They provided a lot of help with getting set up when you arrive and with helping you find a job. The assistance pre-flight was also extremely useful. The activities planned in the first week were a lot of fun and the discounts you get also come in handy. The tour guide could have been more energetic though
Oyster were amazing. They made my 3 months away totally stress free and I had peace of mind during the whole planning process! So well organised and I wasn’t at all let down by the support I received. Jon was great and his communication was fantastic whenever I had any queries. I can’t recommend them highly enough!
Absolutely incredible experience with Oyster. Very good communication and lovely people to work with, would recommend to anyone looking to take part in an exciting volunteering experience!
Honeslty the trip is AMAZING. The wonderful sites, the kind people, the night life, food and drink. Also I cannot get over how cheap Tokyo was. I cannot wait to come back already. The Hostels have exceeded everyone expectations. They're so nice some of them seem more like hotels. Also I cannot praise our tour guide enough she was fantastic. I will definitely book another trip with Oyster worldwide
I had the most amazing experience of my life time!! They were so helpful and it’s so well done you don’t ever feel like your alone! I went completely alone the first time I’d done anything like that and they were all so helpful getting my through it all. The getting back was tricky but that was no ones fault. They were all very helpful with the issues in Costa Rica at the time! Definitely recommend
With excellent communication, Oyster was very good in making me ready to go. There were all sorts of documents and items that I needed to take with me and before my departure, Oyster had ensured I had all of this. I felt comfortable and ready to go. I was put at ease as any questions I had were answered. Whilst the trip through oyster was quite expensive, the help provided before, during and after my trip over all areas/ topics was very much worth it. A couple of information points could do with updating though. Thank you!
I just returned from an awesome experience volunteering with an elephant conservation project in Sri Lanka through Oyster. I found the orientation and support from Oyster to be excellent. It was great speaking with Anne when I was still deciding whether or not to go, because she had actually been to the project and could answer my specific questions. Seamless experience from orientation through arrival to the project.
My review is 3/4 star because there were ups and downs. In general I had a great time on the Costa Rica Turtle Conservation Project. Playa San Miguel is the most beautiful unspoilt beach, it's very magical. I enjoyed the night patrols, walking by moonlight, seeing the constellations, milky way, shooting stars & some of the lightening storms were spectacular. The other volunteers, researchers & locals were all lovely & really good fun and their commitment to the project was truly inspiring. The home cooked food was incredible, we ate extremely well. Part of the location's beauty is that it is so remote so you need to be resourceful about keeping busy during the day as most of the work & excitement is on the night patrols. It's great, if you want to get away from it all and you do literally. You'll be out walking up and down the beach in the majority of weather conditions on night patrol. Due to being out in a particularly bad lightening storm with little visibility, I badly sprained my ankle. This did affected my time there and after almost 3 months it still hasn't healed fully. During my 10 days, I saw 1 turtle, on my last night patrol. It was also difficult it to partake in activities or trips beyond the project. There was nothing organised during the time I was there even though I did attempt both before and during my time there to be proactive as suggested but communication and transport were so limited. I left earlier than the 2 weeks so that I could do my own. Transport is difficult unless you have hired a jeep & local taxi's are very expensive. It was great to support a local conservation project and meet the local people employed by its work. The leaders and researchers were passionate about reducing environmental impacts such as plastic waste and light pollution. In general I loved the experience and have some wonderful memories and I would consider doing more conservation work. I'd recommend you go with an open mind!
From start to finish nothing was too much of a problem, there was no such thing as a silly question. I haven't travelled in years and it was the first time I had done it by myself. Oyster's UK office were superb at answering any question, inquiry or problem I had. They were exceedingly helpful and very easy to get in contact with. When I was out there I was looked after incredibly well and had the time of my life! Just wish it had lasted longer!
Working at the wildlife centre was an amazing experience, I made so many friends and learnt so much about animals and how to safeguard them! I would definitely recommend.
