I purchased 8 bags of compost from The Range. Terrible quality, none of my seeds have started and plants have died in this product. When watered the compost produced a brown /black tar like substance smelling of diesel and then dried out into a solid lump. The product states organic and peat free, if this was correct I should now have a healthy crop of seedlings to plant out and flowering plants. I fortunately have 1/2 bag left I hope to get consumer tested.
It’s not a compost, not even soil. You can use it instead of weed killers. It made me cry because it killed all of my plants.😭😭 Someone should take this company to the court.
I now understand why there is such a variation in people's reports of this product. I bought 4 bags for £10 from our local branch of the Range, with a view to using them as soil improvers for my clay soil. I found the first three to be very good indeed, especially given the price. The fourth one however must have been one of the batch(es) that has engendered all the negative reports on here, being twiggy, with lengths of straw etc,and giving the impression that the composting process had been finished well before it was complete. Certainly I doubt if any seed sown in it would have grown.
I bought 4 bags and wont be buying anymore, id rather spend £10 a bag on big branded compost, i dont know why but 1 bag smelt of poo (i know its compost but it should smell like soil not poo, that means its not ready yet) and my other 3 bags smell of a petrol/deisel like substance, im glad i have only used it on my 10 cabbages in pots and my what is to be carrot or beets bed because its drying really quickly even outside in the rain, all my cabbage seedlings have died, not worth throwing int canal. To add a good point for the 2 star is that its a good consistancy and there wasnt any plastic or what ever like some reviews :(
I have just purchased 8 bags of the supagrow compost from The Range, 4 for £10.00 until now I haven't had a comparison to the usual well know and recommend compost I've been using for year's, which may I add is 3 times more expensive, the Supagrow is perfect, it's wet and healthy looking, on mixing this into the flower beds I have found nothing untoward, so I haven't a clue what the other people are talking about and I've purchased 8 bags, on some reviews people mention about the smell, but what do they expect! After all this is compost, and I have found it easy to mix into my usual soil,Thank you Supagrow and I for one will not be going back to any other Brands, I hope the Range continues to stock this Brand Please
Not really a review but I would like to have instructions on how soon I can plant seedlings or vegetable plugs after digging in westland farm manure.
killed my seedlings
Filled a new boarder with 20 bags of your topsoil then put the plants in and watered them the soil turned muddy then washed away leaving a sandy muddy mess. Not impressed
I bought 4 bags of topsoil for a border and small extension of lawn. After the first rain it all washed away and only silty sand remained - what awful quality. I emailed the company almost a week ago to complain along with photographs, and unsurprisingly I have not received an acknowledgement or response to my email. I have since dug out the product, bought a better quality and relaid it. I surely will not buy any more products by this company.
What on earth is this made of? The smell is appalling. Its stunk the car out and I've had to store the (unopened) bag outside, it smells so bad. Haven't dared to open it yet, but don't want to return it to the store and put it in the car again! Had planned on using it for some veg plants- but not sure they'd be edible 🤢💩
I have found this product for the price very good..has a good country side farmyard smell to it which is good..ive used as a soil improver in my garden and it works really well..also ive found the cats find it too whiffy to have a dump on..which is a bonus
Appalling quality, appalling service. I gave the company an opportunity to respond, spoke to an employee with a promise that he would , as a gesture of goodwill pay me £20. 4 weeks later after many excuses, NOTHING. The quality of the product is absolutely rubbish. I wish I could send you images that were taken from a few of the 30+ bags I purchased. From rocks, plastic, stones, flushable tissues, just shocking. It won't improve your soil but with kill plants because no nourishment will be there for the roots. PLEASE KEEP AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT/COMPANY.
Do not listen to the responses to the reviews because this product does kill plants. Not sure what’s in it but it’s not a soil improver. It’s killed all my new plants very annoyed.
I found no foreign objects but soil was nice and dark and well composted down and needed no separation. However, I thought as it was labelled as compost it was compost. From reading the packaging later I would class it as a soil improver and just hope my potted on peppers, chillies and cucumbers are not going to die on me.. It was very misleading!
This relates to SupaGrow Turfing and Seeding Soil. This is utter garbage and not fit to put on ANY lawn. This opinion is based on a large purchase of 12 bags from Wickes. The base product is OK, but each bag was full of stick fragments and other rubbish which no-one wants to be scattering on their lawn.
I bought 6 50l bags of this from Homebase. All had small bits of glass in. Quality of the compost is awful and the surface hardens to rock after a few weeks.
I bought 4 bags of organic topsoil and 4 bags of organic compost and I’ve never in my life ever smelt such awful sewage in a bag! It’s the worst quality I’ve ever bought in my life and the stink is absolutely unbearable even after digging it into existing soil, watering and leaving it to air. I can’t even open my windows now let alone sit in the garden. And no it’s not a natural compost smell, it’s not even a manure smell, it’s a raw, sour sewage smell. Don’t ever go near Supagrow products - there’s no way this is “soil” or “compost”, and I can’t believe I’ve actually dug it into my garden leaving me with polluted ground. I’m gutted
Ordered 4 x 50L bags of Organic Garden Compost from The Range. Great price and the quality is superb with no wood or plastic at all. I have spread all 4 bags over my beds and will dig in once it's stopped raining.
Supagrow organic peat free compost - Thought I’d bought a bargain , bag says 50 litres (when filled) Volume may reduce by up to 10%” It also says it has been filled in accordance with the Growing Media Association code of practice for quantity measurement - I asked the GMA a how much I could reasonably expect to get out of a bag filled in accordance with their code of practice once opened and aerated and they said 45 litres plus - so not happy to get less than 25 litres out of a bag - there are lots of comments on various websites complaining about under-filling so you would have thought this would have been addressed by now !

May 13,2024Bought 16 Bags of SupaGrow Organic compost from The Range. The smell is very strong more like manure and more importantly I have planted out some onion sets which were healthy in module trays but once planted with a small amount of this compost the onions have all shrivelled up and look like they are dying. Looking back I now realise why some plants didn’t do so well last year as I used this in tomatoes tubs too. Now left with 15 bags and really don’t want to take the risk of using it.
