Sep 07,2024I was in the process of selling my house and the buyer requested a damp survey as it was an older house. I had had a new dpc a few years earlier and had had it checked again before putting the house on the market. The walls were still dry and the dpc had 13 years on the guarantee. The buyer instructed Allerton to come do the survey. The man who arrived was very polite and pleasant and I left him to check the walls. I should have watched exactly what he was doing. When the survey/quote was sent to the buyer it came out at a staggering £7000. I asked to see the results as it worried me that there was such a huge damp problem and I hadn't seen any signs of it! The surveyor had marked several interior walls that were bone dry as needing damp proofing! The quote lead to the buyer pulling out of the chain as she said she couldn't afford another £7000. I got the company who did my dpc to come back out again to check the interior walls as I'd never had a problem on those walls and I watched as they checked and saw that they were showing as completely dry on the moisture device. The guy said that Allerton were well known in the industry for ripping people off and he had done some work with them before and saw first-hand how they work. He couldn't believe the quote that had been sent through. There was one wall in the pantry that was showing raised moisture levels but he said that would be around the £2k mark to fix purely because it was an awkward space to work in. I was very lucky in that the chain didn't collapse due to getting another buyer very quickly but the ridiculous quote from Allerton could have had a much worse effect in difference circumstances!!

Aug 08,2024Simon and Kevin were very pleasant, polite and efficient in completing the work. They kept me informed of progress and of any issues that arose. They installed the protection to the floor and surfaces with great care and due consideration to the progress of the work and if any additional areas were required. I was very pleased with the manner in which they refitted the skirting boards which also made for a good tidy job. They were very diligent in clearing up any waste materials and general debris and left all areas of work in a clean and tidy state.

Aug 08,2024Allerton recently remedied some damp issues in our kitchen for us which resulted from rising damp. Very professional, did a great job. Happy to explain what they were doing and keep us informed as they went along. Graden did a lovely job of skimming the wall back in where they'd done the work. Other than needing to wait to paint it, you'd never know they'd been there. Definitely not the cheapest option, but you get what you pay for with damp works, and we definitely had a good experience.
