Competitive rates, professional service ( also flexibilty in delivery hours - late night in our case) generally fully recommend on the local Iceland market
So, we went to Iceland for a week long trip, starting on 07 April. We were a big group, 8 people, planning to rent 2 separate cars and tents to camp (yes, yes, winter time and all that, but we survived :D). what draw my attention to FairCar was it's good rental price (way lower than many others) and the possibility to rent tents and mats together with the vehicle. As I read lots of nightmare stories about rental companies in Iceland, I decided to check about the company. There were mixed reviews, some saying that they were victims of a scam, other saying that they had a spectacular time with the company. We decided to give it a shot. We rented one Hyundai i10 and one Peugeot 308 SW, the cheapest combination to carry all of our stuff, (3 tents, 8 Mats, 8 sleeping bags, 8 bags full of clothes, 23kg of food and a camping stove (Which I would recommend FairCar to make available on rental too) ... We are students, so we were on a tight budget, brought our food all the way from Germany ... hahaha. Both cars were fully insured, as we were pretty much afraid of the nightmare stories. When we arrived at the airport late at night, there was a woman with the rental company logo waiting for us. Here is where our great experience with the company starts. She took us to the office and was very friendly overall. we chatted for a while, as we were an odd group (too big, all students and all that). There, we were informed that the Peugeot wasn't available (can't remember the reason), so they upgraded us to a VW Caddy, which is considerably bigger than the Peugeot, for free. They also informed us that the camping cards we purchased along with the rental would be no good, because all of the campsites that accepted them were closed, so they refunded the value for us :D. We signed papers, were handed keys, tents and mats and went to inspect the car. Every detail was marked on the paper, aside from one that we noticed. We informed the woman about it and she marked the paper. Everything went smooth, so we got the cars and went to our roadtrip. We left their office at midnight, but couldn't camp the first night, because it was windy, and with windy I'm being kind. Appocalyptical is more like it. It was strong, something like 20 m/s ... that is the moment we understood everything said about wind ripping car's doors off (no, we lost no doors, as we were extra cautious with them :D). The second day we noticed that one of the tents and 2 of the mats were missing (their mistake for not checking, and our mistake for not checking), but we couldn't go back to take it, as we were in Akureyiri already, which is something like 600km distant from Keflavik. Next day we called them to report the missing tent and there was no problem, they would refund us \o/ We rode something close to 2600km during our stay, and the cars never showed any sign of failure or problem. I can't remember how many kilometers the Caddy had already had at the time, but our I10 had something close to 100.000km. Very well kept though, both aesthetically and mechanically (yes, we checked, as the majority of us are Mechanical Engineering students). We handed the cars back at their office for inspection (we requested the papers confirming that the car was OK) and there was no problem on inspection. It took something like 40 minutes for both cars to be inspected and we had no surprise. Everything went smooth as it should. They them offered to drive us to the airport, where we would wait some time until our flight back. Now, 4 months later, There had been no additional charges or surprises in our credit cards. With all that in mind, we can assure: They are the best :D If I ever come back to Iceland for a second run, I will sure to look for FairCar for a set of wheels (and I expect not to be on a budget again this time ... hahaha) P.S.: I edited the post to add the part about the friendliness of the womam with whom we rented P.S.S: I edited it again because I forgot to add the reason for my edition
Good experience.
We rented a super economy car, lots of dings and dents, but ran well. Nice people at the rental agency.
Nice pice up service Great camper van Clean car Quality goods in camper van No troubles Good drop off service
Rented a car for 10 days in Iceland. Car was in excellent conditions, service was fast and owner was always available when we had a situation, I feel confortable recommending this company to future costumers and as a costumer that had to use the insurance, I also feel very satisfied with the results and speed of the process
We were charged 1700€ for invented damaged in an old and already damaged car ... Impossible to discuss with the customer service about that affair. They write you that the repairs have already been done, they charge you and close the case ... I would advice anyone who wants to rent a car not to choose faircar ... They are not so fair ...
The campervan was exactly as they show on their website. Excellent service and personal treatment. Our english is not very good but they did their best to explain us everything we needed. We rent the campervan with the full insurance service and we didn't have any problem when returning it. The only negative point is that the car was a bit dirty inside when we got it, however it's worht it due to the price difference with the other companys.
