Jan 28,2025I started using Howdens in 2019 and maintained an Aviva policy through them up until 2025. Despite my family rarely using the policy (which had numerous exclusions and excesses), the cost skyrocketed. What began as £135/month ballooned to £355/month by 2025, a shocking 17.5% annual increase on average. This far outpaces inflation and leaves me wondering what value they were actually adding. The renewal process is passive and seems designed to make you complacent. They rely on direct debits to auto-renew policies, so you have to be proactive about exploring alternatives. I’m frustrated with myself for trusting them and not catching this earlier. My advice? Skip third-party brokers and go directly to healthcare providers. I’ve since switched to WPA, which I found to be the best value. It’s also worth noting that Which? rates WPA as the top provider. If you must use an agent, be cautious with auto-renewals and always review your options at renewal.
