At Village Vet, we pride ourselves on always striving to match the needs of both you and your pet, providing special vets for your special pets
I've witnessed an Irish vet during the night kicking dogs bandaged up. Cruelty upon belief but nothing is done. Violence to animals definitely goes on at this practice. I've lived in Belsize village for 10 years. I've seen graphic abuse to dogs during the early hours.
If you want to pay Blackrock clinic prices for your dog, go here! They charge you for everything, prices are more expensive and quite frankly it is rubbish service, I went to Tallaght and Clondalkin. I could write an essay here on the amount of times they lost tests, charged me a small fortune for an ear infection 150 euro where previous vets would charge for the drops. They charged for a lab and never bothered to give me the results. Also charged me for urine tests when I went with my dog saying I think he has a kidney infection, I was a Month before I got anti biotics because they kept losing the tests. They are joke and charge you a fortune, go to a local small business vet and your animals will be better cared for.
The vets were great but I'm so disappointed in the reception staff. When my cat passed and they were informed by the referral team at DWR, they didn't cancelled the pet plan with me, I then had to tell them to cancel it?! Then they STILL charged me for it the next month. When I called up they were reluctant to do anything and said the accounts team would get in contact. It's really drawn out a horrible experience into something extra stressful. They also sent me through the incorrect pet's bills when I needed them for the insurance and were just overall quite insensitive about the whole experience of losing my pet. They were rude sometimes, told me my flea drops were ready when they weren't making me make unnecessary trips out to pick it up, no apologies made. I would not recommend them for somewhere that is compassionate and caring. The vet care was good, however, can't fault the vets or nurses at Whittlesford.
The worst vet ever!!!! All they want is your money, ZERO care for your dog!! If you are thinking to sign up with these guys, DON'T!! Look for a private vet which is actually ONE person, one vet and not a money hungry chain. I've been with them for 3 years now, every single time I go there, they are very arrogant and not happy to help you at all! They act like they are doing me a favor even tho I am paying them every month. The vets are very young and no experience. Every time I go there I leave pissed off and annoyed by them. All they want is MONEY MONEY MONEY in return they give you no care, no attention to the poor animal. They say they have an emergency service included in my package!!! Dont fall for this, this is all bullsh*t and just another way for them to charge you TRIPLE if god forbid something happens to your dog. I don't recommend this vet at all!!!
They were there for my elderly little girl in my time of need and excellent. They worked with me and my budget and the front desk was really caring and spoke to me about their preventative care payment plan which makes it more manageable. The vets were really great w my girl and reassured me all the way. Finally my 18 year old cat is back to herself (for now!). They are open MWF only, and if you need emergency care, you need to go to St John's Wood!
Unfortunately vets keep leaving. As advertised I discussed my dogs itchy paws and before the vet even looked at my dogs paws she discussed money. On the whole it has been great but the constant change of vets made me leave.
Went here today to microchip identify a dog that I found on the streets the previous night. My friend called the place earlier about bringing the dog in, and they said they will call me for a slot but they never did. I walked in on my own, and everyone was nice except the lead receptionist, who was cold from the start and kept dismissing anything I said about finding the dog. Found this weird, but thought it was just a personal behaviour. After her identifying and ringing the owner, I asked if I may know the name of the dog I had sheltered, and I was told I can't know any details because it is protocol. Harsh, but that's her call. I waited for the owner to come about so I can bid my goodbye to the little one. The owner wasnt excited to see the dog and vice versa. I was chatting about how they lost the sweet dog and she asked where I found her, and the same lady from the reception barges out shouting "is everything okay?" to the owner as if I was the problem. This behaviour was completely uncalled for, and definitely had racist tones. Please tell me, why is a brown man bringing in a lost dog, taking the pain, time, loss of sleep, and expenses of it all, seemingly suspicious and evoking hostility in you? I thanked them while leaving and mentioned calmly that the owner doesn't even seem too happy with the reunion, and she dismissed me again as if I was a nuisance, saying "you're overthinking, this happens all the time even to my dog. The dog was happy seeing the owner didnt you see that? Have a good evening" to cut me off, to which I had to respond I'm thinking right, probably you arent. And also, you're not a good person if your dog keeps running out "all the time". What a terrible person to be the face of a vet clinic. I wonder if any other person of colour had a similar experience with this lady. It is 2024 for God's sake, that too in London of all the places, for you to be hostile against people of colour due to your prejudice. No amount of sensitivity training and recalibration can remove the bias and latent racism in such people. Utterly disappointing and disgusting.
The vets do not provide a good service, you get the feeling there is a lot of profiteering going on. They are not connected within their own network, chasing results instead of being contacted. Disappointed to say the least as it is very expensive and they try to sell you more and more rather than actually worrying about your pet
Profiteering nightmare My dog had bad cut on leg. First visit £195 for cleaning, superglue cut and banadage. Follow up wound check, 10 mins to check and redress (sticky plaster and bandage) £120.87. No invoice given so requested this and cost of materials was £64.87 (consultation was £56) Outrageous for a bit of bandage and a plaster. Will be changing vets immediately.
Wanted to change my vet called Winchmore Hill Village Vet. They said they had my pet plan policy there and I was a known customer and would be charged on pet plan insurance.... On the day the veterinary doctor told me no problems and they would charge petplan.... 30 minutes later I got a call demanding the money right away was sent a payment email... I thought ok no problem I will pay and they said they would make the claim for me and refund my money... 2 months down the line and all I hear is the person that does claims was back logged...was on holiday..never works when I call.... ABSOLUTE SHAMBLES IF YOU WANT TO GET ROBBED GO HERE.
