We rented a car from a top guy, Trausti Falkvard. Our car broke down and he made sure it was replaced while we took a bath in a hot spring! We didn't have to wait by the car and lost almost no time at all!
Ilse was very nice and attentive to us, she helped us throughout the trip in many aspects. We had a great time in Iceland we would definitely go again.

Si j’aurai pu mettre une note dans le négatif je l’aurai fait ! A fuir absolument !! Par où commencer ? - l’arrivée à l’aéroport et on a attendu 45 min avant qu’on vienne nous récupérer - Ensuite, pour la caution on a dû payer un supplément de 570€ car on avait qu’une carte de débit et non de crédit !! - Ensuite, la voiture .. n’en parlons pas : un phare qui marche pas, le capot qui n’a fait que bougeait tout le long du voyage quand on roulait, le coffre qui ne s’ouvrait pas… L’accélérateur qui se bloquait quand on roulait … et j’en passe !! La politesse dans cette entreprise inexistante : Le check-in avec les vérifications de la voiture tout comme le check out inexistants! Et pour clore le tout en beauté : pour rendre la voiture le combo gagnant !! Personne à l’office avant 6H du matin alors qu’on devait la rendre à 5H !! Une heure à attendre que quelqu’un vienne de l’office et jamais il ne s’est excusé de son retard , sans oublier le check out qui été inexistant ! A fuir de toute urgence !!

These should not be on the road at all. Brakes that don’t work – worn tires that need to be replaced – engines that barely start – check engine service lights on – rusted body damage apparent and who knows what else that cannot be seen. Do not fall for the low rates -- it is a scam!! You will risk having car stop working in the middle of nowhere... or worse have a flat tire or other mechanical malfunction and crash. The Ring Road and many others do not have safe places to pull off -- the road is built up and drops off steeply to the side. You do not want to have your car die on you in Iceland. Imagine being stuck overnight somewhere in the cold with no shelter other than the car, your car is stuck on the road where it can be hit by other cars, the lights/power have died on your car, and you have no mobile signal. That is the risk you are taking with this shameful company. Think of the workers as actors -- they seem nice at pickup and in the office. But it is an act so you don't realize until too late that they are giving you a horrible dangerous car that no one would ever rent. If you do end up there and are reading this review while waiting forever (between the pickup, shuttle loading, and further wait at the location), ask to check the kilometers on the odometer and open hood to see engine before you accept the car -- you won't believe how bad. You may be tempted to just go along with it – don’t do it. You’ll end up having to return the car or break down somewhere. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY - I was charged the deposit of 6.241 ISK at pick-up, but it was never returned. - 5 months after the rental, they suddenly charged me the parking and violation fees of 7.749 ISK, which I don't recognize at all, without any evidence but with a forged receipt that has nothing to do with me. - They handed over a car gas was not fully filled (Check-out fuel: only 3/8), and I could not help returning from middle of nowhere to the city center to fill up. They never responded to my repeated complaints I filed. - I booked a "Toyota Land Cruiser or similar," but the car that I picked up was an old banger of Suzuki Grand Vitara. They use several different names to deceive customers; FairCar, City Car Rental, Wheels Car Rental etc. whereas they always charged to my credit card under the name of "CC BILAR REYKJAVIK"
DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. I rented a car from FairCar from the 11th of November-to 18th of November. I was asked to put a £2300 deposit on hold and was insured that this would be released on the same day I return the car after checking for any damage. Car was checked and no damage was made, I was told that the deposit was released. However, after 15 working days, the deposit has still not been released. I contacted my bank too, and they informed me that FairCar is still holding my deposit. I have contacted FairCar and their reply is not helpful at all. They have not given me a proper answer on why my deposit is still on hold or when it will be released. NEVER AGAIN! I'm still waiting for my deposit. To add to this, the car was very old, we drove half hour from the rental and a couple of lights on the dashboard came on, we had to drive back only to be told the lights are ok and its due to winter tires! The central lock didn't work, we had to lock every door individually, and we were too far away to waste our time and go back to change the car.
