This is a parent review. Our son had an amazing time in Thailand, summer 2019. Oyster worldwide was efficient and helpful with taking care of every detail to ensure that our son had the best experience and was safe at all times. However, this is not a beach holiday. There is a clear structure to the day with early morning dives gathering data, taking photos, reef cleanups. In the afternoons there are sessions to analyse the data. The accommodation was basic and he had to make sure he fed himself. There were lots of cheap and tasty local restaurants that over looked the sea that provided most meals. The village is a typical old fashioned fishing town and is certainly no wild night life! You are very independent and at the weekends you are able to explore the island with the other volunteers. Our son was the youngest and only βboyβ volunteering and had the chance to work with interns from all around the world. Coresea is a great research program and Oyster worldwide was completely ontop of this project with lots of feedback and support whilst he was there. Can highly recommend them.
I'm so glad that I decided to go there to volunteer. People are so nice and kind. Of course, bears and other animals there are so cute too. I really want to go back there again!
The support from MyOyster was great, the Website had a very organized structure so it was easy to know what I had to do and buy before the trip. I wasnβt always 100% satisfied and happy with the project where I was at but all in all it was very good.
Oyster Worldwide provided great amounts of useful information to me and made the whole booking process as well as the trip itself very easy and enjoyable.
Oyster was instrumental in making sure that my wife and I found the right program for our interests and goals. We wanted to work with a project doing critical hands-on work to help the wildlife of Borneo, and they set us up with an organization doing just that on the Kinabatangan River in Sabah. Our liaison at Oyster, Anne, either answered all of our questions promptly or contacted the field organization and got back to us quickly. We were more prepared life on the ground when we got there because we had such a good line of communication from our first inquiry. We also had an unforgettable experience seeing and helping wildlife like orangutans, proboscis monkeys, seven species of hornbills, and even an Asian elephant. We'll definitely use Oyster again if we're looking for more conservation volunteer opportunities around the world.
Had a great experience with oyster. Anne was so helpful and her replies were always fast which helps. Everything about oyster ensures that you are travelling in a safe way
Highly recommended! We had a brilliant experience with Oyster from our first initial contact to the end of our trip. My teenage son and I opted for the turtle conservation project in Costa Rica. It was a truly life-changing experience for both of us! The team at Oyster HQ and on the project were fantastic and everything was well organised and we felt safe throughout. We're looking forward to our next trip with Oyster as soon as possible!
A fantastic and varied volunteering experience that far exceeded my expectations. I cannot fault Oyster for their organisation and communications. I'm recommending them to everyone!
From the very start Oyster provided loads of information all of which was useful. Any e mails were answered quickly and there were phone calls to ensure all went smoothly. Even whilst away contact was maintained via e mail. The holiday/volunteering was fabulous with great accommodation and facilities and a fantastic experience for me. We had a really knowledgable group leader and there was a volunteer coordinator on site who really helped resolving any small issues. On return the support continued with post experience advice ad support. The company made me feel very safe and fully informed. Special thanks go to Ann and Laurie.
The Oyster team cover pretty much every angle; they are organized, supportive, friendly, well informed about the programs you get involved in and confident about where they are sending you. They are great with follow up and do honestly care that you have a good time and get as much out of your experience as possible. They were a great organization to work with, and I hope to have to opportunity to do so again in the future.
I booked a medical internship in Romania with Oyster, and they did an excellent job arranging everything from accommodation to volunteer work. I had everything on quite a tight schedule, but Anne was helpful and she helped streamline the process, answered my enquiries quickly and sent me regular reminders for the documents as well. The post-trip follow-up, which included recommendations in case you needed one, is also well done. Would highly recommend.
We found and booked a volunteering trip with oyster and they made the whole process very easy. There was support from beginning to end of our trip - and lots of well-received help when we had to postpone our original trip for one year. When we had questions in the run up to the trip Georgie at oyster answered promptly and with lots of detail. We would highly recommended if you're planning that type of trip for the first time!
