Dec 23,2021Really rather disappointed by something that could arguably be "at the margins" but which leaves a lingering taste. I ordered a huge waterbutt, not cheap, from this outfit that was pictured with a tap. it was delivered without a tap, although it was in the picture was not included as standard. Poor show!

Unfortunately, the tap was missing from the kit but, following a brief email exchange, sales@evengreener placed an order and tap duly arrived as expected without additional charge. Now good quality product installed and already full!

Nov 16,2021I bought 2 no. Harcostar 227 litre water butts in grey. I chose them for the grey colour because they are to be used adjacent a grey stained outbuilding, but I also felt the price was good and British made. The butts arrived as scheduled in large cardboard boxes. Their weight meant they are reasonably easy to manhandle. All the fittings were inside the butts and I'd ordered a fast flow tap and overflow kit which were mixed up with the standard fittings that come with the butt. The packaging for the overflow kit had come undone in transit and so all the bits were loose in the bottom of the butt and it took some time to locate the washers which are important for the sealing. I also noticed there were some quite deep scratches on one of the butts as if it had been dragged on its side on a hard surface. This must have happened at the depot before it was boxed up. I just put the scratched side to the back and of course it's just a water butt in the garden, but really it should not have been scratched and shows some lack of care somewhere in the process. As for the butt itself it's well made and rigid and looks like it will be durable. I haven't fitted them yet but it looks like it should be ok, but the instructions are not very user friendly and it took a few reads before I understood what needs to be done. The lid to the butt is difficult to remove and fix into position and rather fiddley and I noticed before purchase that a number of reviewers have made the same comment. It involves slotting the lid between plastic spigots and pushing in a rather temperamental plastic catch - it takes some time to master this operation and it does work, but it needs a rethink on the next design update. The base is made of interconnecting plastic pieces and is a little wobbly but this is not helped in my case because of a slight slope to the concrete slab upon which it is located. I have other water butts in my garden of different design and manufacture (all of the cheap and cheerful variety) and I would say this is one of the best in comparison. So overall I'd recommend this water butt if you like the style and colour at a very competitive price, but can only give it 4 stars because of my comments.
