It's really sure, that faircar. is isn't a good company to rent a car. Their prices are low, but they compensate it by claiming 'so called damage' when you're back home.We had paid for 4 insurances and we're sure there was no caused damage. We paid in advance 617,66 EUR for rent a Nissan quasquai for 10 days in winter+ insurances, and we thaught we did a good buy. But, when we're home they took another 1130,74 EUR from our VISA. The link of trust pilot was first on their website. But when I asked them how it's possible they stay saing they are honest, while soo many clients have the same experience with them, they took away this link from their webiste on the 24th of december 2015. So they proof they want to hide something... So, do not let entice you by their low prices for rent because afterwards with their claim, you pay a lot more than you would pay in another company. Christa-Belgium (car rented 28/10-8/11/2015) My answer to the response of faircar Whatever you say, just YOU and me know for sure there was no damage. In order tot verify, I've checked the reviews of a lot of other rental companies and by NONE I can find (so many) complaints on 'alleged damage', only by fair car Iceland. That seems so vey clear... I've one tip for everybody travelling to Iceland: it's the most beautiful country you've ever seen. But, just don't take no risk and choose for a trustworthy rental company for your trip in Iceland!
Same problem they did not show up to the appointment, I left the keys at the hostel where we were staying and after two months they ask a damage of € 1300 which charges me € 700 for damage not caused. I have pictures. Why they not response at this type of messagge? Everything was great up till 45 days after our holiday. We got a email stating we scratch their car and it would cost 700 euro which coincidently is the same amount as the deductible on the extra insurance we took. At no point during our driving this vehicle did we damage it. The pictures that were sent were taken two days before we picked up the car. The taillight was broken above the scratch which was marked on the damage report but not the scratch. The car was cheap to rent but the extra charge weren't.
I rented a Camper van for one week. The car was rather old (over 100000 km) and with a lot of scratches and chips everywhere and bald tyres. But the machine worked well and the car was clean. So far everything was okay. BUT: I got a bill nearly three months later for a scratch at the bottom side of the plastic front bumper with an amount just below the SuperCDW I booked and payed!!! The scratch was documented with a photo which was dated one day AFTER the return of the car! So I can't recommend this car rental! Never again. Btw: Are the positive records also asked for a proof of their car rental? Just a question.
Same problem: Ask for the money in your card 2-3 months later for a damage you nerver caused. Even though having justified with pictures that you have not caused this damage they still insist to take your money. I will go back to Iceland but never with faircar.
Hello, my name is Vlad. Starting from 27.07 till 07.08 2015 I was in Iceland and rented a car in faircar. For me it was the chepest solution to see the Iceland on rented car. Other rental componies 7-10% expensive, however they do not charge you with so called "isuranse deposit" 300 euro. It is like insuranse for the company "in case of". So i would say it is up to you to decide to pay more without deposit, or less with deposit. In my case deposit was unblocked in 4-5 days after I droped off car. Now few words about car: I got Suzuki Alto with, I guess, 0.8 l engine with 4.5 - 4.7 liters per 100 km, which is REALY great with local fuel prices. So for me it was the best solution, I hardly can imagine car with less fuel consumption. To sum up all my experience with faircar: the only disadvantage is that you can not drop the car off and get some money back. All the rest in my experince is 10 out of 10. Thank you fair car and Einar.
Everything was excellent from Faircar. Our flight was delayed for 4 hours due to bad weather, nevertheless, Einar was there to pick us up from the airport which is 5min to the rental office, he was friendly and helpful, even help us with the luggage. We rented the VW Caddy for 10days, the car was clean and in very good condition fitted with winter tires and satnav. (All inclusive in the rental, other company charge extra for it) The car was very reliable and we had a wonderful time in Iceland. We returned the car at 6:30am to catch my early flight, Einar made arrangement for someone to receive the car and sent us to airport! By far, this is the best and personalised service I had experienced from any car rental company. Iceland is such a beautiful place, I intend to return in future and will not hesitate to book from Faircar again. Tip: Do buy the Gravel Protection Insurance..
We rented in August 2014 a caddy campervan for 10 days. The car was clean and in good state except a small gravel impact on the windscreen, but nothing nasty. And for a really very interesting price : 1014 € for 10 days. But for the rest, the customer service is not really recommendable nor reliable ! Upon our arrival, they were unreachable and picked up us at the airport 45 mn late, without explanation... Unacceptable! And that got more complicated when we had an impact of gravel on the windscreen by driving on road 1, after 2 days of journey. Naturally, we had not taken the option gravel protection, which would have saved us many problems... By returning the car, it wasn’t possible to make the car statement, because they agree to make it only during their office opening hours, after having washed the car… so, in any case it’s not possible to make it in “fair” conditions because they can wait you are left to write what they want)… It was a stressful situation for us and we were afraid that they take advantage of it for imputing us other damages without we can dispute them. The manager told us he would inform us quickly, yet it lasted a long time before he was willing to answer us. And when he finally decided to come back to us, he demanded us a total amount of more than 700 € of repairs for the windscreen (+ 170 € of administrative fees, that could not be paid off to us by First VISA). We were really surprised, because the windscreen seemed to us repairable regarding the size and the location of the impact, and no report specified the need to change entirely the windscreen… Moreover, the mileage indicated for the vehicle did not correspond! We cannot guarantee that this repair statement was reliable or justified, but there were many reasons for having doubts ! When we asked for more documentary evidences in particular for the report return necessary for the file of compensation VISA, we came up against a wall. We had to ask help of the European center of protection of the consumers, but unfortunately, no possibilities to have more guarantee on the justification of the repairs. That ended in the debit of the account 4 months later of about 880 € for a small impact on the windscreen. We have been paid off by VISA the amount of the repairs, but stay another 170 € under our responsibility. Morality: take the gravel insurance if you rent in Iceland (by Faircar or another company)... You can make an interesting deal with Faircar, but it is at your own risks because the reliability and service is not recommendable at all !
