So far I have only got to the booking stage of my holiday, but from the first phone call I have received extremely pleasant, really helpful and professional attention.I feel confident that the rest of the process, and the actual holiday will prove to be as equally well handled.
I attempted to book the tour of the Scilly Isles for July, travelling as a single person. However, all single rooms had been allocated. The agent offered to contact the hotels and see whether I could be upgraded to a double. This was agreed, but with a supplement being added. I was happy to accept the supplement at this time. This upgrade was arranged very quickly. I am very pleased with the outcome.
Your representative was able to answer the questions I put to her quickly and there was no clarification required. I then made a booking for a tour in July

It does just work, hotels in the right place of the right standard, journeys pensioners can cope with the connections, guides who make it happen regardless of the real world interfering. We have done 4 and enjoyed the experience enough to book more. The group sizes are big enough to find people to share the spare time with but not so the whole day is head counting. You can choose full fat train spotting or holidays with some city touring blended. The only thing I would say is read the itinerary before you book as we have had people finding a daily steam train excursion too much or that a couple of days exploring cities rather than a steam train ride an issue but that is down to read what you are signing up for rather than RailTrail getting it wrong IMHO.
The holiday was explained well to ensure it was suitable for us. All admin went really smoothly.

Easy to deal with
We have had 3 Holidays with Railtrail, 2 in Europe and 1 in Scotland. 2 more booked for 2025, 1 in England and 1 in Switzerland. Every holiday has been packed full of interest. The hotels have all been excellent, and because of the holiday type, close to a railway station for convenience. It is always nice to travel in limited numbers with people of like minded interests. The tour managers are excellent. It is also good to have some freedom to do independent things as time allows. Booking has always been straightforward and the office staff only to willing to give advise if required. First class holidays.
