We provide a service, and we keep that fact in mind as we continue to work in this line of business. As a customer, you are our first priority, and we strive to make every one of our international relocations as simple and problem free as we can. Our policy is to hire only the best consultants and international household moving teams around. Each of our international shipping team members is a trained professional with years of experience helping people with their international move. This also applies to our drivers and packing teams, making sure that we provide nothing but the highest quality of service. Since every relocation is unique, you get your very own international representative who will go over the entire overseas move. Your international representative will be at your service to help you with any and all questions, concerns, or comments that you might have at any time during your relocation from start to finish.
I've done two moves with Shmidt now. One where they helped me crate a few items and move them. And another time to move just a state away. Customer service is very personable and I think that's important when dealing with a business. I judge most companies based on consistency not just service. After paying for their services twice and getting a great experience both times I'm very comfortable recommending this place to others.
The move to Chicago was done in a day and half. The truck driver called me once he reached the Illinois border early in the morning. I slept through the first call but answered the second when they were an hour out. This was one of the very few moves I've enjoyed and to think they got it done during a very snowy time, tremendous job by the whole staff.
Terrible experience with Schmidt, around 8 items, some of them very high value, turned up scratched and/or broken, packing consisted of items being thrown into boxes without proper wrapping, we couldn’t believe it when the van turned up as it had no branding, the guys weren’t wearing uniforms and didn’t speak English, the van itself looked like it should have been sold for scrap several years ago. Total sharks’ outfit, do not be tempted by the low prices, it will cost you more in the long run.
Simply I confirm that this is a company to avoid. A lot of hidden cost and a very poor service. They damaged a very expensive carpet and they simply offered to pay $0.60 per pound. Very unprofessional people!
After several international relocations, this company was the worst and by far. 1: I completed a form they requested to indicate the delivery floor and access (3rd floor and no elevator). 2: I paid for the quotation I received 3: once arrived in Europe they ask for additional fees to reach the 3rd floor and a stair carry (I have no heavy furniture to carry). They state the 3d floor without elevator was not included in the price even though they specifically requested it BEFORE I paid for the moving. 4: they chase me every other day to pay for these additional costs 5: they call me one week before to inform me they will deliver my furniture on the 19th, I told them I was abroad and will be home on the 22nd. They state they will bill me for the « cancellation »… 6: Not a single document mentions that additional costs may apply. 7: You have no other choice than to pay for everything they ask because they hold your furniture as hostages. Conclusion: that is exactly how scams proceed and this never happened to me before in dozens of international movings I had to deal with.
My wife and I contracted this company to move our household items from Oakland, CA to Dundee, Scotland. We didn’t think the price for the move was too bad, and the 3-month timetable seemed fair. It ended up taking them 10 months to deliver anything, many of our items were smashed to bits when we received them, and they ended up charging us an additional $1000 to get our items off the dock. We ended up going back and forth with their “Customer Service” department about all this. We were eventually offered $400 in recompense, provided we sign a “settlement agreement” freeing them from all legal liability for the late delivery and damages, and restricting us from commenting publicly on their staggeringly poor service. I don’t like being held over a barrel like that, so here we are. In any case, if you decide to go with this company, maybe don’t ship anything that’s too important to you, or that you want to see again any time soon.
Contracted Schmidt International Shipping for an overseas residential move from Boston to London. Initial exchanges and pick up of items went very smoothly on July 19th, 2021 with an estimated delivery window of around 10 weeks. Company seemed knowledgeable and handled tax documents carefully. But.. Fast forward to February 2022 and the shipment is yet to be delivered. It’s been more than 7 months and we are yet to receive our furniture pieces, clothes and personal belongings. As it is easy to understand, we experienced significant issues caused by this delay which made the overseas move of the family extremely difficult and significantly more costly than intended as we had to buy a lot of items again. While the international fret sector is experiencing unprecedented shortages, Schmidt international seems to have very little bargaining power to get their customers’ belongings loaded on ships. They failed to load the container on two different ships and had to eventually hand it over to a larger company/fret forwarder with presumably better access to ships. While communication was maintained, we had very little to no clarity on expected timelines following the first two failed attempts to load the container. Last issue to date now that the container finally reached a port in the UK, a new company we never dealt with is requesting an additional payment to deliver to the 3rd floor (!!) The entire situation is simply unacceptable and I would recommend avoiding Schmidt at all costs and sticking to larger companies.. Update March 2022: We were charged additional docking fees of 132usd as the shipment incurred charges when docked in New York for several months..