Don’t let the good reviews fool you. This company take detailed pictures of every panel of their cars (in a well-lit garage) before and after your hire. Only you will be checking the car outside in the dark/ wind/ rain/ ice/ snow. What chance will you have of spotting small stone chips? Either deliberately or by accident they will leave some of the damage off their condition report which you sign before driving off.Ten weeks after my hire, my credit card was debited for £1140 (Euro1447) for ‘my’ stone chips on a car with nearly 100,000 kilometres on the clock. I know I didn’t cause them – I stayed off F roads and drove normally. So if you want to play Russian roulette with your Credit Card, book Fair Cars. I have separately contacted the Iceland Consumer Agency about this practice – there is some evidence on the internet that this occasionally happens with other car hire companies in Iceland. If you insist on using Fair Cars take time to check the car – take your own photos and write on the condition report ‘unable to fully check condition of vehicle due to weather/lighting conditions’. I recommend using a company such as Insurance4Carhire which can protect your CDW Excess. They have a good reputation. Ignore Fair Cars response to this review.
These guys really do try hard to meet customer concerns. I was mistakenly charged for replacement fuel when I had returned the car with a full tank. They refunded me the charge and all is now right with the world. When I come back to Iceland, I will definitely book with them again. My only recommendation is that they add some extra lighting outside their facility and they should place the car under that light when asking people to inspect the car. It was pitch black outside when we arrived to get the car, so it was almost impossible to actually see the few dents and scratches they wanted to me to sign off on before I took the car. I really couldn't tell if there were any others that were not noted on form to be signed. If they can fix that (and get their offices open so people can take care of the paperwork inside instead of in the van), I would give them 5 stars.
I thoroughly recommend FairCar - their prices are great, the cars are in good conditions, and their customer service is fantastic. My partner and I hired a car for two days in December. The car was clean, easy to drive, had a good GPS system, and was perfectly suited to our needs. The customer service was fantastic - we initially intended to pick up the car, but at the last minute we realised this would be problematic, so Einar happily rearranged things to come and pick us up from our accommodation. He took the time to thoroughly explain eveything we needed to know, and was very friendly and pleasant to deal with. It was an all-round positive experience!
The service from Faircar was excellent. The drivers that took us to and from the airport were friendly and helpful. The car was in good condition and came with a satnav. We arrived the day of the first snow of the winter, but snow tyres had been fitted and driving in Iceland was a breeze. I would not hesitate to book with Faircar again if I return to Iceland, which I am certain to do one day.
Booked a 7-seater via EconomyCarRentals. Very happy with boot car and FairCar. Will use them again.
We were met at Keflavik Airport by 2 friendly and very helpful representatives who drove us the car depot about a 5 minute drive away and given all the advice and tips necessary when it's your first trip to Iceland. I have to say, our holiday was very dependent on a car -we covered over 1000 km during our stay, and enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks for everything and would definitely rent from them again :)
EL COCHE SUPER LIMPIO. TODO FUNCIONANDO A LA PERFECCCION. EL DUEÑO ES MECANICO Y EL COCHE ESTABA TOTALMENTE REVISADO. NOS INCLUYÓ EL GPS EN ESPAÑOL, LAS MANTAS, LOS HABIOS DE COCINA, CUCHILLOS, OLLAS, SARTEN, PAÑOS DE COCINA, ETC....Y DOS BOMBONAS DE GAS. SE PORTÓ GENIAL CON NOSOTROS. MUY FORMAL. 100 %100 RECOMENDADO CUANDO TE DA EL COCHE TIENES QUE DEJAR UNA FIANZA FIRMADA DE 300€ DE TU TARJETA DE CREDITO, PERO NO TE QUITA NADA DE LA CUENTA BANCARIA. ASI QUE SI EL COCHE ESTA BIEN, VUELVES A ESPAÑA Y VES QUE NADA TE HA quitado DE DINERO. YO VOLVERÉ CON FAIR CAR SEGURO ¡¡¡
Just back after a week doing the circular route in FairCar's i10. Good guys to deal with and the wee car drove well throughout. No hesitation in recommending FairCar to anyone who's looking to find an affordable and reliable rental in Iceland. We're looking forward to a longer trip next time and will take a 4x4 in order to get to those places which are out of reach for a normal car.
Me and my husband rented the car with the FairCar for the first time and the experience was really excellent. We rented a small car for one week. The price of the car was low (as it can be in Iceland) but the car was in excellent technical condition so we had absolutly no technical trouble during our trip around Iceland. They brought the car to our hotel and helped us with advice regarding the roads and driving conditions. When we returned the car they were very professional and all went well. They were also very kind and helpful when my husband forgot something in the car and they found it and brought it to the airport before we left the Iceland. I would definitly choose FairCar renting when coming back to Iceland.

Dec 31,2015I had to cancel my plans at short notice with Faircar however they were very fair and reasonable about it, and after explaining my situation fully the owner himself got in contact and communicated with me on a frequent basis. I was advised if my plans changed again abruptly they could offer me the original deal - they are exceptionally well priced, all the other deals I was looking at were much more expensive and I was only going to use a car for a short period. It is sad I had to cancel as the customer service was excellent and very personal. I cannot comment on the other reviews here, just give you my own experience of their staff and my interaction with the owner and director. I will definitely be using them if I visit Iceland again.
