Apr 27,2021Turning to public shaming to get a straight answer. I gave notice that I was leaving a rental at the end of my lease, but was told I needed to pay $220 for breaking the lease, even though it had ended. Then Jellis Craig offered me a renewal of the ended lease in a seperate email. After a lot of chasing up, I was told that it had already been finalised, but now my old housemates are saying $220 has been taken out of their rent three months later? Really poor communication, really badly handled, and personally, I think a $220 fee for "breaking a lease" that has already ended is pretty ridiculous - especially since my former housemates haven't even received a new lease, and the charge wouldn't apply if we had all moved out together at the end of the lease. How exactly is this charge even justified?
