Hiring from this company was very straightforward. We were met at the airport and driven to the office so we could complete the paperwork etc there. The car was in good condition - all dents and scratches were marked on a diagram clearly, so we had no worries that we might be blamed for a scratch we hadn't made. We were also warned about which roads were very icy and which were OK (we were travelling in January). Our only problem with the car was not much of a problem....just that quite a few of the studs in the tires had come out, so there were fewer than we would have liked - but the car still drove fine, even on ice, so we needn't have worried. Arrangements at the end of our holiday were also very easy. We drove to the car-hire office and then were taken on, from there, to the airport. Next time we come to Iceland we will use Fair Car again.

As a first time solo traveler, having a dependable car was very important to me. Being away for the amount of time I was traveling on a budget, a good price was also important to me. I am a member of triple A insurance, which comes with car rental discounts (normally around 20% off). I researched reviews, was in contact with a triple A representative who was watching prices for me and continually watched for price changes. Faircars is who I chose. It was a comparable car and beat the lowest price triple A could find. It also included GPS (some other companies charge extra). Aside from that, their other extras are really great for travelers: chairs, tents, sleeping bags, local phones etc. Another thing I liked is that the price included taxes and fees. It is what its listed as, no surprises later. I was able to pick exactly what I wanted and pay up front online with no problems. The staff is professional and polite. I emailed the first time with every question I could think of and was surprised at the quick and thorough response. I got nothing less each time we exchanged emails. I called once when my internet was not working, i was greeted with the same hospitality and professionalism. Impressive company all around. I highly recommend them! You won't beat their price vs quality so save yourself the time and stop looking. .

Faircar rental Iceland. We hired a small car for 6 days in April 2014. It was a Hyundai i10 – the same car as my wife owns so it was very familiar to us. We were met just outside of arrivals with a placard with my name on it. A cheerful helpful and polite representative drove us the car depot about a 5 minute drive away. A really delightful way in which to start your holiday break. I have hired many cars over the years – well over 100. Usually they simply hand over the keys after filling in the forms and taking your money. They also check over the car for damage. With Faircar the give you the most thorough handing over I have ever received. They inform you of the fuel type required, give you advice on driving in Iceland, a map, details of the weather forecast, and even a Sat Nav with HOME being marked as to where to return the car. We arranged to return the car at 8.00 am six days later with a full tank of fuel. Amazing. All of the above cost 182 euros… around £146. This was booked through economycarrentals.com (I usually use them as I find they over great service and are easily contacted if required and often cheaper to boot!!). This I believe is cheaper than booking directly with them. Overall great value, service second to none. Superb. We strongly recommend you use them – first class.

If I have really good memories of Iceland, that's in part because everything gone well with the car I had rented. Someone was waiting for me at the airport, picked me up from the airport to the company. And then, when I had the keys, I could go wherever I wanted to. I just had to come back to the company the due date to give back the car, and the same person drove me again from the company to the airport. Perfect!

2014 - We rented two different vehicles during our 2-week stay in Iceland and we were extremely satisfied with our 2 cars. Sturdy and reliable, our vehicles from FairCar made our stay really great! The rates were really good and other extras/insurance coverage provided by FairCar was comprehensive. Website was easy to use and navigate too. More importantly, the people at FairCar made the biggest difference for us - Einar was warm, friendly & professional. Punctual when he picked us up, helpful when we kept asking him questions, Einar showed us what good customer service is. And he is now more of a friend to us than just a car rental owner! His sincere outlook made it so easy to trust him and work with him. Thank you Einar and the team at FairCar! Jie, Deon, Leonard & Joshua Singapore We made our 2nd trip to Iceland in 2015 and we experienced the same great service from Einar and his team at FairCar! The cars were sturdy and well-maintained, lasting us the full 2 weeks we rented them without any problems at affordable rates. We were serviced by Einar and his very warm & friendly team and it was always a pleasure to see a familiar face that offers such great service! The team went the extra mile to make the complicated things regarding the rental easy to understand and it was a smooth transaction. No car problems, no payment complications - if and when I head back to Iceland in the future, I will definitely rent my vehicle from FairCar Iceland! On behalf of all 8 of us, Lim Jie Singapore

