I booked the big 5 wildlife experience through oyster and can say it has been the best experience of my life, I saw some amazing places and animals and made friends for life. Oyster was very helpful at making me well prepared and know what to expect throughout the trip, I can’t thank them enough! Will definitely be booking through them again in the future.
I'm going to have my first experience in Nepal with oyster worldwide, and Oyster made me really safe for this travel! Jon has been very helpful and always available for any question. Thanks a lot Jon, I can't wait to start my mission.!!
We have recently returned from a months adventure travelling around Costa Rica, two weeks were spent on a Turtle Conservation project in the Nicoya Peninsular organised through Oyster Worldwide. It was a truly amazing experience for the whole family, my three little girls are 7,10 & 12 years old and we all got stuck in with all the tasks needed - from weekly beach cleans, sorting out the plastic collected for recycling, equipment cleaning, washing up and measuring the rain gauge as well as the all important nighttime turtle patrols. We walked the beach every night for 2 wks, up to 3 hrs at a time and at different slots. Over the period we witnessed turtles laying eggs, doing the 'turtle dance' and returning to the sea. My children had the chance to collect the eggs and then rebury them in the hatchery. We were lucky enough to see the Milky Way, shooting stars and one morning at 6am we received a knock on the door to run to the beach and see hundreds of baby turtles leave a nest on the beach and walk into the sea, it was magical. The staff at the project were truly fantastic, wonderful to our children and gave us many opportunities to experience additional things such as a Mangrove boat tour, a trip to a local fishing village, be a spectator at a local football tournament in another village one Sunday, visit a school's end of year talent show plus we also got to plant native trees in a nearby playground plus work in a nursery attached to Turtle Trax office, where my husband also helped build a porch. All these additional activities and experiences gave us a better understanding and love of Costa Rica and was greatly appreciated plus it was very educational for my children. It was certainly not a cheap family holiday, but it was truly the adventure and experience of a lifetime and worth it for the amount the kids learnt and got out of it. Oyster were supportive beforehand and because we were doing some independent travelling before, were helpful in arranging collection from a different pick up point which enabled us to have flexibilty and see a bit more of the country.Thank you to Oyster, Turtle Trax & Crema for a very special family experience, we will never forget it .
Oyster are a great company with helpful staff, all the information was clear and accessible. For my Big 5 trip to South Africa I had Georgie as my advisor, Georgie was really efficient and always quick to help with anything that I needed. I had the trip of a lifetime and I would most definitely recommend Oyster :)
I had a wonderful time in Pokhara! I travelled with my sister to Pokhara to volunteer on the women's empowerment programme. We were well prepared, Oyster Worldwide made sure that we were fully equipped and ready to start our adventure. In Nepal, everything went smooth and we received a very warm welcome from the GVI staff, who are affiliated to Oyster Worldwide. The staff members but also the other volunteers were incredible people who helped me see the world with different eyes. It was nice to have meaningful chats and wonderful exchanges. Even though we all came from different places, we were all looking in the same direction. The project was incredibly inspiring for my future career. We worked with women of all ages. These women were very grateful and also so genuinely funny. Their levels of English varied, which made work even more interesting. I could honestly write about so much and I have nothing but praise for this programme and my experience there. Except for the weather- but then again, it's been the first time in years that I got a tan! Thank you, Oyster Worldwide!
As a first time independent traveler and volunteer. Oyster made it hassle free to get all the required under 18 documentation and throughout the whole process I felt that Anne was there if I every needed her help. Even when problems occurred, the team still managed to stay reasoned and friendly. Overall I had an amazing experience and I'm glad I had this opportunity!
This was the first time I had taken my 10 year old on a volunteering project and so I wanted a really reliable and professional company to help us do this as safely as possible, particularly as we wanted to go to a developing country which I was a bit nervous about. We weren’t disappointed, we were fully supported and we have just come back from having the experience of a lifetime! We learnt so many new skills (how to care for monkeys, baboons, ostriches, bush babys and other animals, team work skills, machete-handling skills (!) and so much more. My 10 year old has never worked so hard in her life and she can’t wait to go back again to volunteer for a longer period! Thank you Oyster for facilitating our experience of a lifetime!
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to support a group of young people helping them to get a head start with their medical degrees through gaining medical work experience in New Delhi as medical volunteers. Not only did the young people get to experience real life in a variety of different hospital departments, (including getting to view real operations!), they also got to experience epic Indian culture, cuisine and historical sites, (including the Taj Mahal).
