Barbour is a family-owned British heritage brand, established in 1894 in the North East of England. They are renowned for their practical and stylish, outerwear, clothing, accessories and footwear. Forever synonymous with the British countryside, Barbour’s collections span from the best practical country clothing to fashion-forward lifestyle collections. To this day Barbour’s ranges continue to be inspired by the company’s archives which date back to 1910 and each season classic designs are re-interpreted into modern, contemporary silhouettes.
I got a Barbour jacket as I wanted for once a good quality winter jacket. After a year some of the seems unraveled. I wore the jacket rarely, maybe twice a week, and in some areas the fabric is about to break. I think Barbour isn't as good as it used to be. I have an h&m jacket that lasted longer.
Purchased a pair of Barbour wellies which came with a 12 month guarantee but they sprung a leak after 6 months. Very poor quality and not what you expect from this brand. Returned to store who were not very helpful saying they would send them to the manufacturers see what they say! What does 12 month guarantee mean? Not a lot I think. Now without wellies and winter coming. Think I’ll buy cheap market wellies next time - they will probably be better quality than Barbour.
sent my older Beaford wax coat in to have a zipper installed so i could use a new liner instead of the old snap type ...three almost four weeks later i get it back with the liner zipper ..BUT the also replaced the main zipper with some sub standard zipper that was steel instead of brass...looked like HECK...the customer service person said they would repair it AT NO COST ...ya think...VERY UPSET with the poor service ...next time i will spent my hard earned money on a Filson product
Recently had my Barbour jacket re waxed by Barbour, took about 3 weeks from sending to being returned. Jacket now looks like new, and is ready for winter! Total cost £34 - although on top I did have to pay for the postage to Barbour. Really pleased and would use service again.
Purchased a pair of Barbour as looked great. Oh how I was wrong. on the THIRD set of boots and on every pair the heel came unstuck on either one or both boots. Barbour have replaced them twice but I have now given up. Shoddy, poor workmanship and an embarrassment to the brand.AVOID
I received Barbour wellies as a Christmas present. Within a month or so one wellie started to leak. I sent them back and was sent out another pair which I was thankful for! I had my second pair for no more than 3/4 months and again there is leakage in one wellie! I thought with the price of them they would have some decent quality. It’s not like I wear them that often either so was disappointed to say the least.
Do not waste your money! I have purchased a bag and jacket which together cost £500. Both have fallen apart in a short amount of time. The jacket stitching lasted about 1 week! Avoid, Avoid!
Bought a barbour Mac in April and the stitching on both sleeves seams at the top have split, due to bad design as it's loose on me. I hope I'll get a replacement but I'm not holding my breath. Wish I'd checked on this site before I spent almost £200.
Returned my Alpina Cheviot waterproof, breathable jacket for minor repairs costing £50.00 in May 2019. It came back as promised a month later with the repairs in good order. The jacket is over 15 yeas old and has always stood me in good stead, as did my "Border" waxed jacket in the 80's and 90's.
My 87 year old mother bought a padded lightweight jacket but she has been unable to wear it because the zip is "temperamental" and even I have trouble fastening it. I sent it back to Barbour at great expense (insured because it wasn't cheap) and it winged back to me without even a compliment slip with their customer service review of the product - nothing! I will not be buying a Barbour product again in a hurry.
Poor quality material, workmanship and finish. Poor aftersales service. Wont be buying again. Decades old loyalty has come to an end.
Bought a pair of boots for the winter. Paid over £150, so not cheap. Looked great. But after just 3 wears, the rubber heels on both shoes started to come off. Had to glue them back on. Also the studs on the top of the heel near the Achilles came off a couple of wears later. Then the eyelets for the laces started to fray. Poor quality all round, and when I raised the issue with Barbour, they didn’t seem too interested.
Cheap lining, the sleeves get full of condensation. When contacting customer service they said this isn’t a manufacturing fault and that they can replace the plastic lining with cotton for a fee of 35 pounds. Going to pay for the replacement but won’t ever be shopping at Barbour again. Don’t bother buying the Ashby.
When buying high end products, I much prefer to go into the shop and try things on and get the feedback of the staff. I had my heart set on a different jacket from the one I eventually bought and I guess I could have ordered it online but I have nothing but praise for both Nil & Ella at the Covent Gdn store. I visited last Thursday and took my hat off to them in terms of their professionalism and the way they were patient when I kept changing my mind on the size. I would like to extend my thanks to them in the hope that management can also acknowledge them too. In this day and age, people are often short on praise and big on complaints. Attending to members of the public can't be easy but Ella & Nil make it look easy and enjoyable.
Zip failed quality is appalling on Zips - CS said nothing wrong with it and sent it back. Avoid at all costs
I own many barbour products and never had any issues with coats luggage and qaulity hasnt changed in the slightest i use a bedale wax everyday and thorne wax bag everyday and never had a problem and these two have had heavey use over past 2 years not a mark on either also barbour repairs and rewaxing is always worth doing as my old duke been rewaxed once before
I have a Barbour Int. waxed cotton jacket that cost £250...that I have only managed to wear 6 or 7 times because of it's poor material. Even in the coolest of temperatures, you end up drenched because it doesn't breathe! I don't know what type of cheap non-breathable material they lined it with, but it's not worth the high price tag! For this price and the International line, one expects quality- which this isn't. This is a massive design flaw that needs to be fixed and anyone unfortunate enough to purchase this jacket should be reimbursed...anyone considering buying it should save their money.
Quality used to be great but had Donne hill last few years
Slightly confused with how many bad reviews on here - Barbour items that I’ve had have all been pretty good!

Oct 12,2019Recently ordered a ladies Beadnell waxed cotton jacket for my wife and it was delivered promptly for our collection within 3 days to the Factory Shop. The jacket is well manufactured and fits perfectly and contains all the added Barbour features including internal mobile phone pocket, which she loves. The salesman which we think is called Rory (ginger hair) was very courteous, knowledgeable and helpful. He assisted my wife from the beginning to the end of the sale in order to make sure she was completely satisfied. Well done Barbour Wishing you all the best for the next 125 years.
