A truly horrendous experience. We signed up as first time buyers and had lots of different people pushing us to sign up. We had money for our bills being taken and letters threatening to take us to court for not paying our bills. I was pregnant and the stress had a huge toll on me. We stuck it out until our contract ended after being promised the world and now we can't close our energy account to switch and it's impossible to get in touch with anyone to get any money back. This is by far the worst service I've ever experienced.

When I began renting a flat, the managing agents recommended I get a Homebox account to make managing bills "easy" and "convenient". The reality has been quite the opposite for the following reasons. 1. They charge £11 a month management fee. This wasn't at all clear from the initial contractual documents. 2. Despite saying that you can cancel the direct debit at any time, there is a stealth cancellation fee (of £10 + VAT per month). Again, this was not at all clear from the contract; it was buried in the terms and conditions. 3. They didn't actually pay the bills they were supposed to on time. 4. When I cancelled my Homebox account, I didn't receive any kind of receipt or details of the ingoings/outgoings of the account. Their record keeping appears to be very poor. 5. Once cancelled, the utility providers are refusing to deal with me directly because all the account information is in Homebox's name; this has made life extremely difficult. You would be much better off contracting directly with the utility providers.
