About us The Federation of Master Builders is the largest trade association for the UK construction industry and a not-for-profit organisation that is run by members for members.
Our mission We support small and medium-sized construction companies to grow and manage their business by providing a wide range of support services such as contract templates, unlimited expert advice, online training, and access to a community of fellow professional builders.
Our members must pass an independent inspection and strict vetting process before they join the FMB to ensure they meet the high standards expected of a Master Builder company.
We also connect clients with professional, local builders they can trust through our free Find a Builder service. Our series of ultimate guides for home renovation projects helps clients to understand what to expect during a building project.
Great experience being member with FMB.
I was a member of The Federation of Master Builders for a frustrating 11 years, and I regret every moment of it. This organization claims to offer support and opportunities for businesses, but it's nothing more than a money pit. In today's digital age, there are far better alternatives that harness algorithms to generate valuable leads and opportunities for your business. Save your hard-earned money and invest in modern solutions. The FMB's approach is old-fashioned; it's essentially buying a badge that holds no real value in the competitive business landscape. Don't make the same mistake I did. Look elsewhere for growth and success.
Regards insurance you have with drawn all insurance for disability adaptions in Northern Ireland and left our company with large problems. This has become a major problem with our customers as they are now becoming very difficult.Regards Sean
Trusted organisation, we are always telling prospective clients that we are proud members & that FMB is a safe guard to useing a reputable builder
We recently went through mediation through the FMB dispute resolution team with Tracy Dilworth, we managed to reach an agreement with the customer that the customer then defaulted on after signing. We could not be more satisfied with the dispute resolution service as it was fair and impartial but unfortunately the customer did not stick to the mediation decision and breached it after ot was agreed. Tracy Dilworth is a credit to QASS and was extremely professional, detailed and thorough this is not the ideal way one would like a contract to end up but sometimes customers like to add many additional works and areas out of the agreed contract and expect them for free when materials and labour and running companies do have costs associated. We highly recommend the FMB and QASS as fair to the customer and the Contractor. Tracy Dilworth is a great asset to the company. Thank you.
FMB is a scam. They are ALWAYS on the side of their paying members , that is your builder. That is what I was told by their mediation QRSSS staff TD. I had a rouge builder a member of FMB who was supposed to do an extension for us. Unfortunately although we did not sign a contract with this builder , we were forced to pay money on account to book a start day for the build. This builder and as soon as he received our 10,000 GBP, produced extras bill for 23,000GBP. Since he did not start the build , we argued these extras. He said half of these new extras were error on his system, and the other half added by the new subcontracted builder. This builder then accepted another more expensive build 1.5M in Mayfair and rescinded the NON signed contract and took our 10 thousand pound money on account. FMB was given all evidence but they assigned our case to QRSSS who were very rude and apart from confirming our details on the first 30m phone call, would not take any details of our dispute. Their staff TD said that we can submit what we want through email. But then she sent very hostile email stating that she wants only specific information using the same tone of the builders. I, under the freedom of information act, asked for a copy of the phone call and written emails, this reviled the soft friendly tone with the builders and the hostile aggressive tone towards us. On discussing this with FMB, we agreed that another more transparent member of QRSSS handles our file. This was rejected by LH friend of TD who was very rude and aggressive. FMB did not acknowledge my evidence and dismissed my case without investigation. I have reported this to CAB and they have now reported FMB to Trading Standards. I am also now taking my builder to small claim court with the help of CAB, as FMB are only money making machine, not for consumers organisation.
Had help with a long-running dispute. Fair, communicative, quick to respond, read documents share thoroughly, owned the issue right the way through to resolution. Faultless. Thank you
Unfortunately, we have been on the receiving end of a cowboy builder who is a member of the FMB. After contacting the dispute team, our case was passed to Tracy Dilworth at QASSS who was professional & understanding throughout. She worked hard to resolve the matter as quickly & efficiently as possible, which was sadly made extremely difficult as the builder was very difficult & uncooperative. We can’t thank Tracy enough, a credit to QASS.
We have been a member for a few years and the one thing we love about them is that they are there if we need them. As a small business your own resource is limited so having the FMB there is hugely reassuring and we hope that with us being a member means it gives our customers reassurance that our quality of work is good.
To be fair to Alison, she has really been great in regards to my membership and Trust mark renewal. It was sorted within 48 hours.
Professional team and professional service
Great service
Suzanne was friendly, proactive and efficient throughout - the whole process from my enquiry through to membership took one week. An excellent service.
Rang FMB to tell them about a problem with a 'Standard Form' I was experiencing, sorted it straightaway, brilliant job.
Do not use the FMB Mediation Service. We took our dispute with a builder to the mediation service who completely ignored the evidence we presented and found in the builder’s favour. They also encouraged the builder to counter-claim against us. We subsequently took the builder to court and the findings of the mediation were totally overturned and the counter-claim dismissed. The builder, who was awarded a Trustmark by the FMB, ignored the CCJ, absconded from their registered address and drained their bank account, so we have still not been able to obtain the money we are owed. I recommend that if you have a dispute with an FMB member you go straight to court, where a genuinely impartial mediation process is available. Also, ignore FMB and Trustmark accreditation, since the FMB ignores complaints against their members and doesn’t monitor their behaviour in any meaningful way.
The FMB have been a great resources and support for our small, family-run building company. Our membership with the FMB, along with our TrustMark gives our clients peace of mind that we are a bonafide company, and accountable to a trade association as reputable as the FMB. We have formed great rapport with our accounts manager(s), and always get answers to any questions we may have.
Certainly! Here's a positive review about being an FMB member that you can use for their Trustpilot page: "As a proud member of the Federation of Master Builders, I can confidently say that this organization has been instrumental in elevating my business to new heights. From the rigorous vetting process to the ongoing support and resources, FMB ensures that its members adhere to the highest industry standards. Being an FMB member not only instills a sense of trust and credibility among my clients, but it also gives me access to invaluable training, legal advice, and networking opportunities. I couldn't recommend FMB membership more highly to any building professionals looking to grow and maintain a reputable
Our inspection process was very straightforward.

Nov 09,2023Rather than any one particular incident I have given 5 stars to indicate the value I place on the FMB in assisting my company in setting itself apart from less professional builders. I believe annual inspections of current work to be a major factor in ensuring the public have confidence a FMB builder has been vetted for build quality and professional approach . I know when I apply for LABC on my new builds they like the fact we are affiliated to the FMB . Ditto my company insurances . I will continue to be a member .