Because of another international moving group that was very inconsiderate, I had to reschedule my move. I was left without movers and needed everything in our two bed two bathroom home shipped to Ottawa ASAP to start my new job and life. Thank god I found this place. They got my move started 3 days after I called. No hidden fees, or any annoying moments. We were very hands and they were super hands all handling literally every detail of this move. Wasn't exactly what a full service move really was until I worked for them
Found them after doing about 10 hours of research online. They have all the connections and know how to make a move to Europe an easier task than it seems. I ran into almost no problems with my move to Edinburg. I'm new to international shipping so the only downside I saw was how long it takes for you to get your stuff. Nearly a month. After calling around to verify if that's legit I found out that it was. So they still deserve 5 stars for how great the service was.
International shipping is no joke. It can be quite expensive depending where you go. We got a few quotes and some were unbelievable. Schmidt worked out a very reasonable rate for us. To me it's important to not let the stress of it all get the best of you and pick the right place. Schmidt handled my move to Toronto well. They clearly knew what they were doing. All paperwork and the move itself was handled by them from beginning to end. They were realistic about the outcome and never once lied to me. Service was spot on.
I don't think I've ever had a move go so well and to think it was to another country is baffling to me. My spouse had planned to move Belgium back in 2020 but covid stopped that plan in its tracks. We're both self-employed and work online so there was nothing keeping us in Ohio. The move is something we talked about for years and when it couldn't happen it was a bit sad. Then after things began to get better and we both got vaccinated we reached back to Schmidt to see if the move was still possible. We got the go ahead for an April 2nd move starting the morning. We were thrilled. They came on time and treated all of our stuff with care. We just got out stuff today at our new place. We went through everything, no damage, not even a scratch on the boxes. They really looked for our stuff. We read some bad stories about international shipping in general but that definitely does pertain to this place. They really have a good system in place.
I really liked Schmidt International because it was a different type of operation than your regular cookie cuter moving company. In my moving history I've always gotten hit with an additional fee. It was either a gas fee, or an hourly addition for the movers. There was always something. With Schmidt I had a clear understanding of exactly the price the whole time. They set it up so there was no confusion. Not guessing games or tricks to get me in the door. They were honest hardworking and gave a couple updates each week while my shipment headed to Frankfurt, Germany. In short, this was one mover that was actually worth the amount I spent.
Local movers really need to step it up because if these guys can handle a move from San Fran to Montreal without any problems than the local guys have no excuses. Our movers had a tough job but they pushed through. The elevator in my building was temporarily out of service and being worked on during the day of the move. So they had to navigate down 3 flights of stairs. The movers wrapped each heavy item with a blanket so no scratches would occur to the wall or furniture. Movers in Montreal had a much easier job weeks later. My new place was on the first floor. For the whole move I was treated well, responded to without no more than a day wait time and never experienced any drama. Thank you to everyone who helped out for this move.
These guys did a great job moving us from Oakland to London. Whole staff was very professional, their communication really helped alleviate a lot of stress. They were on time and ready to go for the date we had set to move. They were able to move some very heavy antique furniture (that we were worried about) without a problem at all. Everything arrived just over a month later with zero damage. Super impressed that this all worked out the way it did!
Schmidt got us to Holland with very little stress involve. Everyone I dealt with here spoke kindly and provided some great hospitality along the way. The pricing was all inclusive and didn't have any factors or fine print that would give it the ability to change later on. I honestly liked this style of moving much better than local moving. I was under the impression with how tricky moving over seas is that there was going to be handful of issues but clearly they know what they're doing.
This was one of the best moving experiences I've ever had. Schmidt had more credible info out there online which brought me to them in the beginning. I took my time getting all the rates and details before confirming anything. I like this business because they're not pushy. They give you time to decided. Lots of effort was made on their part before they even knew I was going to use them. I'm just glad they gave me lots info and never rushed me so I could take time to decide what was right for me. A week later I booked my move and 4 weeks later I was unpacking in France. Ecstatic
Everything arrived within the promised estimated time & I never got asked for any additional payments. We paid upfront and money was never spoken of again. It definitely felt a bit weird paying thousands to work with a company we've never used before but at the end of the move... it honestly felt like a steal. They relocated so much stuff for us and everything arrived in perfect condition. One of the movers even labeled boxes that we forgot to label ourselves.
Best customer service and nicest movers I've ever dealt. Usually movers aren't very social. Most of the ones I've dealt with in the past don't even speak any English, which is fine but good communication is important. Schmidt set me up with two sets of movers for the move out and the move in. Every mover I dealt with spoke good English, listened to where I wanted things and never tracked in any dirt. They were very respectful of both my new and old place.
I shipped by car and my everything in my bedroom apartment to the Netherlands through Schmidt. It was really nice not have to use two separate companies for the job. 100% worth the money spent. There was no issues at all and I was expecting there to be a lot of them. International moving is so tough to do it correctly. These guys have a great system.

Nov 01,2024Schmidt understood all the issues with moving out of the country and really made it as easy as possible for us. I talked myself through all the details. I was worried about customs and getting moved once my things reached pairs. But everything ended up being very sooth sailing.
