I recently cancelled an insurance policy for a house I had just sold. I was expecting a long drawn out phone call taking hours. Instead I got through very quickly, was asked a set of simple questions to check my identity and my refund was calculated and arrangements made to return it in a couple of minutes. It was a great example of how to do insurance properly and efficiently. The lady on the other end of the phone was friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. A rare example of excellent service

I was incorrectly advised by an external agent/mortgage broker and took out insurance for the last 5 years which was not needed. I spoke to Nicholas Harvey from Source who understood my situation and was in regular contact both verbally and in writing and was extremely polite and kept me updated as it did involve 2 insurance companies and after I provided the right paperwork, we had a solution. My money was returned as I had a valid claim. Could not have done it without Nicolas help. Thank you very very much and I learnt a lot during this process

Oct 02,2024My policy was taken out through a broker, but it's crucial to be cautious of the high rate of finance charged, as well as the potential for misleading information and poor communication from them and, subsequently, Source Insurance. The policy was not fit for purpose, and it was cancelled twenty-one months in without as much as an apology. I would advise you shop around. UPDATE Hi Alison, Yes, the FOS found that Source Insurance had not done anything wrong. It is a clever way to operate by keeping the responsibility at arm's length and through brokers at times. I think it would be better business practice to ensure the end user is provided with their documents sooner than 20 months after the policy has been taken out. To then cancel and offer a £10 refund due to a mistake in paperwork is not really an example of recovering a poor situation you were involved with. If there had been any acknowledgement or apology, there would have been more understanding and potential for a five-star good recovery of service review. Kind Regards Jason FINAL UPDATE Dear Louise, I appreciate the response and acceptance of fault, but the paper documents were only provided more than 15 months after the policy had been started and on the second request. The policy documents were never available to me as the policyholder, as they were all sent via the broker. Source only changed them to my email on request after providing evidence that I owned the home where the policy was. It is a clever way to operate and distance yourself with brokers. I agree it would seem this is getting nowhere but feel its important morally for people to understand the situation that occurred in an underhand manner. Kind Regards Jason
