Rhode Island Student Loan Authority (RISLA) is a non-profit quasi-state authority that has been providing lower-cost higher education financing solutions since 1981 and free college planning services since 1998. Also provided by RISLA is RIScholarships.org, a free online scholarship search tool to help match students with local scholarships. Additionally, RISLA also offers the Knowledge for College Scholarship, which awards 50 students $2,000 each to help pay for college expenses. For students trying to reduce their interest rates on existing student loans, RISLA also offers low-cost student loan refinancing options. RISLA is with you every step of your college journey, walking you through the college planning process, educating families on obtaining financial aid, and providing tools and resources that help families make informed and responsible borrowing choices to help pay for education.

Sep 12,2024This is one of the worst companies I have every dealt with in my life. To start off I've had this loan with them since 2007, paid on the student loan for about 5 years and when my wife fell ill I was able to defer payments twice. When I reached out to the company to be proactive and see if there are any other hardship options every single lady in the office was very nasty and disrespectful. When I informed them of my situation, they had no issue telling me that it was not there problem and that they would get there money one way or not. I was informed that this is a private company and they do not have to abide by the same rules as other loan companies. While my wife was ill I was unable to make any payments and during that time, due to late fees and interest my loan amount almost doubled. Fast forward it is 2024 and I have made payments on time for more than a decade and no relief or assitance has been provided. I would like to warn any young adult to please look at all your options as this company has made my life diffcult for 17 years. I would not wish this on anyone and hope that you all find a better company to do business with. PLEASE DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!

I think it's great that our state offers free help with Fafsa!! It's stressful enough going through everything else that needs to be done for college preparation.
