardiologist.
I'm aiming to get good at zone 2 training over a long endurance efforts. the Fourth Frontier heart rate monitor is a huge help dialing this in. I can see right when I slip into zone 3 and correct it by backing off slightly. I love having this level of visibility into my workouts to be able to stay on the area I am targeting.
Great product which gives reliable ECG in all active situations. Support team are quick to respond. I have the X2 and am very pleased with it.
I can say having used the FF heart rate monitor for the past x7 months, that’s it’s the worst piece of fitness monitoring kit/equipment that I’ve ever used. It’s so poor with ref to use ability and general glitches that it would be impossible to state all of them. I’ve used so many different types in the past, polar et al and they were all far superior with far less hassle. I’m now back to using my Apple Watch which is fine of course but when you’ve spent all that money and you get a bag of dross in return, it seriously leaves you with a very bitter taste in your mouth. Bottom line, DONT BUY THIS ITEM!
Great product and delivery
This device is only able to work properly while you are resting . Data generated during run is faulty and the system is unable to analyze it . Contrary to the promise. Customer support on the other hand is crap.
