Overall , my experience was very good. The experience with the ECC was amazing and the group of women were lovely.
I’m so glad I chose Libearty Bear Sanctuary in Romania for my first volunteering experience! I’m currently 4 weeks in, with only 1 week to go, sincerely wishing I could stay longer. Each day starts by being chauffeured to the sanctuary, greeted by the friendly staff and cuddling each and every rescue dog before getting down to work. The work itself is simple and rewarding, with the added bonus of unobstructed views of beautiful Brigitte, a darling 10 month old cub. Watching her grow in confidence each day has been a truly enriching experience and really drives home the fruits of the labour. It’s easy to see how Libearty have been voted the most ethical sanctuary by National Geographic Traveller; the bears freedom and prosperity being the central focus for all involved. Razvan and Anne have undeniably invested as much of their hearts, as they have their time, into this project. As a seasoned traveller, I require slightly less assistance, however, both have been at the ready to help in any possible way, and at the drop of a hat. The accommodation is great, centrally located in breathtaking Brașov, with everything you could need (even towels/linen!) and short walking distance to the supermarket (where a weeks food shopping costs about the same as one days in England). Oyster have treated me to excursions to exquisite Peles castle, spooky Bran castle; nestled in the picturesque Transylvanian Alps and even attending one of the paid guided tours of the sanctuary which really highlighted how much more exposure to the bears I encounter each day. I would like to thank Razvan and Anne for their dedication to the project and welfare of the volunteers, and of course, Marian for getting me to and from the sanctuary, safely each day. It’s been an unforgettable experience and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to new or seasoned travellers.
What a rip off. Things are not included in the price even down to the basics such as food and drink. Once realised, after various emails, they would not refund my deposit of £180 as it was past 7 days although it was only 3 weeks later. Make sure you read EVERYTHING as some things are difficult to find! Ticket prices to the bear sanctuary in Brasov are only about £5 each so you are better off visiting it and giving a donation rather than paying the extraordinary amount of money to this company for basically giving up your time. You have been warned. In response to Oysterwide's comments, no I have not yet been. I am due to go via my own arrangements this year. I was not querying a sit down meal, as you have stated as I would certainly not have expected this, I was querying simple things like water and a sandwich. I just wanted to clear that up. In a further response to Oysterwide's comments, I note that they have stated that they are still holding my £180 and are willing to put it to further use. As I will not be booking anything with them at any time in the future and I still do not know what the £180 was actually for, I would like the money paid as a donation to the Bear Sanctuary in Romania please as the whole point of paying to volunteer was for the bears and sanctuary to benefit and not the company. I have not stated that the terms and conditions are not on the website, I am just advising prospective travellers to examine their website very carefully as things could very easily get missed. Thank you.
A very enjoyable experience....challenging but rewarding. Our project manager Chat was brilliant!
Oyster Worldwide really helped me preparing and organising my trip, and at first sight I was blown away by all the different opportunities they offer. I really enjoyed my trip and had an unforgettable experience.
Booking my trip to South Africa with Oyster Worldwide was the best way to go. I am 19 years old and had never travelled alone before, especially not to the other side of the world! And so, understandably, my parents were quite concerned for my safety and I was also very nervous about navigating through a completely foreign place. However, thanks to Oyster I actually didn't feel alone. Every aspect of my trip was organised, and no matter how silly or irrelevant the question may have seemed, Oyster (Georgie in particular!) gave me a thorough answer in no time at all. Even when Georgie was away I did not have to wait as one of her colleagues handled my problems. During the booking and planning of my trip and also during my time in South Africa, Oyster was only ever a phone call or email away. I am extremely grateful to Georgie and everyone at Oyster Worldwide for helping me to have the most incredible experience volunteering in South Africa.
The Oyster staff were friendly, helpful and took all of the stress out of planning a big trip like the South Africa Vet Experience. The experience it’s self was amazing and truly a trip of a lifetime. I would like to thank everyone that was involved in getting me there.
It's a really great experience for me to volunteer at Romania medical center
The help and advice I received from Oyster before my trip to South Africa was excellent. Georgie in particular was fantastic help answering all my questions and actually visited the project while I was there in order to expand her knowledge of the trip which I thought was great. I would definitely recommend Oyster Worldwide to those looking to book to go away.
Everything was well organized and I had lots of contact with an Oyster rep. They set me up well for the course!
My trips with Oyster changed my life. My agent, Georgie, looked after me and continues to support me like family. I booked 2 trips with Oyster, a South African Veterinary Experience and South African Game Ranger Course. Both have transformed my education, career path, and life dreams! I have never learned more in my entire life than what I learned on my Oyster trips. I could never thank Oyster enough!