I had the best week ever in Romania volunteering at the bear sanctuary and can't wait to return. The trip exceeded all my expectations. I loved my time at the bear sanctuary and really appreciated the balance between the work and having lots of time to watch the bears. You will work both in the morning and the afternoon but have plenty of time in between to enjoy the sanctuary and spend time observing the bears. The food prep is smelly, dirty (and fun if you go with the right attitude!) but not strenuous at all. The sanctuary is based on a steep hillside so be prepared to walk a lot and have your leg muscles well and truly worked out! If you take it at your own pace it really isn't too bad, and you've got the bears to keep you company the whole way up! The sanctuary is a purely wonderful place and does such great work, it was a pleasure and a privilege to be a very small part of their community for a week. Braşov is gorgeous and a really lovely place to relax after a hard day's work. There are so many nice places to eat, drink and look round. As for the accommodation, that definitely exceeded my expectations too! It's a beautiful apartment and great central location. Everything is very clean and there are all the mod cons you'll require to prepare meals etc. I have to say a huge Thankyou to Anne as I went into the experience with no worries or nervousness as I knew everything was well and truly taken care of. Razvan was a huge help throughout the week in keeping us all informed and prepared about the itinerary, and he ensures everything is taken care of to ensure a seamless experience. At no point before or during the trip did I feel uncertain or worried about anything, as I knew Anne and Razvan are both making sure everything is running smooth! I'm absolutely going to return to this project and can't wait to do so. If you're considering going, I would encourage you to just book and I promise you'll have no regrets! Every aspect of my trip exceeded expectations, thankyou so much Oyster!
The booking with Oyster was very easy. Working at the sanctuary was beautiful. The apartment in Brasov is central in the old town and pleasant. For all German speaking is a short summary of our trip following.
I only have one word to descried the trip: phenomenal! The whole experience was flawless in every way, from the people at the reserve, to the tasks we undertook, to the company I had whilst their and the friendships I've made. Although it is nice to be back home and with my family,I can't tell you how much I am missing South Africa and all the people there- it's especially strange to not be woken up to the sounds of lions roaring ridiculously early every morning! I can honestly tell you that the whole experience has been amazing and I know I will treasure the memories I have made for the rest of my life! The rangers at the reserve were incredibly helpful and made us feel like part of the family immediately, the accommodation was amazing (and Roger the cat made evenings very fun),every activity that was put on for us there was unforgettable and I know the friends I have made whilst there will stay with me for life, to the point that we are already planning our return to the reserve in two years time to see how the grass banks we planted are doing! I'm running out of words to try and express how wonderful it was!
Oyster were very helpful in organising our trip to Costa Rica doing volunteer work with turtles. The instructions they gave were clear and concise and the information provided was very detailed. I think my only tiny reservation was that this experience is clearly aimed at gap year students rather than families and the programme is targeted at them. If there hadn't been another family there at the same time, we would have felt rather outnumbered by very young teenagers. Some of the participants were only 17 at the site. Also, this trip can be organised directly with the volunteer organisation if you are comfortable to do that and then it works out a little cheaper.
In Romania I had the chance to help the nurse with her daily duties in the morning, which included: going to patients homes changing wound dressing that are known as bed sores, which result from the friction between the bed surface and the skin, due to a lack of movement; and I would also be checking their blood pressure manually, and their heart rate with the help of an electronic device. In the afternoon, I would then shadow the physiotherapist, and go with him into the patient’s homes and watch him do different types of treatments, like massages to keep the blood flowing in immobilized patients, and electrotherapy which helps the muscles relax. Some of the challenges that I faced were communication with the patients, as I did not speak Romanian other than counting to ten, asking how they are, and greeting them. Lastly I would like to add that, aside from the medical assistance that I provided, I feel that I made the patients a little happier by talking to them in any way I could, as they would not be able to leave their houses and interact with many people, and therefore I feel that I have brought the outside to them.
Very nice course, nice place, nice teacher
Excellent communication- provided me with everything I could ever need and I felt v ready for the trip. Had a fantastic trip volunteering- I highly recommend oyster!
Oyster helped me organise a Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteering service in Thailand and I found the entire process very easy and logical, which helped me have a great experience on location. Would use the service they provide again.
Had a great time in South Africa volunteering, everything went smoothly during the 4 weeks and would definitely recommend to anyone

Oct 05,2018This is the second volunteer trip I have booked through Oyster Worldwide. From the beginning of planning to booking to the time I was away as well as on my return Oyster has been in touch and very supportive/helpful. Everything is well organized and taken care of-worry free volunteer travel. My actual volunteer experience at the Rhino Sanctuary was awesome! Time to save up for my next volunteer vacation which I will likely consider booking through Oyster Worldwide again!
