Went on a trip to Sri Lanka all was well organised, food was sorted volunteers all very friendly.
Had a wonderful 2 weeks in Sri Lanka, so many experienced that i’ve never had before or even done anything like. The volunteers that came with us were lovely and always helpful. Would 100% recommend to anyone.
Trip was well organised and had a great time volunteering
The whole trip was a once in a lifetime experience, everything we did was perfectly planned and we managed to fit in an amazing amount of activities over 2 weeks!
Had the most amazing 5 weeks in Sri Lanka - didn’t want to leave at the end!! The mental health programme was really well ran and I really enjoyed all of the activities and volunteering. The tour was the highlight for me! I got to see so much and Scarlett was a great coordinator- super organised and was really approachable! I would definitely book with Travelteer again :)
I had an amazing time volunteering with Travelteer and had the best time on coast 2 coast tour! Scarlet and Alex were amazing coordinators and made the experience unforgettable!
Had the most amazing time made great friends. Coordinator Scarlett was so friendly and reliable dealt with some tough situation really well. Overall lived up to my expectations.
I had the best 3 weeks in Sri Lanka volunteering for the marine and wildlife conservation programme. I really enjoyed all the volunteering activities and wish I had booked to stay longer! The coast 2 coast tour was such an amazing experience and I’m so glad I had this opportunity. Scarlett and Alex were our coordinators and the best tour guides, couldn’t thank them enough for everything they did during my time in Sri Lanka. My experience wouldn’t have been the same without them!
I spent my summer on morocco with travelteer and honestly says the experience was amazing. Meeting other volunteers, helping out the community, and teaching were all great experiences. Our travel supervisor (Paula) was nothing but incredibly supportive and friendly, really helping to make the trip spectacular. I would recommend travelteer to anyone looking to do some international experience. Morocco was also an wonderful place to visit with generous and friendly people, a beautiful culture and language, and amazing views in the Atlas Mountains.
Enjoyed the tour a lot :) Had an amazing coordinator (Scarlet). Very sweet and welcoming. And always there when we needed her ❤️
Had an amazing time, Scarlett (the coordinator) made the whole trip!!
Coast to coast tour was incredible, Nalin and Deshan were amazing, and Scarlett was the best coordinator!! Great experience all round!
Volunteering was rewarding, the best part was the coast to coast tour. Seeing the island was amazing and our coordinator scarlet made the experience so fun!
I found my 2 weeks of volunteering to be an amazing experience for myself. The team at Travelteer, particularly the in country rep Paula, did an amazing job at organising trips away on the weekends, to places like Marrakesh, Cassablanca and Rabat which I'll remember for my whole life. The children I taught during my volunteering were great company, and made the experience even more enjoyable. It was interesting to see a completely different way of life in the village in Morocco as compared to what I would be used to in the UK. I'm glad that I've done the 2 weeks in Morocco. Would 100% recommend this trip to others.
