Quality experiences – large and small – set John Hall’s Alaska apart. In operation since 1982, nobody covers more of Alaska or provides a more enriched small-group experience. As a small family-owned and operated tour company with a passion for Alaska, personal attention, exclusive remote access, immersive cultural encounters, and included meals and activities are hallmarks of the John Hall’s Alaska experience.

These guided tours travel to all five regions of Alaska – the Artic, Inside Passage, Interior, Southcentral, and Southwest – and with group sizes ranging from only 24 to 40 guests, John Hall’s Alaska provides a more intimate “real” Alaska experience. Wildlife encounters, native cultural experiences, behind-the-scenes access, outdoor activities, and the finest lodging in Alaska are highlights of every departure. Combined tour offerings feature six of Alaska’s eight national parks and optional trips to the other two can be added before or after any scheduled tour.

Depending on the itinerary, guests explore via a wide range of transportation modes such as luxury motorcoach, small aircraft, GoldStar first-class rail service, and small private charter vessels. To ensure the highest level of comfort, John Hall’s Alaska operates and maintains a custom-built fleet of spacious MCI motorcoaches that represent the best on the roads of Alaska. Start to finish our Alaska Trip with your Company and the staff guiding us along through our entire trip were great. Even the weather was great. Has been 3 years and we still re-live it.

John Hall is one of the best companies I have traveled with in over 50 years of traveling. Their staff is always helpful and reliable. I have done the Gold Rush Tour in 2014 and in 2018 The Winter Wonderland tour.

John Hall's Alaska Tours and Cruises is the most AWESOME travel agency we have ever encountered. They are FRIENDLY, and go out of their way to TAKE CARE of each person in the tour group. We have traveled with them multiple times, and LOVE all of their people.

The tour was everything described. The limited group size was one reason we liked the tour. Having been on several tours, a good tour guide can add much to the enjoyment. John Hall tour guides were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful making the Alaskan tour much more satisfying. The length of tour and time at each location visited just right I would take other tours through John Hall Tours and have recommended John Hall Tours to friends and relatives.

Your company of John Halls Alaska Tours and Cruises was excellent and more than rating a 5 star in our opinion. The gals were there whenever I had a question re: whatever about the trip from clothing, to best sleeping area on the ship or whatever it might have been. John and Danielle did a super job of keeping us safe both on land and on the inside cruise. Then the unexpected with my husband being taken to the hospital by John. I think Joe was the person who p/u my husband from the hospital, got him a room at a hotel for the night after discharge, got to the airport, drove him from the airport to your lodge for the night until I got up there to pick him up with his equipment needed from the hospital. You handled the refund of trips scheduled by my husband that should have been taken on the cruise. I can not praise your employees enough for the superb job you extended to all of us and I am sure others would also state the same.

The land tour with John Hall's Alaska was THE most awesome trip my wife & I had ever been on. We did the "Grand Slam" as it was our first time to Alaska and seemed to give a wide view of the great state. We were fortunate enough to have John Hall III as our tour guide and driver. John is the most amazing and accomodating guy. Without a doubt we would book a trip with John Hall's Alaska in a heartbeat. The old adage of you you get what you pay for is certainly true and they are worth every dime.

We really enjoyed our trip to Alaska with John Hall. We recommend them to everyone! We most enjoyed the small group and getting to know our fellow travelers. The land tour was my favorite. And based on our friends taking the small boat cruise we definitely would have chosen that because it was obviously worth the extra money! The celebrity cruise was too “cruisy crowded” and touristy. Much preferred the small stops that were specifically for John Hall group. We’d take the trip to other parts of Alaska! Best trip ever!

Our Three Bears tour was far more than we could have expected and would highly recommend it to all for a great experience. We are looking forward to our Western Nat'l Parks tour this year and know it will be another wonderful trip