My first project with Oyster was travelling to Romania to help with the bears! I LOVED IT! I honestly couldn't have asked for a better and more supportive company, especially when I was travelling away from home for the longest amount of time I had ever done. No question was a stupid question and they checked up on me when I was out there too, making sure I was loving my time, which of course I was! Rosie, Leeds
My experience with Oyster Worldwide was nothing short of excellent. I participated in the bear sanctuary project in Romania for 2 weeks in late August- early September 2018. What a beautiful country. The city of Brasov is a wonderful place, as is the sanctuary. The compassionate efforts to give these bears the best life they could have, is amazing. My fellow volunteers and I really got along well and have become dear friends. Probably one of the best experiences of my life! The Oyster staff was extremely thorough and supportive before, during, and after the excursion. They were incredibly informative. Not a question that any of their volunteer holidays are solidly ethical. Special thanks to Anne and Razvan for helping make the experience trouble-free so that the focus could be with the bears. I am currently planning my next holiday through Oyster and I am beyond excited!! I will certainly, one day, return to Romania and work at the sanctuary again.
Working with oyster when planning and organising my volunteer work at WFFT made my life so so easy. Very helpful and made sure that not only was I supplied with a complete list of everything I needed to do and have with me but they also followed up on any issues, queries or anything I needed them for. Would 100% recommend for anyone planning on doing volunteer work but needing a bit of help in the stressful organising process as oyster made this process completely stress free!
I went to the Riverside Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, in South Africa, though Oyster Worldwide. I must say that it was one of the best experiences in my entire life. Even though it was daily hard work, what you get to live with the monkeys is very special and unique. You go for walks with them, play with them, carry them and cuddle them! What could be better than cuddling baby baboons after a working day? In Riverside, you get to meet people from all over the world, you learn a lot about wildlife, and you have the chance to take care of wild animals. Being part of their rehabilitation, their future freedom, was extremely rewarding. I hope to be able to go back, one day.
In December 2018 I had the pleasure to spend 2 weeks on a Big 5 Conservation program in South Africa. I can honestly say, the weeks I spent there were some of the best weeks in my life - thanks to the place and the people there. The nature and wildlife are great. I can only recommend this trip to all nature lovers. The work you do is varied and rewarding. Sometimes, regarding the weather in the summer months, you feel exhausted from previous days, but – and I very appreciated this attitude – nobody is forced to work and you can stay back and relax enjoying the beautiful place. The volunteers feel free to go on the activities. Personally, I tried to participate in every activity as it makes fun to work with all the people together and you learn a lot from the rangers. (Almoust all the work is conducted in the nature inside the reserve and many times you go on a game drive) Coming back home felt really strange, as I still had the feeling to belong there and when I left, I left not only this beautiful place and the (great !! and helpful) stuff there but also many new friends from all around the world. This experience was really amazing! Oysters Worldwide provided great support and did a great job. I was feeling more than very well prepared before leaving. I received all necessary information and prompt responses for all questions I had. They kept in touch with me during and after the trip to ensure that everything’s fine. So overall, I had the feeling that they really care about you and that you get the most out of your trip. A big thank to Oysters for providing me this unique opportunity. After this great experience I want to continue with travelling and volunteering around the world and now I first check if Oyster offers something I'm looking for.
Don’t make a trip with Oyster!! You will pay so much money extra for nothing. I was in the Elephant Project. You can go there with oyster, but it’s a lot cheaper to book it directly through AERU. The project is located in the Knysna elephant park. Alright I have to edit my review now because Oyster striked because it didn’t include enough information about the service of the company. I mean what can I say... first of all you get called by them. They are nice but saying that it is their project - I already said something about that above. After that you get a lot of copy-paste emails with your name on top. All the information of the project are just taken from the project’s website and put into a oyster layout. They answer your questions pretty quickly but tell you anything they want to make you choose their project. If that’s not enough information, I will edit it again.
I cannot fault the support I got from Anne and I therefore realise that that costs , however, I feel that I paid over the odds for the experience when compared to others I met whilst volunteering. One small thing - our Tshirts arrived after we had left on our trip ! Not a major problem but a silly error on their part.
The communication we received form Georgie and the Oyster Worldwide team was great. They handled more that just booking our trip with WFFT. Thanks!!

Apr 11,2019I am 17 and needed to do a residential for my Gold Duke of Edinburgh but also had the urge to travel and my trip to Laos through Oyster more than covered both! From my first enquiry right until after I'm home the team at Oyster were amazing! I had lots of questions and so did my parents with me being only 17 however Anne was there at every step to reassure them and make me feel more confidant. I spent a week at the elephant conservation centre in Laos, it was challenging but SO rewarding, every part of my trip was so memorable and couldn't be happier looking back on my experience. The team at the ECC were incredibly welcoming and made it super easy for me to settle in. Thank you to everyone at Oyster that made it possible and I would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking of volunteering abroad.
