Global interest in British design and manufacturing has never been higher and Samuel Groves is building on this golden opportunity by continuing to invest in manufacturing equipment to produce the very best cook and bakeware at their manufacturing site in Birmingham.
Few suppliers of hospitality products go back as far as Samuel Groves. This venerable Birmingham-based manufacturer of kitchen equipment started in 1817. The big take-off into hospitality supply came during the Second World War when Samuel Groves won a major government contract to produce aluminium trays, with many other items for the Ministry of Works and the War Office being added soon after. This helped reinforce the foundations of the modern business, which gained a major boost from the introduction of the Mermaid brand at the beginning of the 1950s.
Samuel Groves encompasses all facets of manufacturing including Metal Cutting, Presswork, Metal Spinning, Welding, Fabrication and Injection Moulding. In addition, we are able to design and manufacture our own tooling in house.
Even though the market and indeed cooking practices have evolved over the years, Samuel Groves quality and processes have improved. We remain traditional manufacturers and every product we are proud to say is still hand-finished. We have been a manufacturer in Birmingham for close to 200 years, some of the skills that will be used in the factory today will have been used all throughout those 200 years.
Every range produced at our factory, we believe is the best you can buy, whether that’s our robust stainless steel 3-ply cookware, or timeless Mermaid anodised bakeware.
Excellent quality products, fast efficient service. Thoroughly recommend
These pans are excellent and were delivered very quickly
Very pleased with the products and received excellent service/delivery. Will certainly use this company again.
Quality kitchenware and great value
I ordered 2 cast iron pans which arrived ahead of time. They are stunning, very well cast and very heavy, which means they heat up evenly and allow you to cook with precision. I am extremely pleased with my choices and can recommend Samuel Groves without hesitation!
Great service and speedy delivery. Really happy with the products too, they’re really good quality and am sure they will be very hard wearing!
Really great product (I have Mermaid roasting tins in various sizes.) Swift delivery, too.
Very happy with a speedy delivery, eco friendly with no plastic packaging. I ordered the Mermaid hard anodised trio set and a square brownie tin. Very handy sizes to bake several dishes on the same oven shelf, especially with two vegetarians in the family. The baking trays have rounded corners and no roll overs that can trap water and rust. Also another important factor is that they are made in England ! Perfect thank you very much!
The pan is brilliant but it took forever to arrive.
Chef's pan is very suitable for cooking steaks. Temperature rises slowly and steadily so that it can be well controlled. I've tried medium and medium rare, my friends can tell which one is which. Meat tendon is also separable and it's never overcooked. However, if you use this pan for chicken or fish, you need to make sure they are cooked inside. I've tried two times they looked really done but the inside was raw. Saute pan is suitable for boiling soup or sauce. I've noticed that it takes relatively longer time to heat up, but when it reaches a certain point it suddenly boils vigorously (compared to other pans that I have). For this reason, I seldom cook meat with this pan. Generally, both pans require experience to keep them clean and neat, especially if you haven't maintained it with oil. For the first few times of use, I wouldn't cook eggs because it sticks on the pan heavily. If it looks fine I usually just wash the pans with water (without detergent). A thin layer of oil seems to keep the pan non-stick. But this really depends on people, if you are an expert you may do whatever you want.
Quality pans. should last a lifetime.
very good pan, well made, heavy, but great results. will buy more
These are excellent pans. I have bought very expensive pans from a French manufacturer and these easily compare but with a much more affordable price tag and the added bonus of being able to buy something that is British made. Would thoroughly recommend and these are definitely my new ‘go to’ range.
perfect every time. lovely to use & made so well. 100% recommended.
Products arrived promptly and in excellent condition. They're exactly what I ordered and are in continual use.
Received the pan very quickly after ordering. Well packaged. Beautiful looking pan, a lot lighter than I expected.
Bought for my new induction hob. Works really well & heats evenly .. I used for a while on an old school electric range & again performed really well.. really even heat distribution. Price was very good. Only slight minus .. I find the handle a little awkward for some reason when tipping/tilting to serve. But generally I’m very happy.
Really good quality pans, we love them
Item arrived safely and reasonably promptly. Items are made to order and I waited about 2 weeks, ahead of the original estimate of 3 weeks. The pan appears very well made and the non-stick works beautifully. It conducts heat extremely well, so you don't need high heat to cook. I like the fact that it is British made and has a pan for life guarantee - it can be refurbished at some point in the future at less cost than replacing it. I cannot fault it.

Apr 23,2022It is worth paying a bit extra for quality and this is quality. I would like to say it is a work of art but art is something you hang on the wall and look at. This is totally practical. Of course we hang it on the wall as well but that is just a bonus! Not only that I fully expect to be leaving this to my kids.....whether they like it or not!
