This was a great class. It really opened my eyes to think outside the box. There needs to be more training on this subject with officers so we can better identify and know how to deal with someone on the spectrum, not just for liability purposes but also to be able to show more compassion and be more utilitarian

I have had some training in Autism prior to attending. This course added so much more because it came from someone who is on all sides.

As a crucial part of my community role, I am unwavering in my commitment to educating and advocating, as well as connecting families and individuals to essential resources. The augmentation of my knowledge primarily originates from thorough research and my active involvement in extensive educational programs. Despite not being a first responder, I had the extraordinary opportunity to attend the Blue Bridge Autism Training for First Responders. This experience provided a priceless, firsthand understanding that books or videos could never fully convey. It shed light on the shared vulnerability of parents with children in the autism spectrum and Law Enforcement, reinforcing the idea that a parent's concern for their child is a universal experience. Retired Captain, Jerry Turning, delivers his wealth of knowledge and experience in Law Enforcement not solely as part of a training program, but from a place of genuine, heartfelt advocacy; undoubtedly, dual advocacy at its finest. Speaking as a father, Turning passionately strives to protect his child and other children within the autism spectrum. Additionally, he aims to enlighten us about the potential challenges these individuals and their families may face with law enforcement. These issues can extend beyond simple misunderstandings from the average person, especially if our community and law enforcement lack the proper training to deal with individuals within the spectrum as they transition into adulthood. His authentic advocacy serves as a testament to his profound determination to ensure the safety and comprehensive understanding of all individuals with autism. My deepest gratitude goes to everyone who played a part in making this free training possible to the community. The skills imparted through this program could potentially be lifesaving for young adults within the autism spectrum.

The training is fantastic. As an instructor taking classes it’s easy to buy in and believe if the instructor has that vested interest in the topic not teaching from a slide.

I recently attended a class given by Gerald Turning in Lake City, FL and found it to be extremely informative. The non-verbal quick communication guides provided and tips for investigating missing persons with autism will pay dividends for me in the future.

Captain Turning did a sensational job giving information that will help me to evaluate situations when coming into contact with folks who deal with Autism from a work perspective. Further, I feel like his personal experience allowed me to become glued into his teaching because it was mostly all first-hand knowledge that he was sharing and he wasn't afraid to get too personal and share even his emotion and shortcomings in situations and how he learned from them. I think more importantly, this gave me a new perspective not just for work but in life. I can now better understand the different aspects of Autism and how it can show in any number of ways. It is a great feeling to gain perspective and I feel much better equipped to come into contact with people with Autism in my everyday life. I would highly recommend this course to anyone, not just emergency responders. The lesson is well thought out and covers all topics well. This was truly the most informative, and I would say, best training that I have ever received that I have sought out myself. Thank you Captain!

Great material for the law enforcement side of things to be aware of with individuals we approach on the street and how to handle individuals on the spectrum when we're looking for them or simply run into them doing our duties.

I think Jerry having real-life parenting experience and also bringing the LEO perspective to the table was a plus. He used humor as well as other emotions to captivate me. He did not try to downplay either role or point out either as the correct party. He represented both sides and tried to help us find a solution. I thought this training was fantastic!

Mr. Turning is a great speaker/instructor. He is passionate about his field. He keeps listeners engaged. He shared personal experiences allowing others to understand the importance of autism; including, signs/symptoms and how to engage to provide care/comfort and treatment.

Such an eye opening, humbling educational experience! Receiving education on the "why's" of the actions, the motions, sounds, just everything was positively fascinating and has given me an understanding I wish everyone could have. I thought I knew a good bit, enough about autism... I knew nothing but I left the training with such a positive, understanding and craving to know and understand more. The facts provided, the reasoning and explanation of "why", the education combined with the personal stories and examples made the information relatable and personal. I could have listened and learned ALL day. Very engaging! I'm thankful I was able to participate in the training and would definitely recommend that any and everyone who has the possibility to attend do so! Thank you so much!
