Scammers. Do not pay at all
I'm mulling over whether or not Copyright Agent is a complete scam company or just a predatory fishing business that's legal to operate but ethically bankrupt. I'm a trusting person, but there are so many red flags with these guys, I don't even know where to begin. For me though, it started with an email from them saying we had a photo up of theres on our website. I went and checked on the photo and there was a page that was built on the platform, but not linked to our site, which the previous owner had made. I actually didn't know that a page that is not linked to the site could somehow be found on the internet but, perhaps it can. So Copyright Agent said we used their photo and we now owed them $900. After finding the non-linked page, I deleted it and ignored their email, given that so many commenters had accused them of being scammers, I figured, best to not engage. Soon after, I got another email saying basically the same thing as their initial message. I have to assume this was an automated email because they shared the now dead link to the page, without achknolege that the photo had been taken down, and the page removed. This was a bit of a red flag or me as it means they didn't take the time to check. About a week later, I got a call from a very nice sounding lady at Copyright Agent, and I chatted with her for a while. I explained my situation and said that a lot of things could happen in life, but me paying them $900, sure doesn't seem like one of them. Shortly after, I got an email from them saying she had good news, and that they were offering me a settlement for $750. The thing is, they're saying that they're working for a company called ALAMY, which also has a 1 star rating and endless comments accusing them of being scammers too... Another interesting tidbit is Alamy is selling the use of the photo for $49, but they want me to pay $750 for unknowingly using the photo without paying? There are lots of other red flags with these guys. I'm muling over the idea of a class action lawsuit against them. Looking at the comments here, it seems I might be able to get some people in on that with me.
Scammers trying to make me pay for a picture. Not happening.
I settled with them on a lesser amount than their first demand, and prepared to send them the payment. I then discovered that the account they wanted me to pay into is held in Lithuania (BIC/SWIFT: REVOLT21). Either that or give them a payment through my credit card. Why on earth would a "Danish" company hold a bank account in Lithuania? I smell a scam. Unless they provide a legitimate account in Denmark, I won't be sending them a cent. Copyright Agent have all the hallmarks of a copyright troll in eastern europe seeking to scam gullible people.
Although this is a registered business, their aggressive and scummy way of operating means this company is essentially a scam. My organization was recently targeted by Copyright Agent for an image we had purchased the rights to. It's important to note that CA is just a tech start up. While they make vague claims around legal ramifications, they are registered as a technology company and have no jurisdiction or legal power. Note some of their responses here, whinging about violators "taking food off the tables of creators" and other such nonsense. Firms with the law behind them don't need to make unhinged emotional appeals on review sites; they just get on with it. On to Copyright Agent's aggressive and scummy tactics. They use software to troll the internet for copyrighted images, then send exorbitant invoices to those they deem to be in violation. But given the number of complaints here by people using Creative Commons, licensed, and even images they took themselves, the software doesn't seem to work. In our case, they notified us through an email address seemingly picked at random that I doubt is often monitored. Then when they didn't receive a response in a week, they doubled the amount they were trying to extort from us due to "increased admin costs." As they admit in their emails, this company doesn't even have phone lines. What exactly are these admin costs?? Their wording is aggressive, meant to scare you into paying up fast under threat of legal action. As others have mentioned, if you actually are using an image you don't have the rights to, best course of action is probably to quietly remove it, don't respond to Copyright Agent, and mark their emails as spam. These days you can't swing a cat without hitting someone trying to scam you. Don't let them.
The Copyright Agent asked us to pay for an image that was royalty free on unsplash.com. They sent me 3 emails and aggressively threatened us with legal action. What a spam
Fraud and attempted extortion.
A company in the spirit of clout chasers.
As a media agency working with thousands of pieces of content, it's important for us to diligently and effectively pursue copyright infringements. We have worked with Copyright Agent for almost 2 years, and they have been super helpful in helping us combat infringements of our content. They are a professional team and handle claims efficiently and sensitively when needed.
Absolutely untrustworthy. I had a claim around a year ago and never paid it. Nothing happened. Trust the other reviews. Update: am based in Canada. They are incorrect.
Fuld tilfredshed herfra Med venlig hilsen Gitte
Copyright is an important part of the photo industry and it´s also protected by law. And Copyright Agent is a serious and professional company that works to help photographers and photo agencies, who make a living from their work with images and photojournalism, to protect the copyright.
Copyright Agent is a must-use service for any professional photographer. We could not be happier with our collaboration. The no-cure-no-pay model makes it super easy to get the needed assistance with protecting our copyright and getting paid for our work. Unlike many of the false claims by other reviewers, they are very much a serious company and not a scam. The fact that there are 90% 1-star reviews for this company is only because the copyright infringers (those who steal the photos) rate their experience as bad. Of course, it's not a positive experience to be on the receiving end of a bill after having illegally used someone else's work...
Copyright infringement has been a major problem for us and our photographers over many years, as an increasing number of individuals and businesses steal images for their websites and social media. Unlicensed images mean our photographers are not able to recoup the costs of producing the images in the first instance. Copyright Agent have diligently and professionally helped us to claim back unlicensed images, allowing our photographers to make a living from their profession.

Feb 28,2024This company appeared sketchy from the start. I deleted and blocked them as I do with all other scammers. Here is the issue now.. I have received a letter from a law office. Curious if this is a new scam of theirs? I am in Canada and would like to talk with others that have experienced this. Note to Alamy: no need for you to put in your cents and I am not interested in hearing from you.
