As usual, Coy and Kings, and especially our agent there, James Noyes, arranged our trip with meticulous attention to every last detail. Their reputation in the Far East is second to none, and we find that hotels give us special attention because of Cox & Kings. Their drivers and guides are invariably on time.
The online description of the holiday was clear and when I called to make the booking, Matthew was extremely helpful.
Holiday was excellent, always felt safe in Jordan, our guide Daoud was a fabulous man and so knowledgeable of everything Jordanian. Trip was a pleasure to go on, nice to have only a small group too. Hotels were all top notch both for standards and location - could not fault the whole holiday.
Grand Tour and Shimla Fantastic trip, everything I had hoped it would be. Truly excellent guide, Ash, very knowledgeable and fun too. Friendly, supportive group of travellers, who enriched the experience. The itinerary gave us a real sensory taste of everything India has to offer and we loved it. Would go again definitely with Cox and Kings.
We recently had a trip to Morocco. The hotels were very nice, some were really lovely, however so much time was spent travelling on the coach between towns that we often arrived at the hotel late in the day / early evening and couldn't enjoy the hotels. An example is that the journey from Erfoud to to Ouarzazate was 5.5 hrs on the itinerary but took from 8.30am to 5pm with a half hour break at Todra Gorge and a stop to visit some underground water tunnels = probably 7 to 7.5 hrs travelling inc lunch stop, we arrived at the hotel at 7pm. The Journey from Chefchaouen to Fez took 6 ¾ hrs inc lunch, the itinerary was 4 ¾ (exc lunch stop) After having booked the holiday we found that we were all expected to tip the drivers (2 nr) and guide. The recommended amount was 100 Dirhams (nearly £8) per person per day for the driver and for the guide. With 2 drivers and a guide for 9 days that is £200 per guest, With 15 people in the group that is £3,000 ! This caused quite a bit of discussion and awkwardness between the guests as to how much we should tip. Cox and Kings should be like some other travel companies and include tips in the holiday cost. Otherwise a good holiday, treated very well and a very knowledgeable guide, hotels generally excellent, interesting sites and cities, the scenery was surprisingly varied and the decorations in some of the buildings was amazing. I would go with Cox and Kings again if it wasn’t for the problems of tips which should be included in the cost of the holiday.
It is working with a very professional team in India who support travellers like us who want a bespoke tour with good guides and a well managed itinerary.
When we arrived at the airport, there was no one to meet us, we had to get another tour ref to phone ours, it wasn't the greatest start. The Radisson hotel in Muscat was situated right in the middle of a motorway system, so to be able to cross the road was both difficult and dangerous. The tour involved an awful lot of driving, hundreds of miles each day and there was an obsession with forts, at least four included, one would have been enough. Oman is a beautiful country and the itinerary needs to be changed to reflect this, also the hotels need to be changed, only the one in the desert was up to scratch. So change the tour to include one main fort, include the evening boat trip in Muscat and an evening recital to the beautiful opera house should also be included. Also look at more authentic hotels.
We had a great experience of India on the Himalayan Foothills tour. We had a lovely knowledgable guide, a really nice group of fellow visitors and the hotels were all fine. Shimla lived up to expectations and we found the people friendly, courteous and kind. Unfortunately there was common agreement that this itinerary involves far too many hours of getting from A to B. Seven to eight hour transfers on two days and four hours plus on several others became tedious and uncomfortable , especially as our minibuses were far from luxurious and short on leg-room. C&K surely need to ensure that transport vehicles are fit for purpose, given the driving conditions on India’s half-built highways and dangerous mountain roads but our group had to insist on a replacement for one of our minibuses as several seatbelts were broken and it was far from clean. The other was marginally better but the driver was so nice we voted to keep it. Another disappointment was the lack of assistance given by the representative at Delhi Airport. We were left to use our own initiative in negotiating a self check-in procedure which grew utterly chaotic when the e-gate malfunctioned. If it had not been for the kind help of a Sikh family who led us to the right place and marched us to the head of a long queue we would have been at a loss and possibly missed our onward flight. This was upsetting for all of us, the more so for one or two of our group who were travelling alone. We have not travelled with Cox and Kings before and will probably not do so in future as we felt there was a lack of attention to detail and a less professional touch than other companies offer
Excellent trip encompassing all the elements we requested with some lovely little extras! We are indebted to Jo McCreedy for her help with arranging our trip so quickly and comprehensively.
We had an excellent tailor-made private holiday in India, designed to enable us to visit a number of significant historical and cultural sites not usually included in the more popular tours. The sites were superb, the guides were excellent, the hotels were very good with some quite special and the transport arrangements all worked to plan.
Well organised trip with interesting itinerary, excellent group leader and support team and good value for money.
The tour leader is what made this trip so special. She was extremely knowledgeable, patient and endlessly good natured. This was despite a punishing itinerary. If she hadn't had been so amazing, more of us would have folded under the packed itinerary. It was far too frantic and needed more days. For instance, arriving at the Valley of the Moon in the heat of the day after a flight and expected to hike in sand and intense heat is not good planning. There was a theme throughout the tour, just too much and not enough time. Having said all that, a huge thank you to Paula for all she did for us. You have a gem there.
We went on the Golden Triangle and Shimla tour in India. Our group consisted of 18 people, a good selection with everybody getting on really well. Our guide, can’t remember his full name, but he told us to call him Ash, was excellent. Ash was so knowledgeable about everywhere we visited and made it so interesting and not like being at a lecture. Ash was very attentive keeping everyone part of the group but also dealing with any individual’s needs. Nothing was too much trouble. We learnt so much about India thanks to Ash’s talks on our coach journeys. Each topic was different and chosen by the group. Thanks to Ash’s contribution we had a wonderful holiday. The hotels that were selected were excellent and for us the tour was ideal. The Taj Mahal was beautiful and the Toy train and our stay in Shimla was the icing on the cake. We would highly recommend this tour and Cox & Kings for arranging it all.
After an amazing trip to Sicily two years ago I expected more from Cox and King. Itinerary was very basic and the first three days could easily have been made into two. Hotel accommodation was good everywhere although the Radisson in Muscat benign the middle of a busy roundabout had its complications for some on the trip.Transport was fine but our guide although Perfectly pleasant was not the mine of information that one expects on a tour with Cox and King. All in all a bit disappointing
Amazing holiday, fantastic guide, excellent variety, good quality hotels. Could have stayed longer in mountain and hot spring resort for more relaxation and stretched it to 14 days as plenty to see. Would highly recommend the holiday and your company.
Excellent guide accompanied the group tour and helped us all to make the most of the different and varied parts of Costa Rica we visited over ten days.
Absolutely amazing holiday. All guides were good. Felt safe and looked after for the whole holiday
Well planned and executed guided tours
A good tour with a great tour guide. Unfortunately the trips based on our stay at Tortuguero were a little disappointing, particularly being asked to pay an extra $35 each for a boat trip which we felt should have been offered without additional cost. The Rio Frio river trip at the north of the country was a stand out element due to the huge quantity and range of wildlife we saw there. The holiday extension at Manuel Antonio was exceptional, due to the fabulous hotel we stayed at, and our pre-tour side trip to Panama was also a highlight of the holiday

Apr 23,2024It was a great holiday, an amazing Country with the most friendly people. Though more thought could of gone into the itinerary. It did not make sense with some of the scheduling of travel and visiting places
