Rhode Island Student Loan Authority (RISLA) is a non-profit quasi-state authority that has been providing lower-cost higher education financing solutions since 1981 and free college planning services since 1998. Also provided by RISLA is RIScholarships.org, a free online scholarship search tool to help match students with local scholarships. Additionally, RISLA also offers the Knowledge for College Scholarship, which awards 50 students $2,000 each to help pay for college expenses. For students trying to reduce their interest rates on existing student loans, RISLA also offers low-cost student loan refinancing options. RISLA is with you every step of your college journey, walking you through the college planning process, educating families on obtaining financial aid, and providing tools and resources that help families make informed and responsible borrowing choices to help pay for education.

Every time I call, which has been at least 10 times, I get a knowledgeable, kind person almost immediately. I need answers to my questions and the people I speak with are knowledgeable and helpful. I did my research and RISLA has been rated one of the top. Student loans and interest rates these days require due diligence. Before I even filled out a loan application, I called them and asked them questions and they were helpful. Not like the horror stories of other loan companies.

Our Loan Representative was very helpful, patient, & punctual throughout the entire refinancing process - he was fantastic! Although he was great, the process in general was extremely difficult to navigate. We were asked to upload the same documents multiple times, different documents multiple times, and it was overall hard to get an answer on what was actually needed and missing. Our process took months to complete - most of which was back and forth with underwriting. If we were given explicit instructions from them with what exactly was needed we could have accomplished our refinancing much quicker. As a consumer who has never done this before dealing with people who do this everyday, we are left very confused the majority of the time which was unexpected. Again our loan associate was amazing, he tried to help every time something came up, it was more the process in general that was very drawn out and frustrating.

I co-signed for my daughter. It's the first time we needed extra money from a private loan. After much research, we found RISLA came out on top. We found the process to be very easy, straightforward and fast. We also received status updates throughout the process which helped as both as it was something new we were diving into. I would highly recommend working with RISLA if you find yourself in a position needing some extra money for school