Wow Dom, you got away lightly mate. My wife has 2 rats and one developed a nasty sore on her head, possibly fighting with the other one. Left it a couple of days but didn't seem to be healing. I've used the same Village vet a couple of years ago with my other rats so, she took it to them again. Took the Rat into the vet, he tried to get her out but to no avail, didn't even hold her, well, no problem, he's a vet he knows what he's doing and told me he would give me some ointment to put on at home. He then said, " I think this will work on Rats, it's for Dogs"!!! What? 5 mins later, went to the reception desk......." That will be.....wait for it ...£98 please?" Nobody wants to look an idiot so I paid and left, got back in the car and went home furious. If you are rich, by all means use them but?
I am a long established, high star rated licensed dog breeder. One of my beloved dogs had a terrible whelping and we took her to the out of hours vet (Village Vet) through the phone service of my regular vet. I was asked to pay £800 before they even looked at her. I then received a call saying there was a new estimate of £6k. After I gasped I was told it could be lower maybe £4k but she may not survive anyway. Who uses a sick, distressed animal as a bargaining tool? Whilst this is going on she’s laying there suffering. I felt I had no choice but to have her PTS. When we arrived at the practice we were met with an abrupt receptionist with a total lack of compassion. Not to mention feeling like emotional blackmail with our sick dog from the vet I spoke to.. Never again.
I do not recommend! Horrendous experience with my dog who got injured by a car. Telling me that they didn’t have the equipment and I had to go to another village vet. Extremely overpriced! He didn’t get checked by one vet and gave me an estimate of £2000. I took my dog to Blue Cross Victoria and they were absolutely amazing. Cost £30
We have used two Village Vets over the last 5 years. And they are the kings and queens of mark-up. Their medication costs are 3 times the cost online and they charge the earth. £70 consult for anything, £65 for a follow up. Every time you walk out of the surgery you are at a minumum £200 worse off, no matter what it is. Demand prescriptions so you can shop online for the same meds. In times of financial hardship they are profiteering it seems.
To see how caring about they animals they treat, My little dog was having a breathing problem and not eating, and it was really stressing me out, Couldn't get an appointment at my usual vet, so rang Local village vet Goldhawk Road, The wonderful receptionist arranged an appointment , for that afternoon, and such a lovely vet who did the consultation. all very plesant staff.
I've been with this vets for a number of years and knew they were expensive. But my recent experience was gobsmacking..... I wanted to get an indication of whether my puppy was ok for spaying. We went to the consultation room the vet played with the dog for ~5 mins, checked a chart and stated that the dog was too young, please come back once they are over 1 year old. The whole thing took 7 mins. The receptionist tried to charge me £61. This equates to +£500/hr....
Our little dog got her tail caught in the hall door on Saturday afternoon (hall door slammed as back door was opened 😢). Poor dog yelped & pee’d herself with fright. Immediately we brought her to our local vet, whom we’re registered with & are on a monthly pet plan. The tail was split, bleeding & bone was visible. We arrived to the vets at 5.06pm, unaware they close at 5pm. The closed sign was up but one of the vets & veterinary nurse were at the front desk, i gestured to ask them to come to the door. Myself & my husband stood at the glass door where they could clearly see me holding our little dog in my arms covered in a blanket & loosing blood. The vet came to the door, opened it slightly & told me they were closed. I pointed to Mollys tail & explained what had happened & again she told me they were closed, I pleaded with her to have a quick look at her & she point blank refused using the excuse that they’re computers were switched off & that they were already running late to finish up. This particular vet knew us as our dog has attended her several times but this time it was as clear as day that she didn’t care less & just wanted to get home. I understand that she had done a full days work & was probably tired and that she has a life outside her job but there was zero compassion or care. When we pleaded again for help, she told us to contact another branch of their practice in Clonsilla that were opened until 6pm. She assured us that they would definitely see us if we were there before 6pm. So we left….without anyone looking at her wound, assessing it or giving her any pain relief. On the way to clonsilla I phoned them to confirm that they would see her as advised by the Shantalla Road Branch but unfortunately I was told no that they had to be out by 6pm, I explained that the branch on Shantalla Road had told us if we get there before 6pm that she would be seen but I was told that’s not the case. The receptionist checked it with someone else and said no that they would be locking up at 6pm so they wouldn’t have time to do an X-ray, when I asked for advice on where to go, she advised me to go to UCD veterinary hospital which we did. In UCD at first they thought the tail was broken or nerve endings were damaged & would require amputation but luckily for Molly this wasn’t the case. Her tail was split on both sides, so they sedated her and stitched her up. She’s now on antibiotics, anti inflammatories & pain killers but is doing well. I have since contacted Village Vets and have cancelled our contract with them. I understand we were 6 minutes outside of their closing time but I cannot understand how people who are supposed to care about animals can simply ignore an injured animal in front of them without even looking at or accessing them, completely inhumane. Mollys tail was in a very bad way, the cut was so deep the bone was visible (up to this I didn’t realise that the tail had a bone, I actually thought it was just cartilage). We have since moved to a lovely, caring independent vets instead of supporting these chains that only care about the money and not care. There’s been a couple to times over the last 2years while attending village vet’s beaumont that haven’t sat well me, such as stories I’ve heard from other people and things I’ve overheard while in there but I chose to ignore them. My advice to anyone is if when it comes to your pets if something doesn’t sit well with you with your vets, then jump ship because to a lot of these chains & franchises it’s just a business with their priorities being money first & care of the animal being way down the list
Murderers.
Couldn't have asked for better care when my chihuahua was admitted with breathing difficulties. She ended up staying for 3 days and I was informed of her progress every step of the way. They even liaised with my pet insurance company which put my mind at ease. Thanks to Dr Helen, Jade, and all of the wonderful team.
