Wear gloves when handling. Not sure how this is classed as Organic, found different colours of glass in first 2 bags plus sandwich bag ties, bits of plastic. If it’s too good a deal…
I bought 10 bags from Homebase i was attracted by the cheap price. The compost smelt like burnt rubber tire. Question for SUPAGROW... what is it in the compost that looks super black like a rubber tire and smells like a rubber/ plastic car tire? And the pieces of twigs liok like they have been coated with an black oily substance like tar. I think as customers we deserve to know from SUPAGROW what it is this compost is composed of.
Thought the compost felt well textured, albeit smelly, on initial examination! However, upon use, the product contained fragments of glass and multiple plants that have been in contact with it are now dead or dying! 100% avoid.
This is awful stuff. Everything on my plot that it has touched has either died, is dying or is severely stunted. I dug it in to all of my existing beds and borders and wish I hadn’t. Like other reviewers have found, it smells awful and is full of plastic and glass. Never again.
I had a great experience with this product - looking over some of the reviews I can see the confusion of maybe using it for the wrong purpose however I only know as I work in the industry
I bought this from Homebase - great addition to my existing borders. Really pleased!
' Didnt go in expecting to buy anything for the garden but ended up picking up some topsoil- will share my veggie patch soon'
Bought ten bags of Supagrow organic peat-free compost from Homebase and followed the instructions carefully. Half my wife's new plants are now dying and will have to be replaced (if we can get them this late in the season) after using this vile smelling rubbish with bits of plastic in it.
We bought supagrow organic compost for the first time a couple of weeks ago, firstly the smell is terrible, and when I opened the bag it was grey and extremely hot, I thought it was going to catch fire, I had to spread it out and water it, not what you should have to do, won't be purchasing it again, very disappointed with this product.
I really wish I'd read recent reviews before buying what you believe is good for your soil and plants. Everything that I have planted in this compost has died, which is heartbreaking when you have nurtured everything from seed, and expensive obviously! I will actively avoid all Supagrow products in the future.
we bought ten bags of this compost from Homebase. Dug into my raised bed for my vegetables and mixed it with last year's soil for my hanging basket and potted plants. To my sheer disappointment, all my crops and potted plants are dead within a few days. It smelt awful and was full of plastic, pieces of broken glasses, and twigs. I had high expectations as it said it's organic but now it put me in such an upsetting situation of losing crops and plants which I germinated since march. Two of my established Rose bushes also look droopy and sad since I topped up the soil with this compost. There must be something very wrong with this compost or maybe it lacks nutrition and organic matters. The weight claim seems very deceptive too.
Bought quite a bit of the manure and compost this year (40 bags). Manure needs digging in, as a mulch it dries too quickly and blows away. Compost is reasonable for organic matter and further digging in, only major unwanted discovery has been a large piece of rough glass in a bag of compost. These are really for emptying out in full onto existing beds, certainly not for potting or seed growing etc.
Needed cheap compost and plenty of it. Smells as expected for a product that is composting. No frills, just cheap compost
I bought what I needed using an online calculator but then to realise it nowhere near what I need. I bought some more 2 weeks later and dumped a bag in a 50l tub, sadly I cant add photos, it's more like 30l! It was fluffed up and moist.. how can it lose 20l? I've never seen flies like it in my garden, its horrendous. Bits of bags, sharp plastic in it, it's meant to be organic! It's not far off bark by the texture. One bag was mouldy at the top also. Seems no one likes the stuff, I posted it on a large fb garden group and had so many similar responses. Update: I sent images and I spoke to a chap on the phone, he stated they go out and the pallet it weighed so they know its the correct amount. That can obviously change hugely with water content. He said also he's picked up a bag and compared it to others at the garden centre and again it's clearly has a higher water content being as the bag is smaller. It's still composting so it will reduce as it degrades. From my calculations I should have had 200lt left over from my raised bed, I bought 50 bags in total rom Homebase! I'm guessing I'm still about 800l short! I bought this for the price but when you don't get what you think you're buying this is no bargain at all. I'm not quite sure what the point was in me sending photos and speaking on the phone. He said he would have a chat with someone and I've heard nothing since. 0% customer satisfaction I've taken .y 3stars to 1 star to reflect this!
Got 10 bags from homebase. Lots of plastic bits in it and large twigs. Has a strong boggy smell and was full of flies. Disappointed as the previous 10 bags I got were much better. Update since they replied: Almost all the plants that we planted in this compost have died. The roots don't seem to even grow properly in it. The tray underneath my plants now has an oily rainbow film that has come out from the compost. Also the reply says nothing about the plastic or twigs. I have half composted compost on my own pile so wouldn't buy this if I wanted half composted compost.
Cheap price and amazing quality, couldn’t fault this product from Hombase.
Great buy, mixed it in with my rubbishy existing soil and can already see improvement, highly recommend!
I had a trip to Homebase and fancied doing a garden project whilst the weather is good! This compost has completely changed my borders!!! I’ll send over some images for you.
I bought some of the compost from homebase recently, and shocked at how much this has transformed my soil which was full of clay, feels brand new!

Aug 01,2022Got 4 at The Range. Can't accept the stinky and irritating smell. Also wonder about the volume, the bag is about 70% filled to me, so 35L-40L maximum, not 50L. Regret that I have opened 2 bags to check the quality, otherwise I will return them right away. Also regret not checking consumer's comments before purchasing. More, sorry to know I am not the only one to have such experience with this brand.
