Rhode Island Student Loan Authority (RISLA) is a non-profit quasi-state authority that has been providing lower-cost higher education financing solutions since 1981 and free college planning services since 1998. Also provided by RISLA is RIScholarships.org, a free online scholarship search tool to help match students with local scholarships. Additionally, RISLA also offers the Knowledge for College Scholarship, which awards 50 students $2,000 each to help pay for college expenses. For students trying to reduce their interest rates on existing student loans, RISLA also offers low-cost student loan refinancing options. RISLA is with you every step of your college journey, walking you through the college planning process, educating families on obtaining financial aid, and providing tools and resources that help families make informed and responsible borrowing choices to help pay for education.
Whoever we talked to with a question had the right answer which made the whole application process much easier.
The staff person went through the CSS Profile information I had previously entered and was quite helpful in bringing an alternate perspective on what figures should be entered for some of the questions. Much appreciated. I would also suggest to others that you spend the time and try to complete all of it ahead of time and have the office review it like I did - it makes the process go much faster.
Application and document process all on line. Easy to reach helpful staff when we had questions or needed help.
The RISLA team was very helpful in letting me know what paperwork was needed and what could be done in my particular situation to get the job done.
Easy to follow instructions; clear expectations; appropriate timelines. Good communication and professional assistance when interaction was initiated
I filed a Refinance loan for my student loans. RISLA was very responsive when I had questions and gave me the best interest rate I was able to find. I would recommend RISLA to anyone in search of a great refinance company!
My coordinator was so pleasant, helpful, and kind! I was able to rely on her during this stressful and confusing time when I really need someone who can help me. I know I'm not alone when I say that the college and financial process makes me feel vulnerable and insecure. My coordinator made me feel incredibly prepared and on the right track.
So kind and helpful two yrs in a row. Fit me in last min as well.
Every person I spoke to there was helpful, knowledgeable and very friendly.
Easy to use.
Good rates, easy to deal with, but most importantly, when I called I spoke with an actual person, not an automated service. That meant a lot to ms
This loam, which I cosigned, was for my granddaughter who needed it to complete her studies for her teaching certificate, which she will make a fabulous teacher. My granddaughter did all the paperwork and talking with you to make sure it was completed. Thank you.
Our experience started off well and went downhill fast. The original appointment was scheduled to Compleat the CSS profile for both custodial and non-custodial as we were both advised to bring our financial documentation. The appointment ended suddenly when we were advised our advisor had another appointment. We attempted to complete the application at home but had difficulty. We called the 800 number for assistance and after an hour and a half on the phone we had gotten nowhere. Ultimately, we were able to make a second appointment with our advisor but not without being told parents weren't eligible for second appointments for CSS profiles and RISLA does not assist non-custodial parents. I don't know if either is true, but I certainly hope this is not RISLA policy.
Nowhere in any document does it say that I am still required to send my previous loan financiers payment after my new refinance loan has been disbursed. Why am I still being harassed for payment by loan providers RISLA supposedly sent a check to? Your documentation is wildly unclear about my payment required during the month of disbursement. Please help me understand why my disbursement has yet to be received. Why I am currently being told by my previous loan financiers that my disbursement will be held until I pay them for a month in my disbursement period? It should be a part of the total amount RISLA should be paying.
Excellent customer service, calls and e-mails are answered promptly and effectively. Clear and direct communications throughout the whole process. Highly recommend!
Not friendly or easy to use
Easy to apply. Fast approval. Competitive interest rates. Highly recommend.
So helpful and made the process so much easier!
Really very easy process and quick response.

Dec 01,2023Overall a great experience. The only thing that would have made it better was I wish there was a dashboard you could log into to easily check the status of your loan and what step you are at in the process because at times it got a little confusing.