We hired a Nissan Qashqai for 4 days during our trip to Iceland. Einar met us at the airport and took us to get the car. Unfortunately one of the headlamps was out, but we got it fixed at a local garage and was refunded the cost. Fair car were the cheapest car rental by far and we were very happy with the service. Happy to recommend.

Having worked for Hertz in the past for 5 years as station manager, I am well placed to assess car rental quality. It is important to make each customer feel special ( not an easy thing to do !) Einar and his staff did just that, a faultless performance; guaranteed studded tyres at reservation ( not available at the major rental companies ), free pick up and drop off at the airport, free GPS, the car ( astra automatic 150000 kms) in perfect working order during our 3000+ km trip around the country, and of course all the advice and tips necessary when it's your first trip to Iceland. All this for a price which enabled us on a limited budget to splash out on accomodation which was sometimes unavoidably a little costly. We'll be back in a few years to see the Western fjords. Don't need to tell you where we'll be renting our car from. Bill Fuller

Faircar provided us with a good winter ready Hyundai Tucson 4 wheel drive with spikes. These proven to be essential on the icy roads of iceland. No problems in keeping the car on the road. Unfortunately my friend hired a car with only winter tires without spikes, that slowed us down a lot. He even skipped roads that we could easily follow. The collection & return process was easy; the owner waited in the airport terminal and brought us to the car, we returned the car at the same spot and were brought to the terminal.

We had to choose among several well known and lesser known/local companies. We are sure glad that we went with FairCar!! One of the owners picked us up upon arrival at the airport, oriented us to our car with studded snow tires for our December visit, gave us an Iceland map, and -very important for us- the included GPS made it easy to get around. Other companies charge 10 euros/day for the GPS that was included for us. Personal service made all the difference.

I have to say, our holiday was very dependent on a car. We hired two Astras and have to say they were awesome! Yes they have a few miles on the clock, but regardless, they were fantastic little run arounds (and competed well with the bigger hire cars) Einar also was awesome! We had a problem with one of the cars, and with a flash he came to the rescue and delivered us a replacement. A very friendly guy who ran our hire seamlessly! So on behalf of us all, thank you Einar and Faircar for completing our holiday :)

Fair car provided us with a car for our 10 day road trip around Iceland. They also provided us with all the camping equipment we needed. The car was really nice, clean and quite good on petrol. The camping gear was all brand new and really nice. The car was fitted with brand new winter tyres. Einar was quick to respond to any queries we had and came and dropped the car off and picked it up again from our hostel. Fantastic car rental company. Local and friendly. I would recommend them to anyone. Cheers from Australia.

We rented a 4 wheel drive Jeep Patriot from Faircar for the most days of our holiday and while we found out it was replaced with a Hyundai Santa Fe we have been very happy with this truly comfortable car. The roof box we added to the rental proved to be very useful too. We also rented a Hyundai i10 for a couple of days around Reykjavik and that proved to be just enough for a couple with LOTS of luggage. We are photographers so we had to take around our equipment besides the usual camping stuff, food and clothes. Einar and Bjarki (the two founders of Faircar) are two nice guys that will help you get whatever service you need no matter the late hour too. Just since I believe the company is quite new and local to Iceland don't waste your time looking for a desk at Keflavik airport: someone will pop up at the Arrivals showing the Faircar sign with their hands to take you to their office (5 mins drive from the airport), where the car you rented is waiting for you to leave. Faircar is really recommended to anyone looking for a more affordable price and good service when renting a car in Iceland. Rick

