The origins of the company date back to 1860, when Irish immigrant Edward Kelley started a part-time hauling business in Connecticut. Well before the age of the automobile (or truck or bus), the hauling was done by horses. Kelley’s horses were also supplied to the Torrington Fire Department. Trucks eventually replaced the horses, and over the years the company branched out to three divisions—coal/fuel, livery and busing. Three generations of the Kelley family owned and operated the business, and the trucking and fuel/coal divisions eventually were dissolved. The family focused its attention on the remaining division--passenger transportation.
In 2005, after 145 years of continuous operation, the Kelley family sold the business to John and Corinne Nason. John Nason has 30 years in the passenger transportation business, with extensive experience with transit contracts, paratransit operations, and transit project start-ups around the country. Today, although the company continues to proudly operate from Torrington, Connecticut, our service extends well beyond our area. We can take you anywhere within the U.S. or Canada.
Our focus is on you, the customer, whether you’re a large company, a public entity, or an individual. Our professional, friendly, knowledgeable staff can assist you in planning your travel needs from start to finish.
Great experience with Kelley Transit. Our company manages multiple events around the country and therefore we book motor coaches on a regular basis. The experience with Kelley Transit has been positive from start to finish. Quick to provide estimates and answer questions, competitive pricing, organized and efficient contracting process and nice vehicles. I couldn't ask for more. I've already booked another charter with them in May.
On time courteous and clean equipment
Driver was awesome! So nice and accommodating.
Excellent service both before and during the trip which was 2 charter buses to Mohegan Sun for my fundraising group.
Kelley transport booking and trip was seamless and professional. Our group was quite pleased with the driver and highly recommends the service.
Christmas NYC Trip- AWESOME! Let's start with the bus driver, Jackie. Amazing individual. Very familiar with the location. Bus was comfortable, clean, and roomy. I will definitely contact Kelley Transit Company for my next trip. Nancy :)
Great pricing and they were great to work with on planning details for our school trip.
We have been using Kelley Transit for 25+ years. There has been an occasional glitch over that time period but nothing major. The office staff we deal with are very helpful and the drivers are great.
Very reliable company. Nice buses.
The bus driver made our trip awesome because she was thoughtful, helpful. very accommodating for the many elderly on the bus. This Bus driver(a lady) at times went over and beyond by allowing us to get something to eat after the show because individuals needed to eat for medical reasons. She helped us with one of the individuals that got sick. willing to take her to the emergency room, thank God all worked out. All the passengers want her again and showed their appreciation by giving generously toward the tip. Saundra P. Stephenson
We were happy with our service and would recommend Kelley Transit.
A very consumer oriented company. A pleasure to do business with.
We used Kelley Transit for transportation to an out of state sporting event. The buses arrived on time and were clean and comfortable. The drivers were professional and courteous. We had a very positive experience with this company.
We appreciate you!
Staff is friendly, very customer-friendly and efficient and I'm always satisfied with the experiences I've had.

Apr 30,2018Kelley Transit has always been pretty good to our robotics team. They are priced right for our robotics team. Our biggest complaint is that the WIFI has never worked on our 3 trips that we took this competition season. This was first time being offered WIFI and were excited but disappointed each time. I stopped complaining this last trip. The interior of the bus (mainly the seat headrests are starting to deteriorate at back of the bus). It is time to either upgrade the seats, have reliable WIFI or get another bus. Our Driver for the second leg of the trip (after driver swap) was fantastic and would recommend MOMO (his nickname) to everyone. He worked with us very well within DOT guideline hours and was very accommodating. Don't get me wrong Kelley is a good company but needs to improve it's buses to compete with other companies out there.