Honestly, the best 2 weeks of my life. Everyday I woke up with a smile on my face ready for the day. What made my time amazing wasn't just the bears, it was Razvan and the other volunteers, who were very supportive, and kindhearted making me feel very welcome into the country. I was quite nervous when I first arrived, with it being the first time traveling abroad alone, but Razvan and the others made me fit right in (: Although the work may sometimes be quite repetitive, like peeling corn for 3 hours or so, those hours are some of the best 3 hours, as we were talking with eachother, cracking jokes, and watching the bear Bridgette, who's enclosure is just infront of the food prep building. The only thing which would have been amazing to do, is to be the ones to feed the bears like with the spade. But I completely understand if that job is for staff only. Still exceptionally rewarding watching them enjoying the food we prepared for them (: Thank you for an amazing stay!!!
This was my first time doing any sort of independent travelling so I was pretty nervous beforehand - but Oyster provided me with so much support, making sure that I had nothing to worry about. I was volunteering at an elephant sanctuary in Thailand for 4 weeks, followed by a 2 week tour of Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. Everything went perfectly thanks to the help I received from Oyster, so I highly recommend them. I will definitely be looking to travel with them again in the future! Special thanks to Anne, Sarah, and John.
Georgie was really helpful when preparing me for my trip, she made me feel prepared and comfortable before flying off to South Africa for four weeks. I really recommend Oyster to anyone thinking about international projects and I had an incredible time.
Really friendly staff and helped me to have the trip of a lifetime to South Africa this summer :) 100% recommend!
Sitting at the airport about to venture out to Costa Rica. I’ve got the jittery pre travel nerves but am feeling confident knowing that every bit of the journey has been planned to the wire. Oyster were super helpful, friendly, quick with replying, and had lots of detailed information which helped put my mums mind at rest. I can’t wait for the next weeks adventure! Many thanks!
They were more than helpful every step of the way and provided me with all the support and advice that I could want! Would thoroughly recommend to book via Oyster worldwide!
Had an amazing time! Absolutely loved every minute of my two weeks and wish I was there for longer! Everyone you meet is lovely and all of the other volunteers are fantastic. Have made lots of new friends all over the world now. Was an incredibly rewarding placement and I’d go back in an instant!
Oyster Worldwide gave me the opportunity to experience a completely different part of the world, do my first solo international trip, and still help to conserve the environment in which I worked. Oyster Worldwide organised everything which is a huge relief when it is your first time heading to a new country and continent alone. I met an incredible group of like-minded people that I will remain in contact with for many years to come.
I had a spare 2 weeks in my travelling plans and emailed Oyster World Wide explaining I loved to travel, loved all animals and wanted to volunteer somewhere that made a difference. I received an email a few hours later with lots of ideas and projects that suited my time frame and the rough areas I was already travelling in. I only booked my oyster worldwide volunteering project a couple of weeks before the start date but they were fantastic from start to finish, answering any questions usually within hours of me sending emails or proving me with information packs that gave very in depth details and information about the project so I felt prepared and ready by the time the start date came. The project itself was a fantastic experience. I have travelled extensively over the years but this was by far one of the most exciting, rewarding and fun experiences of all my travels. We had great accommodation, simple, basic and came with a few “creatures” but was more than what we needed and actually much better than I had imagined. We had a weekly food budget but shared our cooking within the group to make the budget stretch. Each morning we worked in teams directly with the animals, helping to hide food for them and clean their night time enclosures. This was hard work but made fun by music, the friendly and fun staff and made all the worthwhile once you learnt the stories of each animals and how they came to be at the sanctuary. We then had a lunch break in the heat which was time for ourselves to relax, play games, swim in the river, take a much needed nap or spend time with the animals. Each afternoon was different. We got to participate in releasing wild animals back in the wild, special moments I’ll never forget, create enrichments for the animals (hidden food or creating puzzles for them to keep them challenged), painting inside and outside enclosures and daily maintenance. Our evenings were free time. We spent them doing a night time jungle walk, spotting many different animals and plants, swimming in the river (watch out for crocs- we didn’t see any), playing games, cooking and eating together, watching movies and getting to know each other. You will meet many people of different ages and walks of life, each on their own adventure. It’s a fantastic way to meet new people and make new friends. I went on to explore Singapore with the girls in my house after the project. We had 2 days off during the project where we relaxed at the beach and enjoyed a local festival. If you love to travel, experience new cultures and places, love animal and want to give something back then I couldn’t recommend Oyster World Wide enough. I am already planning next year’s adventure.
Very good trip
Having picked up my son today, from the airport, he is absolutely buzzing about his time in Costa Rica. In the two weeks he was there he saw his only adult turtle (he did see babies too) on his last patrol just before they were going to give up. It was the icing on the cake. The staff did all they could to give him the best possible chance of seeing one. As a mother, sending your 17 year old son on his first solo trip was daunting. Oyster answered all my questions and put us in touch with others in a similar situation. In Costa Rica every part of the transport from the airport to the hotel, to the sanctuary and back again was so well organised. Everyone involved in the project were kind and helpful. A real adventure to remember.
