Lucky Rentals provides the lowest priced car, campervan and motorhome hire in New Zealand. No age restrictions and zero excess available. Start your adventure now!
Lucky, a company whose advertising is deceptive bordering dishonest. Camper vehicle (Lucky Rodeo), rented from the *Christchurch* location, was beat up (no emergency brake, side doors barely operable, mouldy interior etc) and poorly equipped (pots with no lids, water hose with no fitting eg). Service was indifferent at best. The icing on the poor service cake was being charged for a traffic infraction for someone else’s rental. Attempts to communicate were ignored. Avoid these guys like the plague.
The best option if you are looking for a simple, unpretentious camper at an unbeatable price. The vehicle was old but in an acceptable condition. You can easily get help with problems.
From start to finish we had wonderfully helpful and friendly service. Our Van was clean and well equipped and served its purpose perfectly. This was truly the best way to see a most spectacular country!
Provided a reliable, well equipped campervan as described for my family of 5 to enjoy a great camping holiday.
They didn't tell us that they couldn't do a shuttle bus for us back to the airport as it was a Sunday so we had to hire a cab which cost an extra $60 and was near impossible to get I. Sydneyfivw mins from the airport.
Au top ! Personnel à l'écoute et compréhensif
Van wasn't ready on pick up, delaying our trip by 4 hours. The gas hob in the camper didn't work and we weren't offered a viable solution to fix it. Fixtures to pin blinds in van back were mostly broken, including the blind between the drivers cab and the back of the van, which would fall down when driving, making visibility dangerous.
Dealing with Nathan direct, even the pick up from the airport, to the communication,we have rented a van and brought a ex rental and we would still go there in the future 😜and recommend to anyone looking Christchurch branch is where it is at friendly team easy service
Staff were helpful, great value for money. The van is pretty old, we called her 'Banged-up-Betty' and not the comfiest bed, but it had everything we needed and did everything we wanted.the only real issue we had was filling the LPG tank, which was pretty empty when we got it. There are very few places that can do this, none of the gas stations we tried had the right fitting for the small tank and it was a public holiday so no gas refill places were open. Outside of Christchurch it would be very difficult to find somewhere to refill. Luckily we weren't far from the rental place so we went back and the staff just gave us a full one that lasted our trip, but it would have been nice if they had a policy of just refilling them for you to save all the hassle.
Great little van. Great trip. Fantastic that it didn’t cost as much as so many other companies, thank you for letting the less rich, afford a trip too!
HORRIBLE SERVICE and we had no heat in our camper van, because they bypass the heating wires!!!
Pick up from airport & drop off on time. Most importantly very reliable motor home, important to check your own vehicle hook up cable, water how to drain on-site gas stove light up & check prior to drive away please don't rush check out all is working.
Quite expensive (like all rental companies in NZ) compared to the quality of the facilities on offer
Replaced van immediately after it was broken into
we arrived to collect our vehicle, it wasnt ready and we had to wait for well over 2 hours for it to be ready. early on during this time our daughter broke her arm while playing and was very distressed but we still had to wait, along with many other customers - such a long wait and the poor guy that was serving us was all alone was just slammed - please get more staff when you have busy days, and allow time to get vehicles properly cleaned before you re-book them! such bad time management!! (we where offered the staff members car to use to go to see a doctor but after finding out that the wait for a doctor would have taken upwards of 5 hours so we chose to wait for our car and find a doctor out of the auckland area where the wait times where less lengthy and we could get partway to our destination.) when we got the car it smelled like urine - it continued to smell like this for the first 2 days before finally fading off. drop off was a longer affair too - i was late for my flight because as i was waiting to drop off the car (i had allowed extra time to do this given the ordeal of car collection, but it made no difference at all. as i was in line in the que a couple arrived, where jumped through the que by staff and given preferential treatment and where on their way in their rental car while i waited to be served along with 2 other people. it was a pretty bad experience all around to be honest and i expected alot more. we will not be back, and we will not recommend your service. we leave next week for another trip involving a different rental car company and i am interested to see how that goes, it could hardly be worse than the experience we had with lucky car rentals...which was rather, unlucky and unfortunate! (couldnt recal exact date but it was sometime in november 2022)
Friendly, helpful staff, camper van was clean and had no issues throughout my 3 week trip. Would definitely recommend!
best price possible
My wide and our 2 and 6 year old had an excellent experience. The vehicle was clean, mechanically sound, and perfect for our family. Lucky was very reasonably priced and very helpful with anything we needed.
Very friendly people, made it all very simple. Helped us out when we couldn’t get tickets to for the ferry, sorted it all out really quickly.

Dec 12,2023We rented the campervan for three weeks and had a relatively good experience, but I 'd like to extend this comment because you get what you pay. GOOD - People in Lucky were friendly and helpful - Quick pick up and drop off - We had a problem with the back door and it was solved fast and easy BAD - The campervan was very old. Clearly it was a Jucy repainted, and had over 450.000km - The engine had no power at all, in every small hill we were overtaken even by big heavy tracks. - The interior was completely run down. Every single seat was scratched. The fridge door had to be tied up otherwise it would open in every curve. - Two days maximum without connecting to a power station, otherwise forget the fridge and the interior lights. - The engine was not noisy but the inside of the car while driving was a noise box. Impossible to have a conversation between back and front seats. - The heating system of the car didn't work, and it is really important at least to defog the windscreen, it rains quite a lot in NZ CONCLUSION As I said before, you get what you pay. We didn't have a bad experience but looking back, I think it was a risky choice. If I had to do it again I would probably choose a company with a newer campervan. But if your budget is very tied, go for it and cross your fingers.
