Tax is complicated; the cycle to work scheme is not. You choose a bike, hire it for an agreed length of time, then snap it up for a fraction of its original value. It's like a year-round sale, with interest free credit available in over 2,000 retailers nationwide.
Cycle scheme was very easy to use and very smooth process.
I had been struggling on an old bike to commute to and from work. As there is a very steep hill between home and my place of work, I often would just use the car instead. Getting an electric bike through Cyclescheme was one of the best things I have done. The extra power the ebike gives me, means the steep ride is no longer daunting. The bike also has integrated lights, so I have managed to commute throughout the winter despite having to travel in the dark. I feel healthier and glad that I am causing less damage to the environment. I hardly notice the payment out of my salary each month.
It was OK but it was quite a lng drawn out process which at times became quite frustrating.
The overall experience of requesting and using a certificate was easy and fast. I had a few queries during my first scheme, and the responses I received were high quality and prompt. I have just signed up for my second scheme.
Good way to save money on a new bike
Over the past few years I have had several bikes from cyclescheme. Very easy to set up and take part. Things move along extremely quickly from requesting a certificate to collecting and using a bike. Great affordable way to purchase a new bike. Would honestly be lost without it .
Admin fees are too high especially when coupled to a cycle vendor who duplicates the costs; i.e £70 "own it at the end" fee and then Ribble cycles 10% admin fee for Cycle scheme. In my case the £169 admin charges really took the edge off the bargain".
It’s such a cool scheme to be in because it allows you to purchase a bike of higher spec build quality etc paying the same money for lower spec and build! Plus Coupled with options to pay over time and save on tax. ITS A NO BRAINER 5 stars all the way👌
Its a great scheme - but just not given 5 stars because: in today's age a £2k scheme would be more realistic than £1k to get a bike and equipment to last. I bought a Brompton on the scheme, that has been excellent. However, by the time I had spec'd the bike with luggage for commuting, added decent clothing, lighting and lock I was at £1600.
all good. brilliant scheme to get people out of the cars and onto bikes. Would be better if the scheme limit increased to £1500 - £2000. With increasing prices on cycling equipment you can't get decent stuff. Not for commuters doing 20+ km each way More is needed from the government though.. Maybe no VAT on cycling stuff? Based on the reply, knowing that there is an effort from cyclescheme I would give it a 5! Thank you all!
awesome. new bike, discounted price. pay over 12 months.. what more do I need?
How well this is implemented depends on your employer, for me it was pretty straight forward. Depending on the bike you want the maximum sum available via the scheme can be a bit limiting. A good quality bike can cost a lot of money... but I've been pretty happy with my choice.
Great way to motivate yourself in start cycling to work and looking after your body, mind and at the same time have fun exploring everything around you on a bike.
Very smooth process and absolutely no problems.Cyclescheme were great and the regular news and offers are good. Like someone else said, the best decision in a while. Cycling to work most days of the week and really enjoying it; even in winter!
Been with the scheme for 4 years, will keep using this... the one of the most value and useful scheme in my company's benefit list. Cycle to work, like it!!
Straightforward really , does excactly what it says it will do, good supportive communications, I have recommended to others who have also had a positive experience and i will certainly use again.
Great scheme. Am now doing a 50 mile cycle ride for homeless veterans on 30th june 18.
Was really looking forward to getting a folding electric bike and had seen the ideal one in Halfords. Being one of the biggest mainstream shops in the entire UK to sell bikes, I was really surprised (after buying my certificate) that you cant actually use it at Halfords. So your stuck with local dealers who charge an absolute fortune for bikes. You would be better off finding a scheme that works with Halfords otherwise you will just end up paying through the nose. Oh, and I'd have to check nearly 2000 shops around the country to find a good deal. Honestly, really, really poor. So you think your saving money by not paying the vat on whats an interest free loan before tax but the reality is you will pay way over the odds by having to use a local dealer. :(
Process was clear and easy, I rang them twice to ask some questions and they customer service was good too. However I end up struggling to find bike for me. They work with 5-6 online retailers but none of them had the size for that is right for me, I'm only 6,2 ft and was looking for frame size 58cm, out of all retailers I found literally 5 bikes in right size ! It was in late February so shops should be ready for Spring season but no, took me all afternoon to find a bike, in the end I had spend more. for example wiggle had no bikes bigger than 54cm- I'm giving 2 stars cause it seem like Cycle Scheme is offering certificates only, they don't care if you are able to by bike. Please check from time to time what your retailers offer.
