The staff at the office was great. The instructions took place at great speed. Maybe a bit too fast for us, being first time van renters. Our campervan served us very well during our trip, the beds were very comfortable and easy to pull out.
We had an overall mediocre experience with lucky. Our campervan was old and worn, some minor things like curtain buttons were broken. We were at a mechanic twice in the space of a month, however the customer service was very good when it came to fixing issues with the car. However, we didn't get a refund for the lost travelling time. Lucky can be recommended for anyone looking for a cheap experience. The dropoff was very easy, however the pickup took a while as the water pump didn't work. You can expect to get what you pay for.
Smooth process, great vehicle
We were very happy with the rental of the Lucky Rover camper, which we renamed Bublina. In 18 days of wandering around the South Island of New Zealand we covered 2,500 kilometers. Travel and living in the car was great, there was just enough room for three adult passengers. What we appreciated most during the trip was the fridge, the cooker and the comfortable sleeping arrangements. The ability to sleep in the car and use campsites or places to stay overnight was great and allowed us great independence and to enjoy a wonderful adventure. It was one of the most wonderful vacations.
We were on the road with this vehicle for 23 days and can therefore give ourselves an objective assessment. The vehicle is in very poor condition upholstery and all the equipment. Just dirty and disgusting. The gas stove only had one burner working, which was of course a real shame. We have no problem at all with the fact that this vehicle is old, but it can still be cared for a little better and passed on to customers. For us it was an absolute disappointment and we will not recommend this company and warn everyone about it. I now expect this company to refund me some money. A thorough basic cleaning would be necessary to simply make it a little more attractive. It's not a vehicle for working; it's one you spend your vacation in. Hopefully someone will take this to heart.
When we checked in we were asked to sign all sorts of T&Cs, one being that you return the van clean. The van was not given to us that way. The van was filthy inside. Stains on the fabric, dirty floors and was not even vacuumed. I'm glad we paid for full insurance, no worries but over all it is a lot of money for what we got. They are old vans, so go in with low expectations and make sure you check everything before your drive off or at least stay close for your first night if you need to go back. Plus side, the email support people, mechanical helpline and the driver to the airport were nice. Van got us from A to B, if you're looking for a no-thrills and noisy old van.
Absolutely unproblematic pickup and return of the rental campervan, immediate response to any service request and very friendly and helpful employees.
Like: Easy communication Good bed (for a car bed) Easy ferry booking Good Bedding and towels Easy convertable day/night setting Dislike (room for improvement): - 3% charge for international cards (not communicated in the price upfront, was written somewhere else) - Dashboard was new but in japanese and not possible to change the language (according to an emoyee of Lucky) - It was advertised with a fridge, but it is actually a cooler (which does its job) - Mobil fuel barcode was not on the key chain as advertised - One pan was not useable (rosty) so we needed to buy a new one - No cutting board was provided - The gas in the cooker was almost empty when we got it
I got a such old car there no feature really worked well. The cooling Box had an loose contact so that it was no relayable. I wasted a lot Food. The waterpump wasn‘t usable, because i was not strong enought to use the pump. To built up the bed was also very difficult although i sit with the hole Body on it. It wasn‘t funny to built this up. So i paid a lot of Money for These features compare to a normal car and then i couldn‘t use these. The car didn‘t make my Holiday better, but more complicated. I‘ve Never rented a so destroyed old car. I would Never reccommend this Company. The Service was unfriendly as well during my Pick up.
The experience with lucky rentals was very disappointing. We had to swap the first van we got because it was disgusting (huge brown stains on mattress) and smelt bad! Second van was a little bit better but also needed lots of maintenance. The side mirror was floppy so not usable, the van was totally gutless (on slight incline Max speed was 40 km/h), missing storage baskets, no seal on rear door so as soon as we drove on gravel the whole van was full of dust and had to be fully cleaned (even the dishes in the cupboards), van still smelt very bad. Most important/dangerous: we purchased a child seat for our 1 year old son, that came with the van. We assumed the car seat has been fastened to the seat because it looked ready to be used. Luckily we double checked before driving off, because the child seat was sitting loosely on the seat! And nobody informed us about it! Our child could have been killed or seriously injured! If it is their policy that they are not allowed to fasten the child seat then they have to inform the clients about it AND make it obvious e.g. put it upside down on the seat or on the floor.. Next time we will happily spend some more money and get a better campervan with a different rental company.
No worden for this anymore, Just not believeable.
Patient, helpful, well trained staff.
The actual campervan was perfect for what we needed, and we had an amazing time. However, there was quite a bit of maintenance needing to be done on our specific van. Quite a few things were broken and needing repair...glove box, tail light, sliding door not closing properly, clips for the window covers etc. Or, nearly broken and we were worried about using them in case they broke on us. The bedding that was stored up the top, damp and smelt musty, including the mattress. We arrived at our first camp site and had to air it all out before putting the covers on. There was no top sheet, just a bottom sheet and duvet. Which meant some nights were cold and I personally am not a fan of sleeping under a duvet, especially a damp, musty smelling one. If these minor repairs/alterations were done, this would have been a 5/5 review
Not Lucky at all with my rental. Old car. Filthy. Moald. Bug squashes on ceeling. No bluetooth. No phone holder. Bed's hard. Backside door incl window doesn't work. wipers old. No remote locking. Bad service. Stove works only with no wind. @Toyota 450.000 miles and still drives good!
Vans are filthy, mouldy, and have a smell you cannot get rid of no matter how many times you try to clean everything. The bed linen I was given STANK, and again I couldn't get rid of the smell even after having washed it twice. The car battery went flat within 5 days of use, and I got a flat tyre the day after. Even having purchased the "worry free" insurance, I still needed to pay to get someone come change the tyre for me. After reading all the reviews I still rented with them because by the time I booked it was the only option left. But I can assure you all the bad reviews you can read before this one do them justice.
Friendly and respectful support from company's representatives.
Great car, very well prepared and equipped. Extra bonus- free shuttle bus to the airport!
I had a pleasent ride and car was just perfect for me Thanks
The customer service was outstanding. Van was awesome and we created many great memories with it. Love NZ and love Lucky rentals. Thanks, team for being a part of our journey! We will definitely be back👍