If you are thinking about going on the Sri Lanka Travelteer trip, please read my review. I volunteered and went on the tour in July 2024 Hikkaduwa. I have thought very carefully about my experiences and have tried to write a review that is as helpful as possible. PREDEPARTURE SUPPORT positives: - felt secure as I could reach help quickly and had support with booking things. Most of the information was at the talk though. negatives: - there are a lot of 'hidden fees' that start to rack up. eg. my visa cost me an extra $170, my fundraising was an extra £150, my taxi to and from volunteering cost me almost £130, the food I had to buy in the country came to $250 for 3 weeks, tuktuks to and from the volunteer house due to its location came to $35 and clothes washing done at the volunteer house cam to almost $22. So make sure you prepare for all of these things, also bear in mind that most people said they spend upwards of £200 buying items in preparation for this trip. VOLUNTEERING positives: - I felt very safe doing the volunteering the sri lankan staff are absolutely amazing and are so kind and helpful. - if you are volunteering for a while they let you try or change to other courses so that you don't get bored and learn a lot more. - you get a lot of free time to recover which you need due to the high heat. you only volunteer for around 4 hours a day ( not including travel times). - it is an amazing opportunity to do things you otherwise would not do. - I think a lot of the really negative reviews come from people with poor attitudes. This is NOT a holiday with your parents and you will be in a third world country so adjust your expectations and do your research. - there are not many rules but as long as you follow them you will probably be safe. negatives: - The co-ordinators at travelteer are given NO training prior to coming out here. They are also only paid £200 a month and are expected to pay for their own flights out. This did not sit well with me at all as it seems quite exploitative. In adidition to this some of the coordinators were amazing and went above and beyond ( Sam and Reese thanks guys you were amazing !) and some were useless and did absolutely nothing which causes issues when you need them to organise things. I understand a lot of the coordinators are aged 19-22 but still. - another issue is that the volunteering courses can be overcrowded and this means that there isn't enough jobs for people to do. The marine and wildlife is always overcrowded and this means you can end up standing around doing nothing and feeling silly. - some of the volunteering felt a little performative as opposed to genuinely helpful. ACCOMODATION positives: - the staff are lovely negatives: - there is a difference in the quality of accommodation depending on which house you stay in. Travelteer will always prioritise the university organised groups and move everyone else around depending on this. Pool house is best with ocean house next and lake house last. - the air conditioners leak and work sporadically, the electrical adaptors are different depending gone what room you are in, you will be living in a 6 person bunk bed room, the bunk beds are loose with paint peeling off that will get in your hair and on your skin, the bathrooms are unfinished on the walls and the plumbing has issues. There are no shelves of storage spaces. The locks are rusted and the doors come off their hinges. - the food provided by travelteer is not great but I realise we don't pay a lot for it so I am not judging. however it is worth noting that you don't eat any protein from these meals the whole time you are there so bring protein powder if this bothers you. - stray dogs that bite are allowed to live on the premises. - hygiene regarding food is spotty at best. TOUR positives: - for the amount of money we paid, our group saw a lot of the country. The tour guide and driver Nalin was fantastic. - I loved all the walking in nature. - be prepared for a lot of long bus journeys. negatives: - we kept going to places that were just opportunities for us to spend money rather than anything cultural?! In particular the wood workshop, the gem 'museum' (not a museum just a shop) and the spice garden to name a few. - there needs to be a clear plan or timetable please !!! - A lot of us on the tour felt stressed out and unbalanced because we didn't know how to prepare for activities or know exactly what was happening when in advance. It shouldn't be too hard to make an itinerary that people can have access to. - you have to share a room with 3 other people which was not made clear on the booking. - the food is not very good ( rice and noodles with no protein for lunch and dinner) so make sure you bring extra money to compensate for this by eating out. - being a women is quite a difficult experience some of the daily tour guides can be a bit inappropriate.
Had a great 2 weeks volunteering in the Moroccan Atlas Mountains, the pre-departure support was great with quick replies from my travelteer in advisor. The accommodation, food and in country travelteer rep Paula was great. I had such a good time volunteering in the village and going on trips at the weekend.I will definitely look into doing more travel experiences.
The experience has been one I’ll remember. I’ve met some amazing people who I hope will be friends for life. The group was amazing getting on really well. I’ve enjoyed the morning activities and helping to make a difference in the community but I’ve also loved the teaching! It has been so much fun and I’m glad I’ve done the 2 weeks with Travelteer in Morocco. Paula has been an amazing rep/leader who has been there for everyone and been our personal photographer, she was amazing!
I had an amazing time volunteering in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. The accommodation was comfortable, the staff and locals were also a pleasure to be around. I enjoyed the work style of the Berbers and learning more about their day to day. I would recommend this experience as it was ultimately one of the best decisions I’ve made!
I have had the most incredible and thought provoking month in Sri Lanka! Being able to do hands-on conservation work amongst the local community was a unique and rewarding experience made possible by the fantastically hardworking team at Travelteer. The coordinators are passionate and supportive; in particular Reece and Carys were incredible accommodating and willing to help. I would recommend this experience to anyone hoping to immerse themselves in a new culture and make an impact!