They picked us up at the airport early in the morning and brought us to our car which was all ready to go. They were super friendly and explained everything we needed to know about driving in Iceland. When we returned the car and was dropped off at the airport, everything was just as nice and convenient. Had no issues with the car, it was sturdy, dependable and clean. Would borrow a car from here on my next trip back!
We rented a car that was too small to accommodate our luggage and the staff happily kept a piece of luggage in their storage for the 4 days of our rental free of charge. We also got a free upgrade to a bigger car... a Nissan Micra. Careful, the small cars are very small. But everything went well and the staff were helpful and kind. At the moment of booking it was also the cheapest option.
FairCar was a wonderful company to deal with; timely, pleasant, informative, reasonable pricing and no hidden charges. Our flight was late (an hour or so) and Bjarki was still there when we finally got through the process. He escorted us to the van, drove us to pick up the car and was friendly and chatty the entire time. The paperwork was simple, the car was in good shape, loved the option of the wi-fi thing in the car, so we could run our gps from our smart phones. I was a bit hesitant after reading so many different car company reviews that the smallest ding in the paint was a problem; of course, we didn't go offroading either. Turning the car in was not problem either. Checkout was also quick and easy and the girl who took us back to the airport was also friendly and professional. Just an overall great experience. I plan to visit Iceland again in the near future and plan to use Faircar again!
Read lots of horrible reviews regarding rental car companies in Iceland. But everything went without a hitch renting from FairCar at KEF. The people involved in our rental were incredibly kind & helpful. We were glad they gave us a tiny car as gas hovers around $7/gallon in Iceland. Got great gas mileage. We will definitely rent from this company again. And we WILL be going to Iceland again...guarantee it.
The best thing about the van was the refrigerator - none of the other little camper vans that we saw in Iceland had them. It meant that we could buy 2-3 days of food at a time - handy when we were in the west fjords & the only source of food would have been gas station hot dogs! Fair Car's campers had a really slick set up in the back with a stove, sink, water storage, utensil storage and pot storage all in drawers adjacent to the refrigerator. Slick.
We were picked up by someone waiting for us as we got off the plane. Taken to the site down the street and went through the paperwork without hassle. They have an onsite mechanic and shop so i felt at ease taking one of their vehicles around Iceland without worrying about breaking down. Customer service was fantastic and the charges were as described on the site when i booked. I would advise not taking the extra insurance unless you plan on venturing off the paved roads. The roads are in great condition from the city to the glacier lagoon. I cant say for the rest as we didnt go all around this time. I would not hesitate to recommend this company.
Very easy, reliable and good service
We rented a car in April 2016. The car was great. The service offering you to pick you up at the airport and dropping you somewhere when you return the car works fine (although we were forgotten at the airport pickup but after a phonecall everything was fine). I had read and I still read angry and disappointed feedback comments about the inspection which is not done in the driver's presence and sometimes leads to expensive fees. So I did request (you do that the day you pick up the car) an inspection during open business hours, even if it meant returning the car the day before the early morning plane. The car was washed and after some time waiting in the office, the lady came to tell us everything was fine, we signed the papers and she drove us to Keflavik. To avoid any conflict, I would advise travellers to do the same if it's possible. The staff is nice and welcoming, the prices are cheap so you just have to solve this inspection issue. If I visit Iceland again I think I will rent with Faircar once again.
Prompt collection and delivery to the airport. The external of the car was a little scruffy but, bearing in mind some Icelandic roads, perfectly acceptable. The inside was clean and tidy. A GPS was provided in the price. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, a good rental. PS Congratulations to Iceland for Euro 2016!
Always when I visit Iceland I use FairCar, there are mainly two reasons for that. One is their low price, second is their reliable service. One should take into account that they build their business on purchasing used vehicles that allows for lover cost thus lover prices. All the cars we have rented from FairCar have been reliable and just as good as any car from competitors, for the half of price. I have come to know the owner due to my many visits and rentals, a very enjoyable experience I must say. One bonus... no worries if there is a minor scratch :)
Everything was ok. They give us what they claim at website. The full insurance they offer is the top offer.

Aug 29,2016Easy to book online, was met at airport as promised and easy return of vehicle. Very courteous and helpful customer service. The hardest part of the car rental was figuring out how to get the vehicle into reverse. (I never drove a manual where I had to "lift" the wrap around the stick shift to put it into reverse. After watching us not leave for ~10 minutes, help came!)