Bonjour La personne qui devait accueillir mes clients à l'aéroport a eu plus de 20 minutes de retard à l'aller et s'est à peine excusée. Au retour, à 5H du matin, personne n'était pas pour les accueillir, leur reprendre les clés et leur redonner leur caution. Elles ont attendu 30 minutes puis ont du laisser la voiture à l'aéroport pour ne pas manquer leur vol ! Le service de ce loueur est vraiment nul. Dommage car ils ont certes les meilleurs prix mais au niveau du service, ça ne va pas du tout ! Tout est à revoir !

One of the worst experience ever. OVERCHARGED, some hidden fees that the guy at the front desk was not able to explain properly, did some simple math and told us 3 prices within 5 minutes. Beside the GOLD INSURANCE that I had booked online I had to take 2 more INSURANCES. As well the car was very old and in bad conditions, the speedometer was like a rainbow, all the failure lights were on. The doors were closing from the 2,3 times and you had to slam them like a rock. The heaters were not working in the back of the car, only the front ones. We booked a 9 person car.The guy from the front desk apologized for the inconveniences and offered us a GPS and 2nd driver for free and in the end we had to pay for it. DON'T BE CHEAP, BOOK SOMETHING MORE EXPENSIVE BUT WITH A GOOD REPUTATION. We're still waiting for the deposit to be refunded, they said it should arrive between 4-24 business days. As well to all of our questions the answer was YOU HAVE TO CALL THE BACKOFFICE, I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE. I DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO ANY INFORMATION! NEVER EVER AGAIN ! THE WORST !!!
Read a lot of bad reviews before renting a vehicle 1st - 8th Nov for a winter trip across Iceland. Although the car was on the old side and high mileage we had no problems. Slight discrepancy with fuel on pick up but corrected. No hard sell for additonal insurance, no issue on return of vehicle, no mileage limitation and quick release of excess from cc. Some companies actually take a payment then refund leaving the renter to pay the currency charge but not here. Overall good experience.
Never again! Avoid this company, please go for Sixt or Europcar. The worst service. It started already waiting for more than 1 hour at the airport (when it was written on the leaflet 30 mins). Then I arrived at the shop. eDreams had told me that I did not have to make a deposit because I had contracted insurance with them or that in the worst scenario would be less than 1.600 euros. They were asking for 2.700 euros and my credit card was 1.800 euros. Tried to convince them to split into 2 credit cars, or make a charge on my account through a debit car. The only solution that they were offering was steep insurance for the entire rent, basically, they obligated me to contract it. Finally, I ended up buying that insurance in order to get the car paying more than double that what I had already paid on eDreams (I paid 200 euros for the car and 114 for the insurance on eDream. Now I was paying an extra 299 for another insurance). Left the place quickly. The following day I started having problems with the car. The car was extremely old without remote control, weird noises and odour all the time you swift gear. I forgot to tell, that we asked for the winter tires because we were going north and they told us it was not necessary. Once in the north, we had several problems because there was snow and the roads were icy. I have several photos of how they were. We saw cars off the road. Scary. From the second day the emergency lights, the engine, the oil began to be turned on. We called before going north and to change the car for greater security since we had to do many km and they told us that nothing was wrong, and they did not change it. Even having paid so much for the insurance and that old car, they were not able to change the car. Do not understand how eDreams has a commercial relationship with them.
As we flew EasyJet, we decided to use their recommended car rental company, FairCar (who also trade under other names). The booking confirmation stated that our transfer (seven minutes) to the car hire would be waiting for us on arrival (flight details given). Not so, we and others waited some twenty minutes for the transfer to arrive. We booked a Dacia Duster (a very common hire car in Iceland) and received a dilapidated one. Having taken a video of all the defects, off we drove, only to discover on first brake application that the front (only) brakes were juddery. That night, we discovered we had side lights or full beam lights but no headlights. In sixth gear, the car would frequently lose power under acceleration. The dashboard had two illuminated orange warning lights, one of which was tyre pressure warning, athough on visual inspection, the tyre pressures seemed okay. I have never hired a car in such poor condition as this and given this is a standard that FairCar finds acceptable, I would recommend to avoid them.

