Oyster was absolutely great, no faults at all. Very safe and easy website to organise a trip through with great resources and destination managers! Thank you Oyster!
Well organized and fun trip. Loads of support from the office (emails, phone calls, pre departure briefing day) before we flew out there. The 'my oyster' web platform also keeps track of everything (program details, flights, itinerary) for you. The Indian staff were lovely and very helpful. They took us to some interesting places (night markets, cafes) and temples and let us play with their dog. Rajiv is the best tour guide and his stories in the car to the hospital were a daily highlight. Staying in an apartment in their building gave us a homestay experience and the food was amazing. I miss the food. At the hospital placement students got to rotate around the Emergency Room and Operating Theatre. They observed trauma care including dengue fever and strokes and surgeries such as emergency caesarian and hysterectomy. The medical staff are English speaking and very friendly. I would recommend this trip to any young people considering a career in medicine and wanting to see a different culture.
Honestly one of the most memorable experiences of my life, had no problems or worries because of their great staff
I went to Romania feeling very prepared thanks to the help of Anne and the Oyster Worldwide team. Once I got there, Razvan and the current volunteers were very welcoming and the accommodation was very modern and you're never far from something to do! I really can't fault this trip at all. I spent 2 months working in Romania, and Razvan even helped to organise for myself and another volunteer to spend a week at a local dog shelter. If you have a query, Razvan is excellent and is always there to help you. The bear sanctuary was a lovely place to work. Spending the day amongst the bears and wolves was a dream come true, and watching them play around in pools and up in the trees was breathtaking. I can't recommend this trip with Oyster Worldwide enough. They look after you before, during and after your stay, and are a very organised and lovely group of people. Thank you for such an amazing opportunity!
Brilliant service, excellent staff, overall great experience.
Whilst at the project, we were challenged with helping with the completion of building the hatchery and ranchito, and every evening we would go out patrolling the beach looking for turtles whoโs eggs we could either relocate on the beach or into the hatchery. There were many challenges such as finding the enthusiasm to help with the building in the hot weather after being out in the early hours of the morning on patrol, and I enjoyed the challenge of communicating with the local research assistant who only spoke Spanish and by the end of the 2 weeks, I managed to remember enough Spanish to have a conversation with him. Some of the highlights were the wild nest hatching on the beach at sunset, and the experience of putting the first nest into the hatchery for this year. Overall it was a great experience and Oyster was great in helping to organise this and make it easy to do as well as making it run smoothly.
I just wanted to say thank you so much to Anne and the team at Oyster for facilitating Louise's wonderful trip to Costa Rica. She had a truly fabulous time and continues to tell us different experiences she had. The confidence its also given her is remarkable. Although she didn't see a nest hatch she certainly said the highlight of the trip was the work on the night patrols. The way Anne supported not only Louise, but both my husband and I was friendly but always professional and she showed a genuine interest in all of us no matter what our (my) questions were. Thank you Louise is already saving up and talking about what she can do next year after her A levels so I'm sure she will be doing another Oyster trip again. Also her friends are very interested now. Wishing you well and once again thank you so very much Best wishes and kind regards Clare and Mark
I recently spent three weeks volunteering with Turtle Trax in Costa Rica and it was one of the best experiences of my life! The volunteer work, focused on the conservation of Olive Ridley turtles, was just incredible - this included nightly beach patrols looking for turtles/nests, collecting eggs and then burying them safely in the hatchery. I was fortunate enough to see my first turtle on my first patrol and then the following morning, I was woken up at sunrise to go and watch a nest of babies hatching on the beach! I honestly couldn't believe my luck! Some daytime jobs were also allocated on the weekly rota, but I found that most of my days were free to relax and explore the local area. Most of my free time was spent sunbathing, swimming in the sea and hanging out in the hammock, as well as playing games with the other volunteers. I also got the opportunity to go horse riding on the beach on my final day which is something I've always wanted to do and was the perfect way to end my trip! I also have to quickly mention the food - we had two lovely Costa Rican ladies who cooked our lunch and evening meals each day. The meals were delicious and surprisingly varied, for example I hadn't been expecting to see pizza or burgers while I was out there! Oyster have been amazing throughout the whole process - Anne was so nice and helpful, always quick to respond to any questions I had along the way. When it came to my departure, I felt confident and ready for the adventure ahead and that was all thanks to the great service I received! I would highly recommend Oyster to anyone and will most likely book another trip with them myself in the future!
Before departing for Palampur, Sarah made sure Kathryn was well prepared and was extremely helpful and understanding. The experience Kathryn gained volunteering in the hospital was amazing and very eye opening. The Indian volunteers were also extremely helpful and hospitable. A huge experience for Kathryn and one she will never forget. Seeing the Taj Mahal, home of Dali Lama, tea plantations were all great experiences. Kathryn has made new some lovely new friends on this trip and I am sure they will keep in touch. Overall an amazing experience.