I am not certain why we are being asked to write a review two and half years after our trip (August 2018), but since you've asked we'll comment. First off, things did not get off to a good start when after we booked our flight arrangements, the agent in Minneapolis then told us that they could not get us to the airport on time for our return home flight. We booked a flight after 2 p.m. what I believe we were initially told at the seminar and then after booking the agent told us it had to be after 4 p.m. It cost me $200 extra to rebook to a later flight. What was more upsetting is that we actually made it to the airport in time for a 2 p.m. flight and we had to sit around until our red eye flight at 11:30 p.m. Secondly, on the first day when we met our tour guide we were on the train having a conversation about mining in Alaska. I mentioned to our tour guide that after seeing a mining special on the Discovery channel that it appeared to me that the mining operations were destroying big chunks of land. I don't know where this came from but John went off like a rocket, claiming he had a PHD in Geology and that there was no harm being caused to the land and mining was good for the people. I only said that I saw what I saw on the Discovery channel and left it at that. Later, that same day, the tour group transferred to a catamaran. The boat left the dock without us and another couple traveling with us. We were finally able to hale the boat and it did return for us almost an hour later. It was obvious that John did not count the number of guest he was responsible for and he didn't have the boat return until after we had called the main office in Minneapolis and other guest on board told him there were two couples missing. Not once, was there an apology from John or the organization. Thirdly, the salmon feast was a rained out mess and should have been moved elsewhere. It was terrible seeing everyone's dinner ruined. Rain pouring onto their plates as the servers were putting salmon and other items on the plate. We did not eat and our traveling partners threw theirs in the garbage. The remainder of the land trip varied from miserable to enjoyable with endless hours of John rambling on while driving the bus. Some valuable information and other was just John describing how he built the pipeline by himself, about how he managed the Iditarod for years and his father the astronaut. I must admit we debated not tipping for his service, but we did leave the required amount. The boat cruise was just super and kind of made up for a bad land trip. It still bothers me and the others we were traveling with that there was no apology for leaving us behind. Also, it was a pretty expensive trip nearing 15k for two weeks for two. I am not certain the trip was a good value. I gave two stars mostly because of the land trip, the cruise side and the ports we saw were all very exciting and deserve five stars.

This was our first cruise/land tour and could not have been happier. We were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. We were picked up at the air port, got our luggage and that was the last time we handled it until our flight home. Our guides were excellent, fun, and proffessional. Our hotels were excellent. The food was wonderful. We met great people. Some of which we still stay in touch with. We highly recommend John Hall’s. We can’t say enough about what a great company and family they are.

As we haven’t really traveled as of yet, we are super excited to do so! They have been awesome to work with during COVID changes and after hearing so many stories of other travelers challenges with their travel company I am so glad we picked John Hall Alaska!! They are an awesome team! See you in Aug 2021!!!

This was our second trip with John Hall to the Iditarod and Aurora, and it was outstanding and filled with beautiful memories. The group was small enough that personal requests, such as taking us to mass in the middle of Alaska in March, was honored. We felt special and pampered. We ordered many of our meals from the restaurant menu The bus is very comfortable, the driver and tour guide extremely knowledgeable. Except for a few rare instances, there are no extra charges. When I was unable to go on the snowmobiling tour, I was offered a facial in the hotel spa instead. When it was over and I tried to tip them, it was refused as "John Hall took care of it". I could go on and on - a wonderful trip with a great company

My husband and I have been on 127 trips. We rate our National Parks of Alaska tour with John Hall's Alaska our #1 trip. The experience was better than I could have imagined. Their attention to detail meant all we had to do was soak in all the wonderful experiences and let them do everything else. We can now say that we have been to the top of the world, walked among the bears at Katmai National Park, rode on the Alaska Railroad, traveled deep into Denali National Park where we watched the sun go down at midnight. We flew in small planes, traveled in a float plane, spent a day cruising at Kenai Fjords National Park and walked on a glacier and toured a cooper mine at Wrangell St. Elias National Park. How many of your friends can say they did all this and more in one trip? Our motor coach was luxurious, the hotels wonderful, and the food was to die for. (anything you wanted from the menu) The staff is very knowledgeable, friendly and constantly looking for ways to make your trip memorable. Since the Iditarod trip had to be cancelled this year, we are planning on taking both the Iditarod and the Fall Colors Tour in 2022. We can't wait. If you travel with John Hall you will not be disappointed.

John Halls Tours are great. We have gone on two so far. One to Alaska and the second to Australia and New Zealand. Both were outstanding. We are going on two more this year. Hawaii and the western national parks. They are so helpful and friendly when you call and will do everything for you in preparation for the trip. Just sit back and enjoy.

Top-notch service from initial inquiry to getting back home made the Alaska experience incredible. The Grand Slam Tour gave us a broad taste and experience of the many different topography, views and sites Alaska has to offer. The numerous "off the typical tourist stops" made our visit even more enjoyable. The days at the Back Country Lodge was a highlight. Lodging and meals were exceptional. Out tour guides were first rate. The optional walking tours in the coastal communities were very educational both historically and culturally. Several times we had employees of lodges where we stayed comment that touring with John Hall we chose the best.