August 2020: Die Vermietung mit FairCar ist eine einzige Katastrophe. Bei der Ankunft am Terminal war zunächst niemand zu finden, der einen zum Verleiher brachte. Nach 20 min warten, kam endlich jemand. Dann ca. 15 min Autofahrt. Beim Vermieter ein überfüllter Raum mit lauter wartenden Personen, die meist nur von 1 Person betreut wurden. Wartezeit noch einmal 1,5 Std. Dadurch Anreise zum geplanten Ort nicht möglich. Das Auto hatte eine kaputte Tür, die man nur mit mit heftigem zuschlagen schließen konnte. Das Auto hatte bereits mehr als 150.000 km drauf. Die Windschutzscheibe hatte genau in Höhe des Fahrers einen großen Kratzer, der die Sicht beeinträchtigte. Ein anderes Fahrzeug war angeblich nicht verfügbar. Die Rücksitzlehne war nicht mehr arretierbar. Die Motorkontrollleuchte leuchtete permanent. Rückgabe: wie vereinbart war ich exakt um 5.15 Uhr beim Vermieter. Es waren bereits ca. 10 Personen anwesend. Niemand konnte den Wagen entgegennehmen. Auf meine Bitte wenigstens den vollen Tank zu bestätigen, wurde mir gesagt, er sei der einzige Mitarbeiter und habe keine Zeit, sondern muss jetzt den Transfer zum Flughafen durchführen. Ich solle nur den Schlüssel hinlegen. Nach da. 25 min Wartezeit kam endlich der Fahrer für den Transfer. Mittlerweile waren ca. 20 Personen anwesend, der Tranporter fasste aber nur 8 Personen. Es wurden dann 10 Personen in den Transporter geladen - teilweise ohne Mundschutz! Niemand achtete auf Corona-Maßnahmen. Insgesamt ist der Vermieter eine Katastrophe und hat meinen Urlaub stark beeinträchtigt.
Horrible, horrible, horrible. They over charged and refused to refund. They gave us a car they said we needed for the north, 4 wheel drive but there was no snow tires so we ended up in a ditch. Paid $400 to get out. They also gave us a GPS that wouldn’t hold a charge. Every part of this car was horrible and the service was the worse we’ve ever experienced.
This is first and last time I will rent from this Company. It started already before arrival to Iceland as when I paid the deposit with my debit card, I thought I could use this card in Iceland aswell, that was not the case. I had to buy some premium package and to pay double the price, which was way above my budget and also the car was so small and rather bad. The alarm went of all the time and it wasn’t proper locked (luckily a lot of people leave their car unlocked in Iceland so it wasn’t such a big issue) the passenger seat in front it was impossible to open the door from outside so we always had to open that one from inside. It was nearly not possible to drive up the hills without going down in 3rd or 2nd gear (out of 5). The radio didn’t work either. But had I known that I could not use my card or that I needed to use that much money on it, then I would have choosen a bigger car at another carrental. Nothing fair about fair car.
Husk et kreditkort! Hvis du kun har Visa, bliver du afkrævet den dyreste forsikring. Jeg havde masser af dækning på mit visa og har normalt ingen problemer med at sætte sikkerhed med det kort. Men Fair cars godtager det ikke. Selve lejeprocessen tager en krig. Fair car ligger ikke i lufthavnen. Man skal stå og vente på at der dukker en person op med et skilt hvor der står Fair car. Derefter bliver man kørt til udkanten af Keflavik hvor firmaet holder til. Det er her man så finder ud af at ens visa kort ikke kan bruges. Hvad er der af andre muligheder end at sige ok og føle sig lidt bondefanget. Man kan vælge at gå men det er nok de færreste der gider at besvære sig ud og finde en taxa eller en bus med al sin bagage. Vi fik endelig vores bil som var ok... var der kun en manual på polsk.. så vær opmærksom på det hvis det er noget du går op i. Desuden er det spild af penge at tilkøbe gps. Vi kunne nærmest ikke bruge den og endte med at bruge vores egen i telefonen. Resten af turen gik dog gnidningsløst. Men næste gang vi lejer bil i Keflavik bliver det et af de - sikkert også noget dyrere -selskaber der har kontor i lufthavnen. Det andet er bare for besværligt.