Oyster were amazing help at all stages of my adventure to Romania. Anne and Jon were extremely helpful whilst booking the trip and Razvan couldn't have been any more accommodating whilst in Brasov. I would recommend volunteering in the bear sanctuary to anybody, especially if you had any desire in working with animals or have a passion for wildlife. Getting to be in the company of the bears everyday was an absolute privilege. Couldn't have asked for more.
Choosing to travel with Oyster was a fantastic decision that allowed me to experience so many new things. My experience with Oyster was such a positive one, they were organised, caring and enthusiastic to help me plan a trip of a lifetime! Working with the bears in Libearty Bear Sanctuary Romania was incredible and was made possible by them. I would recommend Oyster to anyone. Thank you Anne, Jon and Razvan for making it all possible!
Organised trip hassle free and was even better than I expected
Offers amazing experiences! Took part in the veterinary experience. Thought the information about the experience was a bit misleading about the amount of time youโd be spending with the vet- only 2.30pm-5pm Tuesday and Thursday. Overall a great experience because made lots of amazing lifelong friends! The vet experience ran alongside the big 5 conservation project which most people took part in. The locals are very friendly and happy people!
Oysterworld have a very well structured and informative website which was invaluable whilst preparing for my trip. The contacts there were very helpful and super friendly too.
Been back a few days now from Riverside Animal Rehabilitation centre and can't rate the experience enough! Had a fantastic time with my 16 year old daughter who simply didn't want to leave. We loved getting stuck in about the work, whilst surrounded by animals, and despite our short stay, felt we contributed well to every task. The time with the Vervet Monkeys and Baboons couldn't be more rewarding, we could join them in their enclosures any free time that we had, and the daily Baboon walk was an amazing experience every time. The meals were put on by the lovely owners and were hearty, delicious and always served with a little bit of humour on the side :) I'd like to thank Anne and Oyster worldwide for giving me the confidence and trust in them to take my daughter on such an adventure, and literally never felt alone or unsure at any point in the process running up to our trip. There was so much help, information and guidance prior to the trip and having the added comfort of the 'My Oyster' account with literally everything at your fingertips to keep you right is the perfect tool. Both my daughter and I would highly recommend Oyster worldwide for their fantastic trip opportunities and ensuring a smooth and seamless trip all round. Thanks again, Sharon & Millie
I volunteered at Riverside Wildlife sanctuary last November and while the owners were friendly, unfortunately, we had an awful experience. We made the effort to phone Georgie from Oyster worldwide and ask her to find out if the sanctuary was family friendly as I was going with my 48 year old mother and my sister. We also explained to Georgie that we would like to know how much cleaning is involved as we do not want to clean all day, we were hoping to be with the monkeys for most of the week as that is why we chose it. Georgie explained that there would be SOME cleaning. However, when we arrived at Riverside we were told that we were not allowed to work together as a family as "it can create problems" and thus I did not see them much for the whole week. We then worked all day everyday, mostly cleaning, including heavy lifting that my mum cannot due to her back. We only spent around 2 hours with the baboons, not monkeys, as you can only go in with the baboons and we were working all day until 4 and the cage was closed at 6 and usually full of volunteers. We were shouted at by the team leader volunteers who had been there for a while, which most newcomers were horrified at. You are not asked to help you are shouted at to "put box over there", "you work now", and a German volunteer was particularly interested in bullying my mum. While you may think that sounds dramatic, forcing my mum to do heavy lifting and then laughing at her with the other volunteers is a form of bullying! Nothing was done about this by the owners. However, they themselves would humiliate volunteers at dinner for the strangest things. As for the sanctuary itself, they have only ever released one group of baboons and 3 babies and 2 teen baboons died in the one week we were there which makes me question how much of a sanctuary it is. It is easy to see why these babies died though as they allow volunteers to drink until late and then deal with the baboons in the most lazy and unhygienic ways. I have waited a long time to say something as I always thought I should just leave it as I am not a complainer. However. I spent over ยฃ1000 for a week of torment. Please make sure you either pick a different voluntary company to go with or beg them to tell you the truth. Asking for the truth will not work. Sorry.
I recently got back from my trip to South Africa volunteering at the wildlife rehabilitation sanctuary with the monkeys. It's the first time I've done something like this and Oyster made me feel totally prepared for before going and Anne was great and quick to respond. I would definitely recommend Oyster, for anyone looking to have a similar experience with an ethical company! Thanks!
We had an excellent experience working with Oyster. From the beginning, Anne was responsive to all our questions and gave us a very good idea about what to expect from the program. And she was excellent with coordinating all the logistics for us. At first we did not think that we could find a date that would work, but she went out of her way to find a way to make it work for us and the organization where we volunteered.
An amazing experience that Iโll never forget! I loved seeing the difference between our hospitals and theirs. Definitely made friends for life.

Aug 28,2018Oyster Worldwide provided an incredible experience from start to finish. All the staff, in the UK and onsite in Costa Rica, were extremely knowledgeable and answered any and all questions regarding my trip and made it extremely enjoyable and memorable. Definitely recommend to anyone interested in taking part in a volunteering project or exploring a more untouched area of Costa Rica!!
