I posted a negative review of Mac Store UK on this site on the 9th March (“Be warned or be sorry”). Mac Store replied on Trustpilot on 16th March to say they would “respond privately with a resolution in the next few hours.” That was twelve days ago. I still haven’t heard from them. I was led to post my review by Mac Store’s failure to respond to an earlier message. In their reply on this site Mac Store say they are unable to find any such message on their system. One writes to the store via a text box on their “Contact Us” page, rather than one’s own e-mail client. There’s good and bad news for the consumer in this widely used system. It is virtually guaranteed one’s message will be received – but one has no independent record of having sent the message in the first place. I did however keep a draft which I’ve pasted below. I’m posting again now simply ‘for the record’. I’ve written off my experience with Mac Store UK as an exasperating waste of time and money, and want nothing more to do with them. « In June 2020 I ordered a used Nvidia GTX 780 3GB for Mac Pro. On receiving it I wrote to complain that the apparent poor condition of the card did not correspond to the description on your grading guide. I was offered a £30 partial refund in compensation – which I accepted as I needed to meet a deadline and was anxious to get on with my work. I bought the card so I could make a hi-res 360 degree image in Unreal Engine – an operation only possible using an Nvidia card in Windows with the Ansel plugin. I installed Bootcamp on a Mac Pro and the card worked fine. My work with the card took no more than a day. After that I had no further need to use the bootcamped machine until two days ago. I had barely begun work when the display began to stutter, throw up patterns of green pixel lines, and freeze to black. I’ve spent my time since then trying to fix the problem every way I could think of. I’ve reinstalled the system with all current updates and updated the Nvidia drivers. I’ve been led to conclude that I’m seeing symptoms of GPU failure. Sod’s law, although I’ve only had a single day’s use out of the card, the guarantee expired in December. I accept that you owe me no legal obligation. I’m nevertheless hoping for your understanding. I would like to return the card to you so you may examine it for yourselves. If you confirm it is faulty I hope you can replace it at either no cost or a reasonable (under the circumstances) cost. »