Contact with Oyster was efficient, they were helpful when needed. But the actual value for money was terrible. Spent just under Β£1000 on 'helping me settle' in Sydney, Australia. The actual value was less than Β£500. I thought I would 'have an instant social life on arrival by joining a group of like-minded young travellers', this wasn't true as Oyster outsourced to third party companies which meant that there was no guarantee to have an instant social scene. I did enjoy the surfing weekend and the blue mountain tour but still was not value for money, for the same price I could have got a surf camp for a week. The package also included a work n holiday basic package, with was pretty useless. The hostel Oyster booked me with was nice but nothing special. Overall, maybe I was a bit naive in what I thought the package was going to have but I feel that I was mislead in the value of the package and cannot stress enough to NOT BUY the Australia package. Everything they arranged are things you can do yourself for a cheaper price and better quality.
Oyster Worldwide is a wonderful company, who effortlessly work to make sure that your experience is everything you want it to be. All you need to do is be communicative, honest, and readily available, and they will work everything out for you. They are willing to answer any questions, solve any issues, and take any feedback, so do so!
The help pre departure was amazing. Anne would email me to remind me that I still had forms to fill out online. I was given every contact number I would need while I was out there and told what to do if anything happened to go wrong.
As a family we ration our flying for climate change reasons, so when we do fly we want to do some meaningful on our trip. After searching for volunteer opportunities, we were excited at the chance to help with the Turtle Trax conservation project in Costa Rica. Anne at Oyster was brilliant at answering all our questions beforehand - including full transparency on where our money would go (the bulk of it to the project and local people) - and the lovely local team were equally supportive while we were there. We had a fabulous time at the centre itself as well as volunteering to help tree planting at the local school and visiting other villages. And of course the location and wildlife were stunning, providing much enjoyment during our downtime. Special mention and big thanks to the local ladies who fed us sumptuously with simple but delicious freshly cooked food everyday.
Very good website and organisation informing you on the most updated Information in regards to the project of your choice, the location of the project and other important things. Lots of ways to keep in touch in case you have any troubles or need advice along the way. Would recommend
The staff at Oyster was very helpful with all my questions. I worked with several different people due to vacation schedules, but they didn't miss a beat! Someone always responded quickly to my emails and kept me informed the whole way through the process.
Oyster were absolutely amazing when i did my two month course in South Africa! Georgie helped me through the whole process and made sure i felt comfortable throughout the whole experience which i meant i was never that nervous and i was excited the whole time! Oyster made it a seamless trip for me and it was the best two months of my life! Big thanks to Oyster for allowing me this life changing experience! i will definitely be using them again!

May 29,2020The review is written by Manon's mother ! Since many years, we were waiting that Manon would have been able to participate to the Vet Programm in South Africa. When she turned out 17, we signed up for the programm and she did it at the age of just 17. She travelled alone and integrated herself into a group of strangers, who soon became friends, of all ages and from all over the world- and all in the medium of English. The programme and all interactions were conducted in English, and Manon learned a lot from directly working with the vet and programme staff on a one on one basis. She was the youngest participant. She was in a Big 5 game reserve that including a rehabilitation to care about animals but also into their wildlife. Manon was working 3 afternoon a Week with the Vet and did the following tasks: β’ Practical health checks β’ Checking for parasites, diseases and injuries β’ Monitoring behaviour and well-being of animals in the reserve and in rehabilitation β’ Basic dart gun training and possible darting of animals in the reserve β’ Fence patrols and game drives β’ Feeding and caring for the animals in the rehabilitation area She also helped with the removal of invasive species and planting trees. Additionally, she joined a school feeding programme in the local school, where she was able to meet the local children and learn more about life in South Africa. Manon was so happy to go every thursday at the local school. Before arriving there, they were stopping into a small shop, where participants were proposed to buy some foods for children with their spending money. This was really rewarding for Manon. When she was not working with the Vet, she was included into another programm of Wild Cat. She feeded animals etc... and made several Safaries (Sunrise and Sunset) From the start to its end, Anna from Oyster guided us. She was super reactive and brought a lot of advice, her assistance throughout the programm was really helpful. Manon is French and I would hightly recommend this program also to foreign young people as it will also reinforce your English skills. Many thanks to Oyster team for this amazing and rewarding experience. You are the best
