I've been using Rent4Sure for a number of years for tenant referencing. The direct submissions are the easiest I've ever used and the staff support is excellent. They offer clear instructions and a good choice of products. They are fast and reliable and I highly recommend them to everyone. I get regular calls from Matthew Glover to see if there's anything he can help me with and if I need him, he's always at the end of the line. What an appallingly intransigent, intrusive unreasonable outfit. I am trying to act as guarantor for my son who is on a deadline to rent a flat-share. Having supplied all the information originally requested - multiple proofs of residence (moved house recently), passport, pay slips, detailed bank statements showing much of my lifetime savings - I'm then informed that I need a bank statement dated within 7 days of today. Alternatively, I could supply a screenshot and received an email stating: "Further to our phone call can you please send us a screenshot of your online banking showing your available balance and the date within the last 7 days. The date will need to be on the online banking page somewhere, we cannot accept the date from the computer task bar." I complied with this immediately and sent an email requesting their confirmation - guess what, no reply (they claim to have left a voicemail rather than reply to an email because it's their policy!). I followed up with a phone call the following afternoon to be told that they couldn't accept the screenshot that they had requested because it didn't have my name and account number (none of the Virgin One detailed screens show that information for security reasons). But as per the verbatim quote from their email above, that was not specified (nor possible). I was then informed that it is my responsibility to supply a statement complying with Rent4Sure's standards (irrespective of my bank's) which must be no more than 7 days old. RBS Virgin One do not produce online statements on demand and paper statements are produced at calendar month end, printed and mailed to customers. They are NEVER less that 7 days old when received. I have wasted hours collating information to try and ensure that the process does not hinder closing the deal, but to no avail. I have talked to my bank and requested an interim statement - default lead time 4 days! Not looking good for the deadline. Try asking them when they destroy your data - "about 6 months after it's no longer required". When might that be? 6 months after the end of the contract. Is an email confirmation sent to the data supplier upon destruction? - OF COURSE NOT! We are expected to trust Rent4Sure because they've got certificates and procedures - pause and think about the recent Colonial Pipeline ransomware story in the US - I bet they had certificates of their data procedures too!
We have been dealing with Rent4Sure for 3 years now and they have always provided a competent and thorough referencing service. As multiple landlords its very important to our business that we have the right tenants living in our properties and we have found that our quality of tenants has improved on the back of better references being completed. Our account manager Kris Arnold has always been really helpful and quick to respond to any queries.
