Terrible company, frankly unbelievable they can continue to operate in a first world country. The fact they seem to be trading under four different company names depending where you look says it all. Avoid! I was given an old beater of a car, loads of damage. Central locking wasn’t locking one of the rear doors so unknown to me my car wasn’t even locked properly for days. However the real issue came when after a few days the car suddenly would not start. Flat battery. This was despite driving 3 hours earlier that day which would have given a working battery plenty of charge. It was out of hours on a weekend so I called the breakdown number provided. Who wanted a payment of £300 before they would come out and attend! Being stranded on a Saturday night I had no choice and was told I would be reimbursed later. Luckily the car started the next morning and I was able to make my flight. Now they tell me it’s my fault that their car broke down and they won’t cover this charge. For their car breaking down, causing me a lot of stress and ruining my last day in Iceland. If you’re renting a car with them, I would cancel, and if it’s too late then be prepared to be shafted if anything at all goes wrong.
Terrible company, trying to claim damage and demanding on a very agressieve tone that we needed to pay almost 3000 euro. Damage was, according to them, little spots on the front of the car due to gravel. We could polish it off ourselves but they said it needed repairs. Under pressure to catch our flight we had to sign otherwise they wouldn’t let us go. Be warned about this as it is a form of scamming in my opinion
Most important: it was Marek who handled my reservation and he did a superlative job. He is friendly, thoughtful and efficient and also extremely thorough. The car itself has clearly been ‘well used’ but it’s fine for our purposes and the price was much cheaper than other companies so i guess that’s the trade off esp in Iceland which is hard on cars
We arrived super early in the morning, but our ride and car were ready and waiting -- not too mention hot coffee and hot chocolate to keep everyone happy. The car was great and the staff was super helpful!
My group had a very unsatisfactory experience renting through this organization. We reserved a car through Next Car. We received conflicting instructions via email about when the shuttle would arrive at the airport. We waited for 45 minutes after our flight before the shuttle driver arrived. We were taken to FairCar to pick up our vehicle, about a 10 minute shuttle drive away. After waiting about 30 minutes, our number was called to complete the rental process. Our experience with the service representative was terrible. She was rude, continuously rolled her eyes, and talked over us. We had previously confirmed on the phone with Next Car that we would not be considered “young drivers” at 25 years old. Upon check in at Fair Car, we were told that this was incorrect and we would need to pay a $100 fee for being young. The representative offered no solution and told us to take it up with Next Car if we had a problem with the fee. Then, we were informed about a $3000 hold that would be placed on our credit card. The representative showed no sympathy to our concerns about holding such a large amount of money and said this was simply their policy. After enduring that experience, we were finally given a car. Once we got in, we realized that the USB port and interior lights were broken. We immediately returned inside and requested a new car. The only other car available was a 2 wheel drive, as opposed to the 4 wheel drive we paid for. We were not refunded the difference in cost between these cars. We took the two wheel drive car so that we could end our experience dealing with Fair Car as soon as possible. Later we found a screwdriver left on top of the windshield in the little dip that tucks under the hood. An entire screwdriver! Not sure how they missed that. After leaving, we realized that we weren’t given the name of this business (Fair Car) or an address to get back to. I had to Google Next Car and the Icelandic address listed on their website is nonexistent on Google Maps. In order to find the location again to return the car, I had to look at the Google Street View of every car rental place near the airport to identify the building myself. It was a truly outrageous and frustrating experience. Since I am required to give at least one star, I’d like to assign it to the fabulous coffee machine in the lobby that made some of the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had. Fair Car itself gets 0 stars. To be clear, the hot chocolate is not worth the experience we had. I would not recommend anyone use this service - go with a more well known car rental service.
Had booked the car along with insurance with a broker before travelling to Iceland. When arriving, I was told I'd need to pay for insurance again at a cost of 273. I tried to dispute this explaining I'd already purchased insurance for the vehicle but was ignorantly refused. Had also paid an additional fee to drop the car back out of hours. This was not honoured by the company and I was forced to drop the car back when the office opened. This meant I not only paid an extra fee but also meant I almost missed my flight. Staff were also incredibly rude on both occasions of collecting and dropping back the vehicle. Would strongly advise against going with Fair Car
I picked up my rented car, I couldn’t have asked for better. I was seen by Trausti he was really nice and helped me a lot! It’s was perfect. Trausti, who helped me, was clear and professional in informing me of the road rules, absolutely fantastic! Thank you Trausti
Merci
I booked online and read all the fine print. Had my own insurance and everything. I get there and sure enough there’s a long lineup of people being screwed over and vacations being ruined. Claimed my insurance wasn’t valid and had to get there’s despite no indication of any of this online. I refused and even talked to their shell company CC Billar. Would not even consider a refund and simply claimed buyer beware. This company is an absolute bunch of scam artists and the better business bureau in Iceland should look into them for all the trouble they caused and people they’ve swindled. As I was there and watched what was happening to people it seemed more like an organized crime racket. Companies and people like this who scam and steal money from decent people just looking to have a good time on vacation should be arrested or at the very least shut down. Iceland is a great place to visit but places like this should not exist and be shut down entirely. A black eye on an otherwise great country and place to vacation and see the world.
Though the location is off-airport, which is a little inconvenient, the shuttle runs frequently and the ride isn't too long. The staff at the facility were top-tier. Trausti, who helped me, was clear and professional in informing me of the road rules, potential hazards, and layout of the local area - absolutely fantastic!
Super delayed flight into late night due to bad weather but was still picked up from airport with no issues. Handover was quick and smooth, new winter tyres (very much needed in the mountains!) and Customer Service was top notch. Big thanks to Traustt, top fella for the advice. Would definately use again.
Marek was extremely kind, helpful and provided us with an excellent service
Traustt was the most helpful in advising what car was the safest, and was super accommodating. I’ve never experienced such great customer experience in my entire life. Would highly recommend using faircars and specifically asking for Traustt when you land in Reykjavik airport. He’s the absolute best!!!
Everyone we spoke to was very helpful and kind. We had initially booked a small economy car and they convinced us to get a four wheel drive; nothing fancy. Man, are we glad we listened to them! There was a lot of ice and snow, and the car handled it perfectly. They were also very efficient - we didn't have to wait more than twenty minutes for shuttles in either direction.
We just picked up our rented car, we couldn’t have asked for better. We was seen by Trausti he was really nice and helped us out a lot! No complaints!
Very friendly and efficient service. The representative was called Marek and he was very polite and helpful. The collection instructions were very simple to follow and the car was received as agreed. Would use again!
