Tax is complicated; the cycle to work scheme is not. You choose a bike, hire it for an agreed length of time, then snap it up for a fraction of its original value. It's like a year-round sale, with interest free credit available in over 2,000 retailers nationwide.
Amazing. Love cycling to work.
Superb idea, backed up with excellent service from Arragon cycles.
Swift, brilliant! got my bike within a month, and now happily riding back and from work with my brompton. Loving it!
Very easy to apply and obtain my new bike
Absolutely nothing negative to state. The whole experience is very easy and straight forward.
Simple and easy to use
The govt has removed the £1000 limit on cycles (subject to agreement with your employer). My employer is happy to raise it, and has instructed Cyclescheme of this. I posted a very frustrated review due to the poor information I was getting back from the call centre and the lack of information that could easily have been posted on the website. Cyclescheme have since contacted me and gone into some detail of the reasons behind the delay, and the hard work they are doing to navigate the complexities of the government's changes. I have since amended my review and rating. For everyone's information, I've posted it here: ============= Hi Christopher Thanks for taking the time to review us, albeit we're obviously gutted at the contents of the review and the rating. Cyclescheme wants to roll out this guidance more than anyone - but I am afraid the Government has not simply made >£1,000 schemes available. There is a very complex set of guidance that sits behind their PR announcement. We're in the midst of working through it to make sure we can turn on your employer (and you) for the scheme, but we will only do so when we're happy we can do it in a legal and compliant way. The main concern is that the way the Government has designed the scheme makes your employers status as a Credit Broker unclear and although the risks are low - as your employers trusted advisor in this space we cannot simply onboard them and throw caution to the wind - we must do this properly and in a legitimate and compliant way. As such, we're engaged with the Cycle to Work Alliance and the DfT and FCA to seek assurances that their ambiguous wording cannot in any way put your employer at risk if they start offering >£1,000 schemes. Once this is resolved (in writing) Cyclescheme ( and the rest of the cycle to work sector) will start turning on >£1,000 schemes. I am part of the team trying to resolve this and I can assure you we're doing everything in our power to resolve this (it's a 7 day a week job at the moment). The long and short of it is that it's got to be right - we cannot offer a scheme that could in any way be detrimental to you or your employer.
The initial purchase was ok but I think I got suckered in to the idea of tax savings but maybe didn't read the small print properly. So you basically "rent" the bike from them. The money comes out of your wages. After a period they send you a bill in order to be able to own the bike, or a reduced fee to be able to extend the hire period. 2 years when you've forgotten all about it they email you to say the end of use fee is "exactly" the same amount as the tax owed and if you want to keep the bike they keep this fee. Now I'm sure this would all have been in the small print but i don't recall any of it. If i had realised i would have struck a deal with the bike shop and bought direct. Less hassle and you own the bike. I would not recommend anyone to take part in this scheme until they have researched properly to know exactly what they are getting into, and then done some price comparisons of their own. Cyclescheme want to remove my review because of my fundamental misunderstanding of how the scheme works. Thats fine and I'm sure within their rights to do so. If i "fundamentally misunderstood" (as have other reviewers and my colleagues) Then this shows how unclear the scheme is/was when i signed up to it. Surely i am allowed a review of my opinion and experiences. Other readers can read all the reviews both good and bad and then make up their own minds.
Advice to cyclists: If you need your bike with any urgency (ie within a week or two) you might have to pay for it yourself. Advice to employers: this service has a lot of friction, read these reviews and factor into your partnership decision. In no other consumer services business would it be acceptable to take five days to process a payment and get you the product, especially when it is just a digital certificate. The turnaround time is a joke. The customer service agent I spoke to was nice enough, but her advice was ultimately inaccurate since I'm still waiting a week later to be able to get a new bike after mine was stolen.
Bad, unacceptable experience! I've signed up to the scheme but never benefited from it as left the employment before anything was deducted. Paid it off in full, with my own money, the cycle scheme is chasing me for the ownership fee of £77.11. So it looks like I'm supposed to paying the shop fee plus £77.11 for nothing. What's a deal! Have been emailing them for ages now, send all the proof I got. No one seems to understand, every time I've got a response from a different person, what's a nightmare!
Poor choice! Competition offers much better deals and no need to pay at the end of the hire period. Seems a rip off to pay for a bike then pay some company that stops you from making it one's own on some "government rules" ground! Sure there is a tax break for money saving but that's government driven - Cyclescheme just take a big chunk of the action. Stay clear and search alternatives! Really not worth the hassle!!
Good to start off with to spread the cost of the bike. But I have now come to the end of my cycle scheme and it's either £66. And they still keep the bike for over 3 years or £210 and it's mine if I had £210 to spare I wouldn't be spreading the cost and would of just brought the bike outright myself in the 1st place. All in all always read the fine fine fine print.
Very quick, straightforward process to register and obtain a bike, with the great benefit of spreading out the (reduced) cost over a year. Has enabled me to buy a far better bike than I would have done otherwise and has made the cycle to work a more enjoyable experience. Only problem with cycling a higher performance bike, is that it encourages you to go faster and I turn up sweaty for work! Good way to start the day though. I've got my commute down to 8 mins, if the lights are in my favour. Have recommended the cycle to work scheme to many of my colleagues.
Best thing I ever did wish I'd started cycling years ago👍👍
A great way to encourage lifestyle change, get fit and save on commuting costs It is a simple way to buy a bike with the advantage of saving tax.
Excellent service and would recommend to anyone I know
Unfortunately I don't commute to work as often as I would like due there is no where to put my cycle in a safe and under shelter...and no way would I leave a £800.00 bike out in all elements and I do lock my bike always but if a thief what's my bike no lock would stop then... It has been months since I cycled to work...I think the cycle2work scheme is a fantastic idea if you can use you purchase and be able to use it on the return journey home... And leaving it in all elements would soon destroy major parts of my cycle. Many thanks
Great scheme to get you on a decent bike at a low monthly cost.
Nice and simple way to get a bike with small payments
