Quality experiences – large and small – set John Hall’s Alaska apart. In operation since 1982, nobody covers more of Alaska or provides a more enriched small-group experience. As a small family-owned and operated tour company with a passion for Alaska, personal attention, exclusive remote access, immersive cultural encounters, and included meals and activities are hallmarks of the John Hall’s Alaska experience.

These guided tours travel to all five regions of Alaska – the Artic, Inside Passage, Interior, Southcentral, and Southwest – and with group sizes ranging from only 24 to 40 guests, John Hall’s Alaska provides a more intimate “real” Alaska experience. Wildlife encounters, native cultural experiences, behind-the-scenes access, outdoor activities, and the finest lodging in Alaska are highlights of every departure. Combined tour offerings feature six of Alaska’s eight national parks and optional trips to the other two can be added before or after any scheduled tour.

Depending on the itinerary, guests explore via a wide range of transportation modes such as luxury motorcoach, small aircraft, GoldStar first-class rail service, and small private charter vessels. To ensure the highest level of comfort, John Hall’s Alaska operates and maintains a custom-built fleet of spacious MCI motorcoaches that represent the best on the roads of Alaska. John Hall's Alaska provides the complete package. Every meal is covered. All transportation during the tour is taken care of, and assistance is provided unless not allowed. Their tours cover all major attractions available in the areas visited, and many unique, less known experiences also. All expected gratuities are covered. The only gratuity not covered is for the John Hall's representative who accompanies and oversees the tour. This was the 10th tour we have taken with them. It was to South Africa, and the accommodations, sites visited, and transportation were all as expected. We started in South Africa, but also went up to Zimbabwe to see Victoria Falls, and to Namibia to cruise the Chobe River with its abundant wildlife. In South Africa, we started off in Capetown. One unexpected tour was to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was held for many years. Another unexpected stop was to see the Penguins at Simonstown on the coast. One extra special dining experience in Capetown was to Gold, where native dishes, a Dzembi (?) drum lesson, native dances and songs filled the evening. Following Capetown, multiple jeep "game" rides were the highlights at the Shamwari and Oceana private game preserves. Our accomodations were top of the line at both preserves. The food selections at Oceana were not always to my liking, but the service was good and the views were stunning. Victoria Falls and the grand old Victoria Falls Hotel were wonderful. And the last leg of the tour of three nights on the Zambezi Queen riverboat on the Chobe River was a fitting highlight to our experience. Multiple water-based safaris each day brought us up close to a variety of animals: elephants, hippos, giraffes, water buffaloes, crocodiles, lions, ... In short we saw in abundance what one hopes to experience on a tour in Africa. One unexpected highlight was a visit to the local village on the river of one of the crew members. We were escorted around by a villager, and then treated to a performance by the village at their modest enclosure around the tree of life in their village. It was a humbling experience.

Our trip with John Hall's Alaska to South Africa was an absolute trip of a lifetime!!! It was an outstanding itinerary - What a start with the first day going to Robben Island with Christo Brand as our tour guide. It was awesome seeing the sights of South Africa including Cape Town, Cape Point, Plettenburg Bay, and the southern most point of the African Continent where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. The wildlife experiences at the private Shamwari and Oceana game preserves were unforgettable!!! We continued on our adventure at Victoria Falls (waterfalls, Bushtracks train and Zambezi River Cruise). I will never forget going back to the Victoria Falls hotel and the bus having to stop for an elephant in the road. We then traveled through four countries to Namibia. We boarded the luxury Zambezi Queen for unforgettable wildlife experiences on the Chobe River. Wow - within 10 feet of African Elephants. Lastly to finish our trip in Johannesburg and take a tour of Soweto to learn more about the incredible life of Nelson Mandela! Every hotel and resort we stayed in were some of the nicest 5-star hotels we have ever experienced. The food and service were outstanding.

We had a first class trip to South Africa, April 2023. From the start they helped us with the registration, requirements, etc. Wonderful staff to work with. On the trip our itinerary covered all the important areas to visit. Scenery, history, culture, etc. Had very knowledgeable guides and very informative. The accommodations where awesome and the variety of local foods were enjoyed by us. Great menus to choose from. We learned so much about the game reserves and viewing animals up close. What an experience. Seeing other countries and their culture and customs was such a good eye opener. We loved every minute of that trip and can't think of a single "negative" comment. Thank you, John Hall's, for ALWAYS giving us a 5 star trip wherever we travel in the world.

rcompznt personnel were outstanding but John not quite honest in presentations about lengthy bus rides and our exposure to covid being in long bus rides which about 20 of us tested positive at the end of the tour plus bus driver always driving one handed!!

Through no fault of JHA, my wife and I experienced half of the Grand Slam Alaska Tour. However, we saw some very great sights of Alaska during that time, as this is a very well organized Tour. An incredible number of logistics get handled seamlessly for the tour group to make it all enjoyable. This dedication to handling everything for every guest turned-out to be a huge benefit for me and my wife. Getting COVID at the mid-point, needing medical care and quarantine could have been a nightmare being 4,000 miles from home. Instead we found that JHA's COO and staff did everything possible to handle anything we needed; including getting us to a medical facility and treatment. We were very grateful for that. And it enabled us to rejoin the group and our friends for the return home on time. That was a Big Deal and a relief for us.

First class all the way! Customer service above and beyond expectations. The 101 Fall Colors tour is the trip of a lifetime, seeing Alaska, driving the Alaska Highway from one end to the other, through the Canadian Rockies then on into Seattle. Since it was the 40th Anniversary, the real treat was having John Sr as our guide, and son Joe as our driver.

John Hall's Alaska employees from the initial booking of the trip until the end of the actual tour were helpful, knowledgeable and gave exemplary service at every interaction. Everyone went out of their way to make us feel like family and expressed their appreciation that we had chosen to travel with their company.

Jeremy was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about what we were saying and doing. When I fell ill, he made sure to find a clinic to treat me. All of the employees that we came in contact with on our trip were friendly and went out of their way to assist us. Accommodations and meals were good except for Denali where the cabins left something to be desired. Operations out Juneau were good although the weather was uncooperative. Juneau time could be pared one day as it seemed as if we were doing a lot of the same things just a different day.

We have traveled with JHA 5 times to date. Every experience has been top notch. We were skeptical before our first trip, by the 3 or 4 day of that first experience, we felt like "family" and found our niche. By the end of the first trip, we were elated not just by the adventure, but the service provided by the JHA team. We arrived home planning for our next adventure. We have been on tours with a couple of other companies in between our JHA adventures, while the tours were nice, they fell short of the product JHA provided.