VW Caddy campervan is a very good and cheap choice for a couple who wants to have all things of a big caravan, except for toilette and shower but with a little washbasin with tap to clean pots, glasses and dishes and a little tank of 30 liters. Fair Car gives also a table, seats, armchairs, pots, dishes, glasses, cutlery for cooking on a little gas cooker, mattress and duvet to sleep inside the car and towels for kitchen and toilet. You have a big tent also you can link to the car in case of bed weather, where you can eat and cook without problems. The first time you can have some problems to assemble but when you understand it's easy and fast. 18 kms for 1 liter of diesel (cheap also about this) and you have a little discount in one company which has petrol station in all the country. The car is very good on gravel roads also. I think this little campervan is a very good choice if you want to visit Iceland along 2wd roads (and you have a lot to see along this roads also). Also some icelanders were interested in this car when they saw in campings. I know it's the first year Fair Car has this type of little campervan and only 3 of them. I'm sure it will have more in future because VW Caddy campervan is great.

We came from the UK for a 12-day stay in Iceland to see-in the New Year and, hopefully, see some northern aurora. We were met at Keflavik on December 28th by Einar in near blizzard conditions and FairCar provided us with an Opel Zafira that proved to be utterly reliable, roomy, and quite economical (32-mpg) to run for an automatic. We covered over 850 km during our stay, and enjoyed every minute of it. The studded winter tyres coped well with the very icy roads that we often found in early January, and the efficient heater kept us cozy in temperatures that went to -8 deg C. I recommend FairCar to anyone.

I knew finding a cheap car to rent in Iceland was not going to be easy. Fortunately I came accross Fair Car. Although the car was not new, the Opel Astra we were given was in perfect condition. We arrived in Keflavik airport at around 3.00 at night and there were the people of fair car waiting for us to transfer us where the car was parked. We travelled the island around with our 3 daughters and everything was fine. We just noticed some strange reaction of the car on the other side of the island and with just a phone call Einar indicated us a car garage immediately. They reviewed the car , 0 cost and the car continued working perfectly well. Again to return the car, absolutely no problem, at the arranged time they transferred us back to the airport. (booking number 162) Thanks for everything!

I visited Iceland this summer with the intention of travelling across the whole of this beautiful and interesting country. I spent some time, prior to travelling, researching car hire and was horrified at the costs associated with the the likes of Hertz, Budget and other multinational car hire firms. Then I found FairCar. The Opel Astra we were given wasn't new, but it was a prefectly servicable car and the cost of the hire was far more sensible than the ludicrous quotations that I'd from other providers. Our travels went well and FairCar really showed their committment to their customers when we had a problem. We were about as far away from the FairCar offices as it's possible to get and our exhaust fell off. A quick call to Einar to explain the situation and he called me back within 5 minutes to infom me that a garage was waiting for us, to fit a new exhaust. The repair was very quickly performed and I reckon we were held up for a total of about an hour and a half. Wear and tear happens but I could not fail to be impressed with the speed with which FairCar responded to our predicament. We were quickly on our way again and completed our grand tour of Iceland a few days later. One of the best holidays I've ever had and it was in no small part due to Einar and FairCar. I couldn't recommend this company any more highly. It's always good to spend your money with a local company as well because the multinationals are only interested in their profit margins.

I liked my experience with FairCar. Everyone I talked to was really friendly and helpful. I really liked that the rental was based on trust. We lend you a car, just bring it back the way it was and it's normal if you meet a few pebbles on the road. I didn't have the impression to be "just another client". Thank you very much! And you guys Icelanders are amazing!

FairCar is a great, trustworthy rental car company. Their rates are extremely reasonable and while the cars are not the newest or most luxurious ours was in great condition and ran smoothly. We had a manual Opel Astra. It came with a free GPS (Garmin, brand new and great) and we had no complaints. I would without a doubt rent from FairCar again and do not hesitate to recommend it. Einar is great and you should do your best to support a local Icelandic business!
